>>
>>63770079
Nowhere, they're pretty bad.
Generic "stoner metal".
That entire genre sucks.
>>
>>63770110
Have you ever listened to High On Fire? I also hate stoner, but they are far from generic. They are one of the only stoner bands I can stand because of their speed/thrash edge.

>>
>>63770162
Yes I have, I hate them specifically because they don't sound anything like stoner doom OR stoner rock.

Stoner rock is also a shitty genre, but at least it has those sweet psych and southern elements.
High on fire is completely unremarkable and painfully generic as far as metal goes. The closest association is The Sword.

The only worthwhile stoner is doom.

I went to college and it just happened naturally by hanging around different clicks of hipsters and hip hop heads. You could of course also start with some classic roots and work your way out. Jazz, dance, electro, etc.

What if different genres appeal to different people, not because they sound the same, but because they sound different?
>>
>>63770269
Did I make a contradiction there?

Stoner rock and "stoner metal" are different things.

"Stoner metal" is an aesthetically sterile non-genre that sounds like a nondescript blob of heavy metal, thrash and speed run through a cheap fuzz pedal.

ah oh well, I love the new song so I'm chomping at the bit. All the "worst" aspects of this song seem really reminiscent of some french new wave films like parts of Godard's Weekend when it would flash title cards across the screen. The samples of "tragic alert etc" seem to serve this same purpose as to take us "out of the song" to remind us its "just a song"

of course there's the strong possibility I'm simply making excuses but wither way I don probably love this song in spite of those elements instead of because of them.

Every hipster band that has come out in the last three or four years basically took the waters that were pure, and defiled those waters. Ten years ago listening to doom metal was a very acquired taste. It was more underground than black metal in many respects. No one wanted to talk about doom metal with exception to maybe a few people who remembered Candlemass, old people, and random strangers on the Internet who spent way too much time on angelfire hosted websites searching for mp3s that did not work half of the time. I tell you this now, doom metal used to be a temple within the underground, a hallowed ground, a land forgotten by time and not meant to be unearthed.

But they found that temple, don't you understand? They found it, and they destroyed it like they destroy everything else.
>>
>>63773601

The CNK is what puritan grandmas think Marilyn Manson's music sounds like.

The CNK is the shameless glamorization of violence in its purest state.

The CNK is a bunch of droogies on a mission to offend absolutely everyone and be as edgy as possible, but get laid in the process.

The CNK is Deathstars if they had balls the size of basketballs and assumed their nazi popstar gimmick 100% without a hint of irony or restraint. And decent musicianship too.

The CNK are the authors of the ultimate school shooter anthem.

The CNK is the Count Nosferatu Kommando, and it is also the Cosa Nostra Klub, and they don't care about your teenage shit.

Black metal has been getting slowly co-opted by hipsters and weedy indie kids for a decade now(unless you're talking about the gross commercialization of it for the mallgoth crowd, that's been going on for like 20 years at this point).
Only difference being that the hipster favorite BM bands of old (Nachtmystium, Xasthur, WITTR, to a lesser degree bands like DSO, Bone Awl and Watain) still had their feet firmly planted in BM ideology and iconography.
These new "BM" bands like Deafheaven or Liturgy are either whitewashed, neutered and declawed until they resemble a more extreme take on overemotional suburban indie rock(Deafheaven) more than anything else, or are so heavily mired in over-labored pseudointellectual art student philosophizing that even extremely self-conscious indie kids can muster up the courage to admit to liking them in public(Liturgy).

>>63774180
>black metal is dead as fuck

But you couldn't even name 10 relevant black metal labels going right now, what do you know?
>>
>>63774208
>>63773976
All it means is that Doom Metal wasn't extreme enough to repulse stoners and hipsters.

I'm pretty sure most stoners and hipsters don't care for funeral doom at all, which is the logical progression of doom metal (as opposed to drone, which is the missing link between doom metal and psych ambient music)
>>
>>63774233
Oh, and I'm not trying to shit on DSO, Bone Awl or Watain by saying hipsters liked them, those are all good-to-great bands.
>>
>>63774233
I mean even if like deafheaven, i would never classify it as black metal
>>
>>63774247
That's why I put the BM designation in quotation marks, because both Deafheaven and Liturgy are actually in somewhat murky ground when it comes to genre designations and their supposed identification with BM(not by the band itself mind, more by the press) might be more of a marketing gimmick than anything else.
Still, if you asked your average P4Kfest-type dweeb whether he likes black metal, Deafheaven is guaranteed to be one of the first bands he'd mention.

>>63774233
What you're essentially saying (and it's entirely right) is that there's a difference between hipster metalheads, and hipsters who want to sound like they're into metal.

That's why I think that Doom Metal still doesn't have it nearly as bad as Black Metal. Even Stoner Doom is mostly appreciated by metalheads, even if they kind of break away from the mold of doom metal.

Help; I can't get into Black Metal, and I don't think I can. I don't much care for the drumming techniques employed in black metal (heavy use of snare perhaps), or the vocal stylings in general. Thus far, I've really enjoyed Altar Of Plagues, and Deafheaven, as well as Odium and Taake interestingly enough. I'm currently working Alda's Tahoma into my mind, along with this album I just found tonight:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g0LCdCMhswU

Apart from those few artists, I just cannot seem to appreciate the genre because of my own limitations. Unfortunately, I'm highly partial to guitar and drum wankery, like with Technical Death Metal, and soupy atmosphere laden grooves with the more experimental genres. Some "blackened" or "experimental" metal recommendations you could give me would be highly appreciated.

I've read that initially the Black Metal genre and First wave producers intended on creating an un-listenable and esoteric sound to retain scene purity, or something like that. They did a great job at expanding art and tantalizing listeners with fantastic pieces thought. It is ironic that people are now embracing the genre and progressing it, defeating the core purpose (assuming my first assumption was correct). Ironic how Wal-Mart now sells Nirvana and Black Flag T-shirts as well.

That's just Metastazis' schtick.
Metastazis is a pretty big French graphic designers studio that often works for extreme metal bands, and they have a really elitist and pretentious work ethic that strongly appeals to all the weird up-their-own-ass bands we have in France.

Basically, if you want Metastazis to do an artwork for you, you just send them your music, you pay them, and then they'll give you the final product without ever listening to your advice, and if you don't like it you can fuck off.

They often come up with weird ideas like that. They also did some posters printed with powdered human bones or someshit. They're pretty big on the whole fascist aesthetic too and, expectedly, they work with the CNK.

Absu were here in Tampa last week. I missed them, because I was too depressed to move from my floor. Abbath was a week earlier, and I had the same excuse, but in my defense at least for Abbath I had an additional excuse that I did not want to pay for parking outside of the venue.

As it happens missing both were mistakes that I regret deeply, which brings me full circle to being depressed on my floor.

If you like that sort of midpaced chugging DM, yeah they're worth it. If you don't they won't change your mind. Almost CC-ish in that despite minor differences most albums are pretty much interchangeable. The exceptions are the first two albums, which are much grindier.

People will argue incessantly over which is best, but the only consistent answer is "not any of the EPs or comps".
