These are the claims against Led Zeppelin. Many people ignorantly say "they stole most of their songs" but that is simply not true. All you are doing is shilling someone else's agenda.

>"Babe I'm Gonna Leave You"
Zeppelin did nothing wrong here, they covered Joan Baez' version which had no writing credit at all so it was credited as Traditional. Unbeknownst to them it was actually written by Anne Bredon. Hint: the internet wasn't around in 1968

>"Black Mountain Side"
Uncredited and should have been credited to Jansch. No issue with this claim.

>"Bring It On Home"
The intro section was intended as a tribute rather than trying to pass it off as their own work, given that it was almost the same as the original. However it should have been credited.

>"Communication Breakdown"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Skx5qP65r2g [Embed]
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qoqQnR8NOVI [Embed]
There is similarity, probably an influence but there's no way you credit it to Cochran. Music doesn't exist in a vacuum.

>"Custard Pie"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4t59S92GpTc&nohtml5=False [Embed]
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qyI7QAnaVQQ [Embed]
I'm really not sure where Custard Pie comes from that. It's quite ludicrous really and shows the true intentions of the people who come up with this drivel.

>"Dazed And Confused"
Probably the worst of the claims, no issue with this either. Obviously taken from Holmes.

>"Hats Off To (Roy) Harper"
So now we have Custard Pie and Hats Off To (Roy) Harper, two imaginably different songs from one blues song (Shake 'Em On Down linked above) that sounds nothing like either. Ridiculous.

>"In My Time Of Dying"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=77lTCWRTy8g&nohtml5=False [Embed]
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yZgblTKscX0 [Embed]
This is Bob Dylan's version. Obviously it sounds exactly like Led Zeppelin's version!! More importantly he also credited it to traditional but of course only Zeppelin stole it!!

1/2
>>
2/2
>"The Lemon Song"
A slowed down version of Killing Floor definitely. No issue here.

>"Moby Dick"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g4EyM5r1iRI
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mRJ9_yHiNmg
Moby Dick right here folks. Such absolute drivel.

>"Nobody's Fault But Mine"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y_o4omd8T5c
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j6nCdlyuJ6g
Once again we see how much the Led Zeppelin "version" sounded exactly nothing like the "original".

>"Stairway To Heaven"
A similar chord progression for the opening lick, such plagiarism!!

>"White Summer"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CYABfZ7HMhM
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eb_bTymOAyk
This one really does sound like Jimmy's version, almost identical. No issue with this claim.

So there we have it, precisely 4 Led Zeppelin songs (2 of which were instrumental guitar pieces) were genuine rip offs out of 100+.
>>
>>63869566
The Stairway one is unarguable, Spirit were just trying to get media hype
It's a shit song though.
but then again, most of these claims (even the valid ones) come from the same pricks who claim "black people were the REAL inventors of punk rock" then just shove Death in your face
>>
>>63869717
Spirit were robbed, it's so fucking obvious.
>>
>>63869566
Boy you've been all over this board all day sucking Led Zeppelin's dick. Fuck you. They are plagiarists. Period. Even thw fuckung Beatles gave credit when they used other people's work. The pompous fucks in Zeppelin flat out stole from other artists and for that they receive Kennedy Honors. Best album they ever made was Presence when Plant shuts the fuck up. How can you possibly get behind a band that has to be drug into court to tell the truth? How? Fuck them and fuck you.
>>
Zeppelin are guilty of the following atrocious and grievous crimes against music:

1. Making entire albums out of stolen blues licks and saying OH YEAH YEAH YEAH BABY BABY OH BABY 50x a song
2. Inspiring all of the overwrought hair metal/cockrock/lighter-waving arena rock bullshit
3. Releasing singles that have been played on the radio 40x every day for the last 40+ years
4. The ultimate casual, normalfag band that back in the day appealed to normalfag white suburban teens who grew up to be accountant minivan dads that tortured their kids by forcing them to listen to dadrock on the radio as they're driving them to soccer practice
>>
>>63869839

This doesn't matter because the Led Zeppelin versions are much, much better than the originals and outright plagiarism is hilarious anyways and should make them more liked.
>>
>>63869839
>>63869882
How can one band make so many people so mad?
>>
>>63869762
no, you're just a fool

>>63869839
>>63869882
damn led zeppelin must have fucked your groupie mothers. why else could you be so mad?

>The ultimate casual, normalfag band that back in the day appealed to normalfag white suburban teens who grew up to be accountant minivan dads that tortured their kids by forcing them to listen to dadrock on the radio as they're driving them to soccer practice

I'm sorry you have issues with your father, Anon.

They exemplify the shit music of the '70s that was bombastic, pompous and arrogant. Thank god The Sex Pistols came along and put a stop to it.

They never cease to disgust me.

And look what happened after Zeppelin. Kiss, AC/DC, and Van Halen. Like those bands weren't the same breed of arena rock excess.

"The punk movement was a big wakeup call. People said 'You know what? We're tired of Led Zeppelin, we're tired of Pink Floyd, the skeleton of the Beatles.' So when grunge happened in the early Nineties, I said 'Well, congratulations America. You've finally got your own punk movement.'"

I hope they all die of stage 3 syphillis, liver failure and lung cancer. It will absolutely make my day when these lying cunts die.
>>
I wouldn't say LZ were bad, unfortunately the bands they inspired were not good. Just as the bands Nirvana inspired were not good.
>>
>>63870266
Put the music back where it belonged; back in the hands of the youth. Instead of rich old besotted pedophiles that lived in dead occultists mansions.

