Gnip Gnop would have been the second best song on Painting With
>>
>>63812355
It's sounds more related to Floridada than any of the rest of the songs on the album - I think it would have helped having it on PW so it didn't feel so out of place stylistically.
>>
>>63812387
I wish the album was more like Floridada desu, that track sounded like a nice mix of SJ, Sung Tongs and MPP in a way
>>
it's ok, but along with Painting With, it just pales in comparison to everything else in their discography

i listened to HCTI yesterday and couldn't believe the same band made Painting With

Favorite lines on PW?

For me it's probably a tie between when he goes
>The green mountain south or

And
>Golden Gal gave me my strength
>She said I’ll be here for you later, boy
>Now run along you have to fall

>>
>>63813391
Hounds of Bairro is nearly identical to all the other PBear PW tracks and Gnip Gnop is alright but goes nowhere, no interesting progression whatsoever.

It sounds like AnCo on autopilot. At least on CHz it seemed like the problem was them trying to do too much - this era is super half-baked in terms of songwriting.
>>
>>63813035
Crimson is great yeah
>>
>>63813366
they're outtakes that were included with the deluxe version of their album, they're not trying to "make people forget about their shit album"
>>
>>63812292
as a pretty big long time fan of animal collective, i hate this shit too. it's been one of their biggest downfalls. completely uncreative
>>
>>63814023
gee wonder why they released them as b-sides? what a fucking mystery
>>
>>63814939
Yeah, but the actual album isn't much better. Plus b-sides don't necessarily mean they'll be weaker or stylistically the same - Honeycomb/Gotham were CHz rejects and were better than most of the album and the same could be said of the Mr Noah EP.
>>
>>63815003
ok i guess ur right but im not happy about it
>>
>>63815063
To be fair I do think with Gnip Gnop they did something a little different - it sounds a bit more "organic" than the super rubbery synths on the rest of the album, even though it's still rather cartoony.
>>
>>63814023
i feel like pw has some pretty good songwriting honestly

>the fake chorus in floridada after the vocals stop call and response before the actual chorus
>the vocal line in hocus pocus that starts normal and then sort of dissolves into the hocketing
>the entirety of the burglars with the first half building tension until the 'drop'

Just listened to them. Hounds of Bairro was fucking boring. Nothing about is good about it. Gnip Gnop is nice, and catchy. Painting With is still way superior.
>>
Gnip gnob makes me feel more retarded than I already am. The only plus about the two tracks is that they are longer than 2 minutes, which was my only complaint about PW

Both of these songs are on the better half from this era. As for Avey songs, I'd put Gnip Gnop behind Floridada and Burglars. It sounds way better slowed down (33 rpm) as does most of the PW material.

Hounds is the best PB song from this era, which isn't saying much. It definitely has the most interesting chord progression and melody. It's still super duper repetitive. But I can't think of a better PB song from this era.

Spilling Guts is pretty cool, actually it might be the best PB song this gen, partly because it's so short. Makes you wonder why he made that one short and none of the others as they all follow the same pattern

Recycling is cool but they could have done so, so much more with it.

and thems the facts, jack!
>>
>>63820175
Hocus Pocus is the best PB song this era
>>
>>63820333
it definitely is one of the better PB songs and it has the coolest atmosphere, but melodically it's kind of weaker in comparison to Spilling Summing and Hounds imo
>>
>>63820361
That's true, I guess. IMO the hocketing effect in general tends to diminish the melodies of the songs. It's why Boys Latin was a bit more successful in that regard because he was able to keep an infectious vocal melody intact.

For Panda's songs. I actually probably like Recycling's vocal melody most but like you said: they could have done a lot more with it. The instrumental was lacking. Still like it as a closer though - personally I tend to like albums ending with falling action (sort of like a denouement) rather than a giant bang.
>>
>>63820440
that's the reason I like Derek, Ponytail, or even Turn into Something more that Brosport or Amanita.

Recycling just sounds half baked, but I do like it as a closer.
>>
>>63820490
I've always had issues with Amanita because it felt like a deliberate (and almost manipulative) move by them to create this emotional build-up and cathartic release where it really wasn't earned. The beginning section of the song to that giant swell at the end seems sort of flimsy, progression wise.

