>>
What was said?
>>
>>63834125
Oh god, what have we done to this sweet, fragile, troubled and creative man.
>>
>>63834211
Yeah, it's real. He's been posting over at collected animals for a few days in preparation for the album release. it's been cool to see him, but it's also meant that he's been seeing the way people talk about him, which is kind of sad
>>
what's the meme?

give her the deak or whatever?
>>
deak needs to learn to take a joke

considering he ran a kickstarter scam, i figured he was a little less sensitive than this
>>
>>63834236
desu its probably less one thing that was said, and more the years of relentless memeing

also people have been just shitting on avey panda and geo for PW, calling sleep cycle way better. which honestly it probably is, considering PW was pretty weak, but still, imagine seeing people make really harsh jokes about your best friends in a large online community
>>
>>63834246
I think the meme went like this:

**ahem**

>"stop """""deaking""""" (the meme part) about"
>>
Update, he says he isn't personally hurt, just surprised at how people talk. Guess he hasn't been here very often....
>>

Ok.

Wow. I have friends. Best friends. That's so cool lets go make music best friends! There's nothing I wanna do more.

This is how I feel about a lot of people on here. It's really sad to see people insult each other over difference of opinion in art.
>>
There are bad people in the world Deak.

Morality is not a meme.
>>
lol maybe some people just don't like to feel that they are being stolen from and have to wait 6 years for mediocrity
nothing really "horrifying" about it
>>
>>63834577

It may shock you to know that most people are not aware of/do not care what happens on 4chan.
>>
>>63834577
After 2007 he lived in Africa for two years.

Then from 2010 to 2012 he worked on ODDSAC and Centipede Hz, and was on tour for two more years.

And then at least since 2015 he was working on finishing the album.

When you actually do things with your life you don't have time for dank memes.

Deak, all the memes and jokes are just banter and shit. No here truly wishes the demise of the other band members. If anything, this album has completely shown how talented and wonderful you are and destroyed all negative memes if you.

>>63834778

>>
>>63834646
Yeah. It's hard to tell if it's just the amount of people here making it a mean hivemind kind of thing or if it's just something about 4chan that enables the brashest, crudest voices to get the most attention thus corrupting the userbase. Either way, I rarely come here anymore (4chan in general), but I'm glad I did today, otherwise I wouldn'tve found this golden little gem. No one else seems to be talking about it right now.
>>

>>
>>63834805
Deak is actually a nice guy with good taste unlike frogman.

>>
>>63834802
Yeah, I only come here for a select few threads and they're usually generals or threads for specific artists. /ae/ is usually nice and comfy.
>>
>>63834802
There are a lot of solid people here, but it's easy to focus on the one guy that rips your comment to shreds and shits on it, than it is to remember that there were 3 other people who posted similar sentiments or responded to you, and 40 people that saw it and said nothing.

It's like an asshole in traffic. Easy to see something like that and think "people are awful"

But really, for that one dickhead, there were 50 other people obeying the laws and waiting their fucking turn and using their damn blinker.

4chan's the same thing.
>>

Finally giving it a listen. Pretty fucking blown away considering how much we always joked about him ruining CHz.
>>
>>63844178
That was mostly Geo and Avey who ruined it.

PW's problem was Geo and Panda. Bring back Deakin, boot Geo imo.
>>
>>63844207
Have you not learned anything today!! Spread love not hate. Posts like this break our Savior's (Deakin) heart
>>
>>63844272
But I was implying something positive, anon! If Geo gets booted he'll prob put out his own GOAT release and will have his time in the sun like Deakin is now. Then - all of them having put out a solo masterpiece - they can finally join back together as a four piece and release their magnum opus.
>>
>>63844358
When you put it like that it's ok, although in all honesty I have my doubts about Geo, his song for the Keep EP was pretty weak. I almost feel like Geo and Panda should do an electronic sample based album while Avey and Deak do a freak folk album. Idk which would be better, I'm leaning towards A+D
>>
>>63844590
Yeah, you may be right, but Stretching Songs for Spring was fantastic! I could image Panda singing in place of the female vocalist. I think it'd work. Honestly though, I'm a bit reticent to split up Avey and Panda. Even after PW being a relative disappointment, breaking up the dream team/GOAT bromance would make me sad.
>>
>>63844667
I see that, also Panda Bear is still good acoustic so I guess he could work with Avey and Deak, I'd just be worried about him and Avey overshadowing Deakin like they did on Campfire Songs. Deakin's almost too nice for group projects it seems like, he would be afraid to step on anyone's toes and make a suggestion
>>
>>63844731
I think the three of them could do something totally insane and freaky together. I can imagine Deak and Panda sort of harmonizing together (imo their vocals would match up well - picture Deak singing Vashti's part in the song prospect Hummer with Panda on bg vocals) and then you could just have Avey kinda wailing and going nuts in the background. Would be nuts.

