So I'm learning Italian and my teacher thinks it would help me if I listened to some italian music.
The problem is a lot of Italian music is total shit (Ligabue, Gianna Nannini, bland europop) and so I don't fancy it.
Do you guys know of any good italian music (with lyrics) that could help?
I like: Soul, Rhythm and Blues, Blues (pre war, chess, not clapton), Rock and Roll, Folk, Country (old country), Jazz, general "roots music" and the like.
Please help, kids

check out this album, though the singer is not a native italian speaker I understand he's fluent because he used to be married to an italian woman (though I can't say for certain since I don't speak the language)

Also, Lucio Dalla; listen to "Come è profondo il mare" which is considered to be a masterpiece, also check his self-titled album, Lucio Dalla.
You can also check Lucio Battisti, listen to "Emozioni" first and then make your way up from there.
In addition to them, check Mina's discography (I love her) and Adriano Celentano's "Il Ragazzo della Via Gluck" (the album, not the song).
Another artist I really like is Francesco De Gregori, he's mostly-known for his obscure lyrics, listen to these albums from him: "Alice non lo sa", "Francesco De Gregori", "Rimmel".
Also, don't forget to check Claudio Baglioni's "Questo piccolo grande amore".
Lastly, check these artists: Paolo Conte (amazing, jazz-influenced, known internationally), Pino Daniele (great artist from Naples, has a blues flavour).

> Emozioni
> Not Amore o non amore or Anima latina

Not true, communism has been part of their heritage and they never denied that, they even admitted that. The fact that they distanced themselves from that worldview in a later phase of their careers/lives doesn't mean they never sympathized for such views.

Emozioni is more accessible and contains a few more tunes, that's the perfect starting point
