Liturgy didn't really do harm, compared to the others. There aren't hordes of people copying them and beyond pitchfork and hipster critics they aren't even that popular

Liturgy comes across as a one-time act of showboating and bullshitting, and HHH comes off as so pretentious that even a majority of hipsters can smell his self-inflated stench from 10 miles away.

Deafheaven is more low key and therefore more dangerous

Nobody but an idiot would think that heavier = more experimental.

It has always been something to do with tempo, guitar tuning, and dynamic. And vocals.

For example, even though i agree funeral doom is heavy, and even fastcore/powerviolence is heavy as shit, to me the heaviest band in the world is Nile.

Experimental metal doesn't have this kind of emotion, metal came from psychedelic rock. I think the next "wave" of metal, the next chapter will come back to those roots, while pulling from other genres to make something really trippy

Theory: Punk after the 80s was inspired by thrash metal, instead of classic punk bands ie ramones
>>
What are some good non-krautrock German bands from the 70s-90s?
>>
>>63796546
Finally someone who knows what the fuck he's talking about.
>>
>>63796562
Hardcore definitely was.
>>
>>63796562
late 80s punk and early 90s metalcore was definitely largely inspired by punk, but you're missing a ton of shit between the ramones and post-80s punk
>>
>>63796562
Depends which way you'e going with it, because the 90's saw the rise of Green Day, Blink 182, and Sum 41.
>>
>>63796579
>was definitely largely inspired by punk
by thrash i mean, woops
>>
>>63796578
I'm sure some hardcore after the 80s was influenced by thrash, but hardcore was the one to influence thrash first
>>
>>63796562
what im trying to say here is that punk from the 70s and late 60s proto punk stopped. Punk from the 80s is an off shoot of metal.

Black Flag has more in common with Megadeth then The CLash

>>
>>63796613
Black Flag existed before thrash
>>
>>63796612
even that's a little debatable
e.g. agnostic front borrowing exodus riffs, not vice versa
there isn't very much punk on kill em all, aside from motorbreath, also
and basically no punk in slayer, who started as total maiden/priest fanatics
i'm unaware of venom having direct punk influence either
>>63796613
nah, black flag is older than thrash
>>
>>63796612
Hardcore influenced thrash then thrash influenced hardcore.

Theory: The more punk influence a subgenre has the easier it is for it to be appropriated by image-conscious hipsters.

>ergo, power metal and hair metal are among the trvest
>>
>>63796546
Not really. Possessed's first album released in 1985 and had all of the characteristics of early OSDM than regular thrash.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A6FZBIZ0Xbs

>>63796562
Completely wrong. Thrashcore predates thrash metal and prominent thrash metal bands cite thrashcore bands and proto-grind bands as their influence.

Metal's push into more extreme territories are more influenced by thrashcore, fastcore, grindcore, stenchcore, sludgecore and crust punk.
>>
>>63796621
That's from the eighties, retard.
>>
theory:Punk Rock is actually metal, as the influences weave n and out of one another

did it though? i don't hear any hardcore in the earliest thrash metal bands.

That's what I said, worded differently.

>>63796640
power metal and heavy metal are the absolute trvest metal.

thrash is a crossbreed abomination, and not true metal.
>>
>>63796657
maybe because thrash is already punk

>possessed's first album is chock full of exodus and slayer ideas

The same can say for full-blown 90s OS death metal too. Ideas from other subgenres carry over.

I like Punk more than metal

The whole idea of thrash came from playing heavy metal with the speed of hardcore.

agreed, but thrash can still be good, especially the less hardcore stuff

Thrashcore and fastcore aren't as old as thrash metal, I can guarantee that. Stenchcore is synonymous with crust btw. Sludgecore doesn't exist.

Metallica liked Discharge and Slayer liked Minor Threat so there's that.

patera is worse. deafheaven is just incredibly bland, it's kinda like the coldplay of extreme metal. but pantera is actively shit in every way.

>Thrashcore and fastcore aren't as old as thrash metal, I can guarantee that.
Literally what are you on about? Thrashcore as a term wasn't popularized until the 90s, however the sound originated in the very early 80s in a style simply known as "thrash", without the -core or metal suffix, but was a hardcore subgenre.

This became a problem because as thrash started to become influential in underground hardcore circles, this inspired bands to create thrash metal in the Bay area and Germany, creating a lot of confusion as there was a style of hardcore called thrash, and a style of metal called thrash metal. This caused the hardcore style to add the suffix -core, however this doesn't negate the fact that thrash metal bands are influenced by the thrash punk scene. It's basic metal history.

>Stenchcore is synonymous with crust btw
It was for a while, however a lot of modern stenchcore is influenced by death metal.

>Sludgecore doesn't exist
Sludgecore was the original name of the genre until sludge metal was popularized, sludgecore as a name is no longer used save for really arrogant punk elitists, most bands just call themselves sludge now.
>>
>>63796826

>>63796865

there are no thrash riffs in the top two songs. if that is thrash, we may as well just call black sabbath or the beatles or any other metal or punk or rock bands that played power chords and palm muted open strings
