Why do teenagers and people try to romanticize Kurt Cobain? The guy was a bi-polar heroin addict not a saint. "lol i'm just like kurt cobain he's so relatable churt chobaim is my spirtit animl."
>>
>>63835561
Because he made bretty good music.

But yeah I agree he wasn't much of a role model tbqh.
>>
>>63835561
just watch chris ott explain it
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EpFPuS1o9d0
>>
>>63835561
Because he appealed to the angsty, forgotten, depressed kids who felt like all the people on tv were squeaky clean and happy all the time. That along with the energy of their music that resonated with the fans. It doesn't take a genius, OP.

g idk I can't figure it out!

THIS
>>
>>63835581
I posted this today.
>>
>>63835561
>The guy was a bi-polar heroin addict not a saint.
I don't think anyone thinks he was a saint at all, I think even the teenagers know that he was a human being with some pretty big faults, and I think that is why he is so relatable in the first place. Unlike other artists of the same type, he didn't try to glamorize his faults like punk artists did, and didn't really try to hide them either.
>>
>>63836176
yeah well you're not chris ott so eat a dick
>>
>>63835561
>bi-polar
Is that supposed to make me think less of him, or anyone?
>heroin addict
Oh boohoo, I bet you wouldn't cut off your mother if she started shooting up
>>
>>63835581
been so long that I saw a Shallow Rewards video posted here that I forgot Chris Ott existed, he's such a self important prick
>>
>>63836195
Shut up newfag.

I've known the shit he's talked about in this vid before he made it. All the books written about the man are shit.
>>
>>63835561
Which kanye west album is this?
>>
>>63836302
>All the books written about the man are shit
lol

>>63835561
1 He was not bipolar
2 agreed he's should not be a role model..
... Same as Keith Richards, Ozzy Osbourne, Sid Vicious, Jim Morisson, Jimi Hendrix, Trent Reznor, Amy Winehouse, Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, Brian Jones, Lou Reed, Johnny Thunders........
>>
He was a great artist but his "tortured soul" aura, pretty-but-sad face demeanor, and his knows no bounds edginess make him easy for emotional high schoolers to "relate" to. Which explains a lot really.

Also he played punk rawwk and gave the middle finger to the corporate establishment which makes him more real than those other posers like Pearl Jam maaaannnn
>>
>>63836216
Those aren't good reasons to think lesser of him as a person, but they are damn good reasons to not idolize somebody. There's a difference.
>>
>>63836302
>newfag
>only_newfags_say_newfag.js
>>
>>63836679
OPs post uses people relating to him as the only example though
>>
>>63836626
I don't think teenagers these days even know who Pearl Jam is. Not saying it in the normal internet old grump way, just saying.
>>
>>63836687
>being this much of a newfag
>not ".ccp"
>>>/leddit/
>>
>>63836782
Why would you think that?
>>
>>63836813
because the social consciousness has a short term memory and there really is no reason for them to remember them unless they are really into 90s music.
>>
Reminder that people thought he was a loser when he died. He's remembered like he is because he died.
>>
>>63836543
>He was not bipolar
Yeah, he most definitely was
>>
>>63836071
We're talking about Kurt Cobain, anon.
>>
>>63836991
Depressed, not bipolar.
>>
>>63837112
That makes sense, since I was talking about Kurt Cobain.
>>
>>63836957
Factually incorrect

>>63836276
yeah he is pretty fucking important now that you mention it. unlike you, worthless slime.
>>
>>63837134
It's not even like people make this "he was bipolar" claim posthumously. He was actually diagnosed with it when he was still alive.
>>
>>63836626
I don't think he was really "edgy", because I think Kurt was just honest with his music. "edgy" to me usually means it's forced or dishonest a la Linkin Park
>>
>>63837375
He was kind of edgy, but not in an attention-seeking way. It was more out of spite for the mentality of where he grew up.

>>63837375
ok it was not as trite as pure shock rocking, but c'mon kurt cobain was an edgelord
>>
>>63837505
yeah he also broke up with a long time gf because she was an sjw-tier feminist cause she did not accept that he wanted to raise a child in a traditional mom and father household like he never got to have while he was growing up. that seems pretty sincere and anti-edgy
>>
>>63837189
Pearl Jam was the cool thing when he died. Kobain was considered a whiner
>>
>>63835581
What the fuck is he trying to say here?
Kurt Cobain is a junkie then Pearl Jam is for girls?
>>
>>63835561
>>63835580
Boy I hope you guys don't listen to many artists. I think you'd get a shock about how many of them are or have been hunky degenerates at some point in their life.

>Caring about the musicians lifestyle over their music.
To quote the dark ages of internet humour, ur doing it wrong.
>>
>>63837638
That's nice but 1) Nirvana was the biggest rock band in the world at the time of his death and 2) you must not have been alive to see the crowd of mourning people around his house, with Courtney giving a tear-filled eulogy
>>
>>63837684
Kurt was not a god or an idol. He was an edgy kid that grew up in a redneck Washington family.

The rest of the grunge "bro rock" like Pearl Jam was total shit for girls.
>>
>>63837777
I can confirm this. My sister likes Pearl Jam.
>>
>>63837714
>you must not have been alive to see the crowd of mourning people around his house, with Courtney giving a tear-filled eulogy
because he died you fucking retard
>>

lol

The best part of this video is where Chris talks about junkies needing to have a secret.

you should really read Infinite Jest

Explain.

Kurt Cobain won in the end. He wanted to kill off the big, loud, stupid hairspray arena rock, the KISSes and Van Halens of the world, and he succeeded. Twenty-two years after he bit the farm, mainstream rock no longer exists, it's retreated back to the club/indie level just the way he liked it.
>>
>>63838004
>>63838004
it talks a lot about addiction on every scale (and there are very extreme depictions of addiction in it). how one of the chief thrills of is due to the fact that it provides someone a secret alone spot where they can indulge and it's more about having the secret escape from the world than the high. like how obsessive someone gets waiting for their dealer, or the whole 'this is my last time and then i quit' complex. another quote- "you spend all your time sober wanting to be high, but all your time high wanting to get sober"

basically what chris ott closes out that video with- "the sense of comfort that secrecy and addiction provides people who have never had a source of emotional comfort in their live turns people into junkies who spin lies to keep it going"
>>
>>63838178
I see, so that's the whole angle it was getting at.
>>
>>63835561
He really is relatable.
>>
>>63837858
If you do music then yes.
>>
>>63838654
Nah.
>>
>>63835581
Interesting. The part about drug use being a "secret comfort" really hits home.
>>
>>63835561
I find him pretty easy to relate to. We both like heroin, for example.
>>
>>63835581
This is a great video, more people should watch it if only for the addiction being a secret bit.
>>
>>63839135
You can make it anon!

He wasn't that good.
>>
>>63837505
It was the 90s, there was a huge backlash against homophobia and racism, especially in certain music cultures where it used to be the norm. You have to consider the times, also just saying you don't like homophobes isn't even edgy.

Meaning that people were getting tired of the Kiss/Motley Crue school of misogyny in rock.
