I'm trying to find Christian albums that don't have that cheesiness that most alternative Christian music has.

not even joking
I guess Relient K, Switchfoot, and Chevelle.
I dunno. is Starflyer 59 cheesy?
>>63793198
opie it really depends if you're looking for "music which is made by Christians" or like worship music.
If it's the latter you really gotta go into improvisational and live stuff or the picks will be pretty bad.
>>63793229
I wouldn't disagree
>>63793231
I've never heard of them.
Relient K can be pretty cheesy but their self titled and mmhm are amazing.
If we are taking into consideration all genres, Demon Hunter is pretty mainstream metal. August Burns Red is fantastic. And the new Falling Up is ambient but 10/10
>>63793274
I'm looking for music made by Christians I guess. Not really working for worship music.
>>63793279
I've been listening to Starflyer 59, and they don't seem cheesy at all. It seems like they bounce from shoegaze, to post punk, to deftones-ish sounding stuff. Check it out!
>>63793304
ABR is excellent
Also Becoming The Archetype
>>63793362
I will definitely check it out because I've been looking for some Christian shoegaze.

rock music is especially impervious to christian ideals because it was devised, at a fundamental structural level, as the antidote to repressive victorian attitudes
this is the secret of lusty negro attitudes
your only chance is classical music
>>63793473
Hey bro check out this cool website. It think you will enjoy it.
>>>/pol/
>>63793473
I'm going to pretend I didn't read this to maintain my mental stability
only kinda joking
>>63793448
The guitar work on here is very interesting. I'm going to have to check out more of their stuff.
>>63793555
does anyone know of any good Christian rap that isn't this?
>>63793229
I concur.
mewithoutyou is pretty good.
>>63793589
Shad.

How could anyone forget Killswitch Engage and Jesse's project Times of Grace
>>63793624
Aren't they like Islamic at the same time?
>>63793667
I mean, 'abrahamic' is a pretty good umbrella term but yeah
>>63793660
thank you this is amazing
>>63793624
If there is one thing I never imagined, it's that mewithoutyou would be liked by anyone on /mu/.
>>63793589
Lecrae & tobymac
The Louvin Brothers - Satan Is Real
Sister Irene O'Connor - Fire of God's Love
Thrice. Its not "Christian Music", but Dustin Kensrue is an avid Christian and there are many strong tones in their music. They're amazing.
ABR is some of the best Christian metal for sure. I'm a big Anberlin fan, but y'all probably think that's pleb shit. Everything after Cities IS shit, so youre kind of right.
His Last Walk by Blessthefall is a really good album, but that my just be my own personal nostalgia talking.
Really just American Dream's a pretty great song
>>63794644
Cities is such an essential though goddamn
>>63794907
agreed anon. I hate the direction they went after this album tb.h

Gungor
Sufjan Stevens
Emery
Starflyer 59
Half-Handed Cloud
Danielson Famile
August Burns Red
Reverorum Ib Malacht
Kendrick Lamar
>>63793198
This is pretty good. Its on the cheesy side, but its great.
Not sure what genre. Closests would be post rock, space rock, country, and shoegaze.
Also check out 16 Horsepower and Wovenhand
>>63794919
Hear, hear!!!! Cities never fails to amaze me. I should give it another listen soon
>>63794939
Agreed. They sold out big time
>>63795044
how could I forget?
>>63794987
Brand New is christian?
>>63795044
>ABR
I actually much enjoyed Constellations
>>63795220
I believe they're kinda like Suf in that they sometimes make songs about being Christian but it isn't the main focus all the time
>>63795267
Constellations is fantastic, but Leveler is legendary.
>>63795425
Didn't hear that one. I'll check it out
this album is pretty good, if you haven't heard it yet, you should :)
>>63793429
Is Julien Baker any good? I'm going to memphis in may and she's on the lineup but i haven't considered seeing her yet
Any good Christian Post-rock?
Outside of pic related of course.
>>63795758
This >>63795086
and blush music by wovenhand are the only christian albums that even possibly are post rock that i've heard at least.
Don't be put off by the cover, it sounds nothing like that.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MmSkUO5wMB4
Keep Wovenhand obscure. I don't want them becoming a meme.
>>63793304
All good.
In the Midst of of Lions, The Crimson Armada, and For Today are good, too.
>>63793624
Damn if I don't love them.
>>63795193
Legitimately an amazing album
Also, they put on a fantastic live show and you should absolutely go see them if you get the chance. Probably my 2nd favorite live show behind Sufjan
>>63793198
Grammatrain Christian grunge

The Chariot
Pedro the Lion's first albums were good.
Underoath.
They've got 2 pretty solid metalcore albums: Define the Great Line & Lost in the Sound of Separation.
>>63797381
Cries of the Past is pretty good too. That's back from when they had a lot of black metal influence
>>63794644
Anberlin
I remember downloading their discography freshman year and falling in love. They were even my favorite band at one point in time I'm have to go back and give them a listen.
evenoxen.bandcamp.com
I make worship music in case anyone's interested. Saw some really good picks itt too. Especially love Texas Jerusalem and Trees Community
>>63793308
Megadeth, then?
Switchfoot
Killswitch
Emery
Anberlin
Admonish
NEEDTOBREATHE
what an inherently flawed way to seek new music.
>>63793229

I wasn't big on her album but she's great live. Definitely see her!
>>63794211
There's a decent amount of people on here who like them.
>>63795339
Jesse Lacey was raised Christian and went to a private Christian school but I don't believe any of them are Christian. Obviously though it was a part of his life so he writes songs referencing it sometimes. Jesus Christ is all about his fear of going to hell despite not being religious I think.
Generally, any classical/baroque music commissioned by the church will be amazing.
Just look into that.
Most Christian related stuff is cheesy and hamfisted. It's mainly due to the innocence of the dogma itself.
Like watching Veggie tales with my childhood friend was a chore to go through. I mean, im a believer too but no need to such a tacky arse about it
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f-vpAn15-vE
16 Horsepower are GOAT
>>63798636
Don't confuse protestant material targeted at teenagers for the pinnacle of Abrahamic art.
This is some good shit.

>>63794931
Are they Christian? Love this split and I'm super into Ash Pool and Fernow's stuff in general. I know he uses Christian symbolism sometimes but never really took that as meaning he was Christian himself.
The Chariot - Heavy Punk Metal
Norma Jean - Metal
Copeland - You are my Sunshine
This album is just beautiful
Absolutely beautiful

Cant find the interview online rite now, but I remember he said prurient or his other projects are not anti-religion and said something like "I'd go as far saying that Prurient is a religious project"