Thats the historical facts whether you want to deny it or not.

Yeah, they just """covered""" sooooooooooo many "obscure""" songs but """WUPPPPPS""" they accidentally dont put the credits

>Instead of rich old besotted pedophiles that lived in dead occultists mansions

Dude. Plant was like 27 when the Pistols broke.
>>
>>63870341
Even so, Nirvana ultimately killed off all the pompous 70s-80s stadium rock. That music doesn't exist anymore.
>>
>>63870346
You can cherish the Sex Pistols as your proletariat flag wavers all you want but their music was shite and there's a good reason they barely lasted a couple years at most.
>>
>>63870398
Yeah I said that the other day. All guitar music now is underground hipster kind of stuff. The Van Halen sort of rock is dead and buried.
>>
>>63870357
clever weeb
>>
>>63870374
It's funny 'cos Johnny Rotten told Plant that they were dinosaurs. It is a little funny to hear a guy who's not yet 30 called a dinosaur, but there you go.
>>
>>63870533
It's not unprecedented. Black Sabbath by the disco era were yesterday's news and they weren't yet 30 either.
>>
Page gets (Justifiably) ripped on pretty constantly, but it's interesting that people rarely seem to bring up that Blackmore and Iommi were both pretty guilty of it as well.

>>
Honestly, who the fuck cares?

If they sound good, and they aren't robbing your paychecks, why do you give a damn? If you like their music, then listen. Stop bitching about every single thing that takes place.
>>
music can only be created out of other music.

you don't stick a musical genius in an empty room and wait for him to turn out masterpieces - inspiration doesn't work that way. you flex against other people's ideas, and use them as building blocks for your own music.

Louis Armstrong quoted a bit of Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue during his solo on his cover of Ain't Misbehavin' - but I'm postivie Gershwin didn't get a cent in royalties because he wasn't being covered, but referenced. so many jazz solos are so subtle in how they treat what they're referencing that you'd have to know what they're quoting intimately to get it - a viable workaround in an ailing artform

meanwhile blues usages are even more prone to mixing and matching dozens of stock phases in slight variations. nobody owns the tradition - it's like the commons: it belongs to everybody. once you have copyright assholes trying to claim nobody can say "I believe I'll dust my broom" again without paying the estate of Robert Johnson some money is a case where they're trying to claim to have invented something older than they are and say it belongs to just them. nobody invented those phases - they were just "there" even when Charlie Patton was around

that said, if Led Zeppelin were covering a song, they should have claimed it was a cover instead of pretending they created it. the funny part comes in that black blues guys could have named it in a second, while LZ's audience were being introduced to the blues in a big way by them, so they had no basis for tracing the lineage back to the source

sampling is a different thing altogether, but I think if people can't afford the rights to what they want to play around with, they should just make it with no expectation of getting any money, and just release what they made into the internet so people can hear it

music would be so much greater if people didn't have to be terrified of being called a fucking thief every time they get inspired by someone else's music.

Interesting interview. Thanks for posting. At least he's honest about it.
>>
>>63870633
Then just provide the proper credits ffs and there's rarely any problem it's not like musicians walk around being terrified of stepping on other peoples' toes all the time. Besides there's a difference between being inspired by somebody and straight up snagging pieces of their songs.
>>
>>63870743
how the fuck is not providing credits your problem? Did they steal from your father? from you? no right, then stop. ffs you people will bitch about absolutely everything that doesnt concern you.
>>
>>63870976
When someone takes music from someone else and tries to pass it off as their own it absolutely does concern them. How do you not understand this?

Here's couple more ones than Blackmore "borrowed" (Though unlike Page, Blackmore and/or Lord was always pretty transparent about it).

Though both of them ripped this off some classical piece, the name I can't remember at the moment

>it absolutely does concern them.
Yes it does, but THEY are not YOU. Why are you bitching about this? the blues' singers that zeppelin stole from are probably dead by now, nobody cares. stop bitching about everything is my point. If they didnt care to raise their voice at that time, why are you concerned now? Its not your music they stole
>>
>>63870976
What a shit strawman argument that is. What's up? You've been backed into a corner and got nothing logical left to use as a refutation.

So much for stopping the ignorance.

Well that's kind of a silly point to make.
>But it's not happening to you though!
I know right, why would I ever care about anything that happens to anyone else as long as it's not happening to me?

Also
>If they didnt care to raise their voice at that time, why are you concerned now?
That did happen, actually. Led Zeppelin got sued over that kind of thing a few times if I remember correctly.
>>
Plagiarism aside, they were still a pretty good fucking band.
>>
>>63871356
>Led Zeppelin got sued over that kind of thing a few times if I remember correctly.
A few times. Their name comes a lot in the "cases" section.

If every Led Zeppelin fan were to never exist, the Earth would be a much better place.

What a disgusting sound they emanated.
>>
why are all the people in this thread ignoring OP's post?
>>
>>63871138
you're dumb as fuck dude is this bait?

it's the principle of the issue. they're stealing work and trying to pass it off as their own. i was under the impression that it was theirs until this was exposed.

like on kid a, i thought the synth riff on idioteque was their own work, but then i looked at the liner notes and realized it was a sample. that's how it should be, because it would be deceptive to not let me realize that, regardless of whether the original creator wanted royalties.

it's a question of artistic integrity
