I judged Low Lights, I Love Kanye, and Silver Surfer on their qualities as interludes, not songs. Low Lights is way too fucking long. ILK is GOAT. Silver Surfer is pretty funny desu
This album has some honestly amazing songs. Ultralight Beam and Real Friends are two of Kanye's best songs ever, easily.
God, it's fucking disappointing seeing an album this mediocre from Kanye. When I found out the title would be The Life Of Pablo I thought he was actually going to make something introspective and meaningful, about the problems with fame and bringing out all of his personal demons... Real Friends and NMPILA gave me a ton of hope.

i like it but apart from a few tracks it feels like a compilation of singles, nothing really impressive and it feels unfinished and incohesive
it's a shame because if kanye hadn't rushed it could've been really good

The narrative in this album seems interrupted. There isnt a clear lineal path. It has its highs and lows. Some tracks are better than others. Some tracks have great samples and beats with some stupid ass lyrics.

Kanye is showing us that he is finally breaking, mentally. He references anti depressants in FML and in NMPLA. He also mentions hes seeing a shrink. This album bring us into a deteriorating mind. Mental Lows and Mental Highs.

Yeah, same here, when I first put this on, I thought, it's okay, some great songs, but couldn't stand the autotune on others, yet now the style has grown on me, Now it's my favourite album of Kanye.
Oh, and apart form the obviously great songs like 30 Hours or Ultralight Beam, I Love Kanye was fucking GOAT. I love this kind of self-mocking meta-songwriting, it fucking made the album. Silver Surfer was a fun interlude too.
That being said, Ultralight Beam and its transition to Father Stretch My Hands was amazing, 30 Hours, Real Friends, No More Parties In LA were amazing, Also, I really loved Fade, it felt like he wanted to repeat the feel that Bound 2 gived on Yeezus, and he really succeded .
Only track I hate is Famous, I mean the "I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex" line is so cringeworthy, but I guess that's what happens if you're autistic.

he really dropped the ball on this one. i'm usually ready to defend kanye's music at any given opportunity, but i really can't defend this piece of shit. he fell for the trap meme but didn't go far enough to make an outright trap album, and it didn't work. ultralight beam, real friends, and the new version of facts are fantastic. both parts of father strech my hands are good. the rest ranges from okay to plain shit. he fucking destroyed wolves, what the hell was he thinking? also freestyle 4 may be the worst song he's ever done.

What do people actually like about TLOP? it's so empty and the most popular tracks are all trash, Famous is possibly the worst song Kanye has made. I love Kanye's old stuff but TLOP is so empty and the bonus tracks are the only decent tracks

Finally heard the remaster the other day. It's slightly better in general, especially Wolves, but Feedback and Freestyle 4 were two of my favorites and he made those worse so that sucks.

I get what you're saying, but it is a gospel record. It's a hip hop record. But yeah, thematically it's a gospel record. If you want to define gospel by the conventions of 50s, 60s, and 70s--that's fine. But that forces us to play a really lame ass game that the weakest music journalists do, where they flatly characterize an album by saying something like: >TLOP is a trap and soul-influenced hip hop/rap record with a R&B tinge
When I actually think it speaks more to the record to say it's a gospel record, assuming the audience/consumer knows that Kanye West is a rapper.
If we want to confine genres, we get a bunch of weird problems. Like, The Strokes debut couldn't be described as a rock record. Megadeth wouldn't be a metal band. If we can't let genre tags breathe and stay loose, we get really messy language and descriptors strung together by hyphens and words like "-influenced", "-tinged", or "pseudo-". That makes, in my opinion, bad music writing.