Or the three of them could just all sing together like they did at the Other Music live set in 2004. They'd just have to have Deakin more prominent in the mix as he did get a little lost.
>>
>>63844909
Actually, I just remembered that Noah and Josh's voices DO sound sublime together. The two of them did that show as Noah's Arc in Japan while Dave was sick one night. One of my fav bootlegs/live shows.
>>
>>63844909
Hmmm... I guess. Maybe I prefer Deakin on his own actually. I feel like him and Noah would blend too much despite their differences. Maybe the optimal pairings PB + G and PB + AT and D doing solo stuff. I really think Deakin could do just as well on his own as the other guys he would just have to spend a little more time mastering and stuff because he is one person rather than 2.

I don't think that's the case at all. The "problem" really. Most of us have opinions and positions that someone will find offensive (or at least pretend to), and many of us are articulate enough to share those positions in a manner that's sure to communicate their offense effectively.

>>
>>63845525
>are you defending people like this:
You know I'm not.

I'm not a huge AC or Deak fan, but from what I can glean from the public image, he isn't a child that's going to have his feelings hurt by a few anonymous randos calling his buddies faggots. The reasoned, specifically cited and deep cutting criticisms of his buddies' shittiest output, combined with well articulated personal insults are what would do so. A lot of us assholes here are really good at being assholes.
>>
>>63845985
fair enough, I misunderstood your intent.
>>
While the other members of the band released overcompressed albums with every eq turned all the way up, Based Deak took time to carefully craft an album, with dynamics and a variety of textures that haven't been explored by AnCo since Fall Be Kind . he took is on a journey through old AnCo eras like Strawberry Jam, HCTI and Feels
>>
>>63839011
I mean, it's not a surprise. People around here don't act "normal." Words like "nigger" and "fag" are thrown around like they're nothing. People here are used to it; one gets used to shit like that fairly fast. But for others, just the fact that at any point in time, cp can be posted on a board just a click away is enough to make them never want to go here -- understandably so, of course.

What IS the general Deakin meme? That he's the least integral member of Animal Collective? I don't really get it. Of the albums that he's been on, I feel like his contributions were pretty good.

You're dense dude. He's clearly known he's been the butt of a meme for years. He said so. It's not like he just found this out man.

What he did find out though is that people are shit talking his best friends and their music because they can't communicate in a positive way. That's literally the entire problem with 4chan and its what draws kids like you to it, and draws people to call anyone with any semblance of proper speech and logical discussion a "faggot" or "reddit" or "autistic".

Eh, it's pretty mediocre my man.

>Eh, it's pretty mediocre my man.
To you maybe, but you can't deny Deak is on a good direction with this EP.
>>
>>63849276
Good direction does not equal good album. It has potential but a lot of the songs don't really go anywhere. Golden Chords is an amazing song, I will give him that. But the next 9 are pretty god damn mediocre. Footy has kind of a Beatles vibe to it, I think it's the vocals, which is cool. But aside from that, for waiting years and years for this album it's really nothing special.

Honestly, Painting With is better in my opinion. It's more innovative, the songs are structured better, the instrumentation is a lot more interesting, and it has solid themes. I'll probably have to listen to Sleep Cycle a lot more to get a full opinion on it. But as it stands right now, it's pretty mediocre. People are already calling it Album of the Year and it's far from that, seriously. You guys are just saying that because it's 1) Deakin and 2) you've been waiting for it for years. Your excitement is blinding your judgement.

I would really like him to apply some of these techniques and ideas to another Animal Collective album. This definitely sounds like 1/4th of Animal Collective. It's not a terrible album by any means, but it's certainly not living up to the hype. Good job Deakin, it's somewhat interesting, but it's by no means great or amazing or Album of the Year. I can appreciate your songwriting, wish there was more like Golden Chords because that shit IS amazing. But the rest is fairly bland. Hell, even Wide Eyed was better and that was one of the weakest songs on CHz.

>>63849249
>you who shit on PW because they want more of the same shit.
I actually own PW and enjoy listening to it. True, I think it doesn't have anything on their earlier stuff, but I still think it's got some amazing tracks.
Deak's EP is not just harking back to earlier AnCo: it's a breath of fresh air, it's straight from Deak's heart, it is undeniably Deak as opposed to AnCo. The first track alone shows this.

Fucking. Dropped.
>>
>>63834778
Goddamn, what a swell dude. Way he writes really makes me smile for some reason.
>>
>>63849337
The first track is about the only great track on here. Hell, even Good House back in the day sounded better than the version on the EP. His singing has gotten better but the instrumentation and progression of the song are soooo bland now. It's like he's relying very heavily on bleeps and bloops and ambient sounds for this album.

I really want to like this album, but it just feels so bland to me. If it was an album full of songs like Golden Chords it would be 8/10 at least but as I see it it's a 5/10. Third time listening now, maybe it will grow on me more after a fourth or fifth listen.

