Will rock ever return back to the mainstream?
Today its mainly hip-hop, synthetic music and pop.. could it ever return back to real rock?
could another beatles, elvis, hendrix, cobain, tupac/biggie smalls rise?

It will only become popular if the creative/innovative musicians are making rock music, which at the moment they aren't. Hard to say it'll never come back though.

the reason those bands were so well known is because they were rather innovative at the time
and although there is still much to do in music, innovation is harder and harder when more new ideas are explored