But I know that's a bit of an unpopular opinion.
>>
>>63813008
Vertical and Golden Gal could have been so much better
>>
>>63820568
literally all of the songs could have been so much better.

I've heard nothing but super positive stuff about it. I will be very surprised if it's worse than PW.

This final track is sweet. It's called "Here come the Slimers"

It's a melodic james ferraro type sound scape pop song about a post apocalyptic baseball game that ends with a colorful chant similar to the end of The The's "Giant"
>>
>that drum beat on Footy
>>
I'd like to hear this before I go to bed

deaks the man, good house is a beautiful song.
>>
First impressions:
There are a lot of really cool classic AC sounds but this EP tries to cram a lot into a small space on some of the longer tracks. The singing style is a bit too pretentious (I hate to describe anything AC-related with this word) for me. Also, I will probably be relistening for the few "fuck yeah" moments - this is the closest an Animal Collective project has gotten to metal.
>>
>>63821289
instrumentally how does it sound? bleepy bloopy? Feelsy? Person Pitchy?

interesting that you say that he crams too much into the longer tracks, as opposed to the shorter ones.

the vocals are "pretentious"? are they different than how he sang on Wide Eyed?
>>
http://getleaks.org/indie/2234-deakin-sleep-cycle-2016.html
>>
>>63821289
how can vocals be "pretentious"?

goddamn, that's probably the most useless word in music criticism
>>
>>63821345
why does this have to be the sketchiest shittiest upload site
>>
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=msghJpDlwHU
>>
>>63821361
He adds a lot of unnecessary vocal flourishes that make me think "oh come on," and the way he enunciates his voice at times sounds disingenuous. Listen to how he says "now I've found..." at the start of Footy. That's what I mean. I think "pretentious" is the correct word for that.

>>63821342
It's very much like his live stuff. Some are the same tracks, but with a bunch of tremolo synth sounds added.
>>
>>63821433
what do you give PW out of ten and what do you give SC (i'm the first person to use this shortened form on the entire internet) in comparison

also why are the "fuck yeah moments" fuck yea moments?
>>
>>63821433
yeah the vocal flourishes thing sort of seems to be his thing, he did it a lot on the boots for wide eyed. Some times they're super pretty, occasionally they could fall flat.
>>
>>63821455
PW is great, on par with SJ for me maybe. Probably an 8.something? I can already tell SC is my least favorite of their solo stuff... don't know number to give it.

And I basically just mean when the beat drops. There are a bunch of live drums too.
>>
>>63821529
dang... PW is probably my least favorite AC album so I don't know if I can trust you anymore
>>

well because the only link to a leak is on a shitty ass website, I've been downloading for about 40 minutes. I'm almost 3 quarters there.
>>
>>63821025
fuck slimers is a complete jam. Best ending track since Brosport for sure.
>>
>>63814023
Holy shit, I agree with you on the CHz front. They were definitely trying too hard and not leaving anything to instinct. A lot of the songwriting suffered as a result but for a different reason to the stuff on PW. I just pray for another MPP t b h. Or at least their progressing into something that comes more naturally to them.
>>
>>63821832
I am praying for something as good as SJ. MPP is a 10, SJ is a 9, PW is like a 6-7. Even if they just pull off another 8 I'd be happy.

>>

don't know if I'd go that far, it is pretty sweet though. Best since Down There maybe? I love how it literally transitions from beginning to end.
>>
>>63821950

>>
>>63822153
they probably have it on what.cd already, or because its like 5am est and 2am pst rn and the americans arent up to be excited for anything
>>
>>63822153
pretty much dropped like 20 minutes ago which is 5 am EST.

It's pretty cool I'd say. After a single listen I'd probably give it a 7/10 where as PW i'd give a 6. It's got some cool melodies and soundscapes. Also the entire thing segues from song to song making it like one big piece, kind of sounds like sitting out on a pier of a pond surrounded by trees at night.

First song is probably the best, Good House is also great.