Also, I'm basing this judgement off a really poor quality leak. So, maybe that's not exactly fair. However I knew immediately after hearing the Painting With leak it would be one of my favorite AnCo albums. Still, nothing tops Campfire Songs in my book. Painting With is above or at least on par with MPP to me, and that's also in my top 3.
>>
>>63849385
I don't give a fuck if I'm "dropped" or not. Everything I said is fucking true. You're delusional. Footy's vocal tracking sounds like something out of George Harrison song.

Great discussion we're having here though. You can't bring up any retorts so you resort to "fucking dropped". Great discussion man.

I disagree in some ways. Painting With even though some of the songs are good. Most of it is filler till you get to Floridada, Hocus Pocus, and Golden Gal which are the biggest highlights on that album. Comparatively I feel all together even with the intermission tracks it feels the album has a better identity and fits into a mold better then Painting With. Now, I'm waiting on judgement until we get the legit rip instead of the cassette rip we have currently. Also Painting With has a problem in which that none of the instrumentation sounds interesting like this album or even older Anco releases. I guess I'm a snicker for that since I prefer the more early-mid Anco with traditional instruments, samples, and electronic background. Which Deak has accomplish very well into this album. I'm a fan of the wooshy/watery percussion in Just Am and the very atmospheric/comfy atmosphere it pronounces. Shadow Mine is the my least favorite song on the album, but it is just an intermission song and gives character to the next tracks after it. To be honest Golden Chord isn't my favorite track. That goes to either Good House or Footy.

Also in Painting With I don't even like half of the tracks on it. But then again it has to do with the very overtly high compression that is going on in it. Although I was never a fan of post-MPP Anco.

the only thing that is scary about this place is the amount of hive mind bitches

Explanation? Is it just because of that "deakin is anco's bitch" meme, or has something new happened?

Here's some context on what my tastes on Anco albums are at the current moment.
Strawberry Jams > Feels > Spirit They're Gone, Spirit They've Vanished > Person Pitch = Sleep Cycle > Sung Tongs > Here Comes The Indian > Merriweather Post Pavilion > Campfire Songs > Tomboy > Painting With > Panda Bear Meets the Grim Reaper > Centipede Hz > Danse Manatee.

Yeah, especially on such a normie board as /mu/. I usually try to contribute to the discussion constructively and make good posts, but I must admit that from time to time I post some really stupid and hateful shit just to vent out all my pent up stress and anger. The fact that people here don't take their shit too seriously and can post what ever they feel like is a positive side in that regard IMO too.

>Also that /b/ isn't the only board here
/b/ doesn't talk about animal collections though, deakin is def talking about good ol muffins
>>
>>63849547
Oh yeah, many of Anco's album switch like crazy if I feel they get better by age. Like if you see. I prefer Anco albums that have traditional instrumentation with some electronic experimentation. Where as my least favorites are either ones that go too far into the experimental field like Danse Manatee or they are too electronic or poppy. Oh yeah, the only reason why Campfire Songs is really low is because it's probably the only Anco album I have listened to the least. And I want to revisit it in the future.

I guess those are all good points and represent your opinion, I just dont feel the same way. Deakins singing on a lot of these tracks is forced and strained, it relies very heavily on looping and rudimentary melodies, usually the lead melody playing up a simple major scale or something, and the songs really dont engage me in any way what so ever other than him shouting lyrics into my ears. Golden chords is so nice because his singing is controlled and the chord progression does just that, progresses. His strong suit is definitely.his guitar playing so it was a bit jarring to find 80 percent of this EP relied very heavily on electronics and looping it seemed. Like I said I want to like it, but Golden Chords is about the only thing I see myself revisiting. The other songs just dont transition very well.

Also to say everything else on painting with is filler is an absolute joke my man. Hocus Pocus, Vertical, Lying in the Grass, Burglars, Natural Selection, pretty much all the way through is engaging and the melodies and refreshing and dofferent from anything else animal collective have done. The biggest gripe it seems people have is that it IS so different but for some reason people think theybwere trying to achieve the same success with MPP by making something "similar". The truth is anco doesnt care about that they just wanna play jams they enjoy and if you dig it thats a plus for them.

Painting With is so great imo b3cause it audibly visualizes the ideas of cubism and dadaism. Its like paint being splatter on canvas or collages of imagery placed together while paint blocks and simple shapes fall into place from all different directions. People take it at face value when theres more too it than cool sounds and atmosphere.

For me, I did not take any of that into consideration while listening to the album. I did not get this imagery of cubism or dadaism, because the album simply isn't angular/spiritual in a sense. If I wanted that type of feeling in an album I'll get Slint or Flaming Lips instead thank you very much.

But that is your opinion so I can't really fault you on liking Painting With more then me. Where as I like Sleep Cycle more. Also I still can't get over the ahhhs and uhhhs in Painting With. They do that shit farrrrr too much.
