Although I do agree that it isn't experimental for Sunn at all, every song is great and they all flow together very well. Just a very solid record coming from the gods of drone, and I find myself very attentive and interested all the way through whenever I listen to it, so I guess when drone is able to do that it's considered a win lol. But I mean it's also short as fuck (30 somthin mins) so that probably contributes

It definitely is. There are some absolute fucking tunes on there. Ritual and their cover of Here Comes The Sun were how I was introduced to them. Love the retro sound. Infest. was also really good. Meliora felt a bit too generic and censored for mass audiences but was still good nonetheless. Can't complain about it with a track like Spirit or Zenith.

Not bait at all, I'm a big Deafheaven fan. NB is as good as Sunbather, I would argue, and I have not heard many albums that match their works in recent years in terms of innovation, and sheer metal brutality. If you listen to any of the great albums of metal history, they are all unique and all push the boundaries of what metal was in that period. It seems to me that Deafheaven is one of the only bands who are doing that in this period. If you can prove me otherwise, I'd be glad to hear any albums that come close to their material.

Mate I saw Gorguts last week and they played their whole unreleased album. I'm a metal fan. Two of my favorite records are None So Vile and Obscura. If there wasn't hype for Deafheaven on pitchfork or whatever I think they would be much more popular with actual metal fans than they are. The only difference is that I only care about the music than the fashion.

That's my point. They dislike Deafheaven because they're the one modern metal band indie fans and Pitchfork readers have decided is any good. It's a stupid reason, but I understand it.
Kayo Dot's Hubardo is their magnum opus and covers so much more ground musically than any metal album I've heard from this decade, so that's another album with a 'classic' feel. Even just within atmoblack you have Teethed Glory and Injury.
Again Deafheaven are fine and I love all three of their albums, just stop perpetuating this meme that they're the only band pushing metal forward.
