fuck yes, they're my 14th most played artist. if you like them also check out hexvessel's first two albums. also check out in gowan ring - hazel steps through a weathered home and loreena mckennitt - caravanserai. that last one is sorta more for your first request. not that LM is proggy psych folk but she may hit some of the same buttons.

Medulla and Biophilia are hella underrated
Go Biophilia if you want a little bit more weirdness but mostly just more impeccable songwriting and some of the same quiet detailed stuff Vepsertine is so good at, and go Medulla if you want to hear the spirits of the Earth sing the songs of the human race for an hour and also a lot of really good pop songs
Deerhunter/AoA/Feels are all good too but I don't have any good recs based on those. Maybe Olivia Tremor Control or Apples In Stereo if you want some fuzzy psych pop

Also I don't know what to recommend you so I'll just say I've been obsessed with big up's eighteen hours of static lately, it's noise punk and math rock with maybe a bit of post-hardcore thrown in, super heavy bass tone, Fugazi inspired, etc. If any of that sounds interesting I suggest you give it a go

I need to give a lot of post-hardcore music another shot to be honest. I listened to Unwound and Fugazi and liked a lot of elements but I found myself sticking with At The Drive In over the other two because the energy and emotion in the music was a lot more obvious, I guess.

I'm from El Paso so At The Drive-In is extremely close to my heart, definitely not a bad choice
You might enjoy Dance Gavin Dance's Happiness, it's a nice even mix of post-hardcore, math rock, and funk rock. The vocals might put you off initially like it did with me, but a few years later I consider it a GOAT album

I've only listened to their first three myself (plus MERZXIU but that was just out of pure curiosity) but personally for me it goes A Promise = Fabulous Muscles > Knife Play although I think that one will grow on me a lot as I listen to it more.
Knife Play is a lot like the more abrasive/upbeat parts off of A Promise, like Apistat Commander but with more of the loud noisy part. Fabulous Muscles gives off the appearance of being poppier and upbeat and the production is certainly a lot more accessible but lyrically it's still insanely dark, at times it might even be more than the other two. Mike is a horrifyingly sad song.
