In Retrospect, was this the most influential Hip Hop album of the new millennium?
>>63820424
probably
>>63820424

Yeah, I'd say so. Pretty much ever major rapper in the game today owes some of their success to it.
College Dropout led to the possibly of 808s even happening, so no.
>>63820458
get off of this board disgusting fucking pig
>>63820424
Yes.
Kanye influenced Drake who has influenced 75% of Hip Hop this decade so yes.
>>63820424
Probably Flockaveli
>>63820586
That's a really overblown estimate. Who's really attempted Drakes style? He's never even used auto tune which is the number 1 thing in rap right now
>>63820615
>He's never even used auto tune which is the number 1 thing in rap right now
That's another point in 808s column though. T-Pain used it first, obviously, but 808s turned it into something more than a gimmick.
Kanye was never influential...
>>63820737
I'd agree with that, but at the same time 808s is only an extension of what College Dropout initiated. CD was the genesis of what we ultimately see today.
>>63820424
yeah, it spawned the shittiest wave of hip hop music thus far
luckily that time period is over, Id gladly take trap rap over autotuned hip hop with 808 beats
>>63820796
Sure, but 808s had the most direct influence on todays rap. Like, CD set the groundwork for it all, obviously, but the stylistic and thematic influences of 808s on today's rap scene are omnipresent.
>>63820834
But influencing today's rap =/= equal the most influential album of the millienium. College Dropout has already set its influence in stone and was a direct precursor of 808s. We have yet to see if this generation's trends stand on their own.
>>63820615
Drake has never used auto tune? Lol, listen to his first album and get back to me.
Artists who've tried Drake's style: Basically every Rap artist from Toronto including Tory Lanez.
Also, everyone's claiming College Dropout was the "direct" precursor to 808s; no, not even close! Stylistically, lyrically, not even the production could be referred to as having direct influence. The closest Kanye album to having a direct influence on 808s was Graduation, particularly the songs "Flashing Lights" and " Drunk & Hot Girls". Suggesting that CD was the biggest influence is reaching at a top shelf level, especially when Late Registration exists.

Yes, and buying slaves from other continents lead to the possibility of there being College Dropout.
Get your head out of your ass
no this was
>>63821020 wins this thread!
Bulletproof was more influential than any Kanye album
>>63820986
College Dropout paved the way for there to even be a hip hop album outside of the mould. It was a ground breaking album. It changed the look and direction of rap. 808s only influenced a specific pocket in this decade, which has yet to be tested beyond its popularity. We're not only talking about the 10s, we're talking about the past 16 years.
>>63821020
this
the turnover of a new leaf
>>63820458
I like how the 50's change to 20's
Imo this is not a hip hop album and it is not good and it is still the most influential hip hop album of the new millennium.
>>63821020
why?
>>63821020
If you're talking about most influential in meme rap this doesn't even come close to PIC related
>>63820424
Carter III
>>63823347
>it is not good
>>63820458
Agreed
>>63820424
808's was super ahead of its time, you can hear it in a lot of this new alt r&b that's been coming out over the last 2-3 years.
