That's a very interesting and apt perspective. That particular album was my intro to KC back in the 70's when I was in high school. Of course back then the "fagot" reference was totally over my head. I guess if it's not to your liking, then don't support it in any fashion. I can respect that.

I had the understanding that in the UK, apparently a "faggot" is a particularly nasty kind of meatball, made with the least edible part of the pig or something like that. Hence "health food faggot" was meant as an oxymoron. If you think about it in the context of the line that follows ("bartered bride"), that actually makes perfect sense.
I believe it's been said the lyrics were written after Mr Palmer-James visited The Vatican while in Rome with the band, and was disappointed with the level of commercialism there.
Now, if you want to accuse someone of being a homophobe there's a bit of Rick Wakeman from the GFTO sessions where he refers to Jon Anderson as a "poof". Presumably, it's a joke, and presumably he's not sober (I believe he has a beer stein close at hand), but there it is nonetheless.

A faggot is a British meatball made up of pork and liver and (usually) served with mushy peas.
It isn't generally regarded as haute cuisine in the UK; it's seen as a common, perhaps slightly unhealthy dish.
It's up there with fish and chips and pie and mash.

That's why I listen to the music and not so much the words.
As for King Crimson....I tried to like them because I love John Wetton, but they were just a bit too much for me. I've always thought they were overrated, but that's just me. Music is subjective, and to each his own.

Faggot as a term of derision is an Americanism. The British would have used words line Gay / Queer / Poof at this period in time.

My mum used to call me a lazy faggot when she got mad at me when I was about 10. I looked it up and found it was defined as a "bundle of sticks." I asked my mum why was she calling me a bundle of sticks because how could sticks be lazy? This of course made her even angrier because she thought I was teasing her.
