Lupe is an awful storyteller, nobody has the sense of narrative mastery that Eminem has. Closest are biggie and ghostface, but ghost uses retarded slang to get his point across. He's like an even more dense James joyce (and i dont mean that in a good way). Whereas eminem is rap's hemingway, rap's anton chekhov. His insight into the human condition and ability to say so much with so little is outmatched. No one can even hope to match his candid realism.

He also has more theatrical concepts, nas is a poor storyteller, barring Blaze a 50 (underrated song). Lol @ listening to scarface.

This pop bullshit these days is a joke, it's A&R and hype. Nigs sucking dick. Em the only rapper I've listened to who's skill has gotten better, more complex. Even the top rappers skill fall off after the first or second album
>>
If you think he's one of the only "technically impressive" rappers, he must be one of the only rappers you've listened to. Because there are a lot of rappers who do verses full of multisyllabic rhymes and all that. And I don't think forcing multisyllabic rhymes for a lot of your career puts you any higher on the "poetic" scale.

http://www.whosampled.com/Eminem/

>rhymes better than every other rapper out there, most are horrible rhymers i.e. MF DOOM, Camron, Rakim and have horrible ABC bullshit rhymes

Rakim is a far superior MC top Eminem. Since you're predominately using east coast rappers I guess I'll name several who are better than him: Nas, Big L, Big Pun, Guru, Ghostface Killah, Pharoahe Monch. That's just off the top of my head.

>outshined every rapper he ever collabed with

That's entirely subjective. We can argue who's more skilled but favoring verses is pointless.

>brought Dre back to the forefront and out of irrelevance

This is key for showing how delusional you are. He owes his entire success to his stewardship under Dre. He has acknowledged several times that Dre. is the primary driving force behind his success, but I'm guessing some autist on /mu/ knows him better than himself.

>accept him as the one true goat

He's not even the best white hip-hop act, that title goes to Beastie Boys. Nothing he's made tops Paul's Boutique.

None of em are as close to rhyming as Eminem, eminem rhymed a helluva lot more and had better lyrics to boot. His rhymes were so gud, you don't even notice he's rhyming half the time, they were so subtle. Earl is just a dumbed down SSLP eminem. Dipset just rhyme lafft taffy with Daffy scrappy esque shit. G rap was gud but was rendered irrelevant by eminem. MF DOOM is meme version of Camron for hipsters. Rakim is for oldfags who literally just raps about rapping, wow so meta! Big Daddy Kane is the worst old school artist out of Rakim and G rap. Big Pun rhymed just to rhyme and repetitive subject matter.

Lol @ not mentioning Big L, who was the only one who could match eminem (when he's on his absolute A game) in terms of creativity, wittiness, and coherent rhymes. Listen to Devil's son, Dangerzone, or All black.

>>63747227
Nas has one good album that's a meme album, boring beats, terrible hookmaker, pretends he's the second Moses, Allah, Jesus. Got cucked out by Jay z. Made two attention seeking albums ala HHID and the Nigger album, both which flopped hard. Collabs with some shitty Australian group cause he's out of work now https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ebyr-mZ2iNo. I could literally go on & on. Lol at ur hero.
>>

Eazy E didn't write his verses while in N.W.A.
>>
>>63747236

literally mention one verse by ANY of those rappers with rhymes as dense as his lose yourself verse. EVERY word in that song rhymed with something, it was a complex web of rhymes, like a rhyme diamond, yet despite that NONE of it feels forced at all. Why are u naming Guru or Ghostface, both are horrible rhymers.

Eminem has more mic presence than Nas and Big Pun. Had more versatile flows, better delivery, WAAAY better story teller than anybody on this list. Would rip them to shreds in a battle (both on wax or on stage) and in the booth. Had literally more creative stories than Nas (lol at rapping as a gun, show me a rapper who has humor that can match As the world turns or Brain damage, his humor was so subtle, like a simpsons episode. Ghostface is good, but he's hurt by having to use slang for his raps, since he knows if he rapped like a regular human being, his veneer of depth would be marked as shallow.

>That's entirely subjective. We can argue who's more skilled but favoring verses is pointless.

Not rly? He demolished Jay z in renegade, redman put up a decent fight in that song but lost, royce was the only one who could be argued to have a better verse in BME (sslp lol). Wayne sux donkey dick.

>This is key for showing how delusional you are. He owes his entire success to his stewardship under Dre. He has acknowledged several times that Dre. is the primary driving force behind his success, but I'm guessing some autist on /mu/ knows him better than himself.

He's just being humble, lol. Yes Dre did put him on, but it was aboslutely ALL eminem's talent that made him blow up, most ppl hate eminem's beats lol. His own eccentricity and uniqueness amidst the jiggy era was a breath of fresh air and was what put him into the rap stratosphere effectively ending Puffy's reign. Literally once ppl saw wow this white boy can spit, they latched onto him. Dre's own detox album only has any relevance cause of Eminem's appearances init.

how does it feel to know that album completely flopped and forced nas to start his mafioso posturing and effectively bury his career along with it? Also SSLP is better, much better. Illmatic is super bland and has no soul to it.

>>63747640
It's not like that though, lol any moron could do that. Vinni paz does that. Eminem doesnt just rhyme like that lol, he has way more complex rhyme schemes. Also did u miss me praising his storytelling, flow, delivery, humor, mic presence? Literally his rhyming is just a cherry on the top

Not at all. Eminem's music has much more depth than most realize. His early stuff was mostly a satirization of the zeitgeist and modern culture of the early 2000's. He acknowledged it was only a character in his songs and he also covered controversial topics and showed the world a new ruthless punk-leader. He also matured a lot and a lot of his personal, introspective songs are simply genius and nothing short of breath-taking. Listen to the music deeper before you put it in a box.
>>
>>63747862
>listen to Oh Boy by Cam'ron & Juelz Santana and tell me that isn't a better song than anything on Illmatic

Rewind is a gimmicky mess and not even close to nas' best song or even storytelling song (blaze a 50 takes that throne)

but https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kCX8qS70hII

literally the opening rhymes to this song is perfect, rhymes are fluid, crisp, NOT forced. AND it's hilarious, eminem's humor was top notch

He banged my head against the urinal til he broke my nose,
Soaked my clothes in blood, grabbed me and choked my throat
I tried to plead and tell him, "We shouldn't beef"
But he just wouldn't leave, he kept chokin me and I couldn't breathe
He looked at me and said, "You gonna die honkey!"

People on /mu/ are obviously going to hate Eminem, he's a shit musician. He produces horrible beats, he writes the worst hooks. It's been like that since TES, pretty much. I think it's either because he started taking more control over the musical production of his albums or because the drugs fucked up his hearing/sense for music.

Go to communities of hip hop heads, people who are into rap specifically - Everyone knows Eminem is GOAT and that his albums are all amazing except for like one.

Undisputed list of best rappers by carefully calculating their discos by their grade point average. No dont ask me why Death Grips or Dalek are there, I don't listen to meme rappers

he is to rapping what eddie van halen is to guitar playing.
>>
>>63750017
Looked at Top 20, that list is horrible.
>>
>>63749961
Nah, those are just teenagers who discovered "real hip hop". The big Facebook communities, Genius, and even reddit's board are filled with intelligent rap fans. Eminem is good at rapping you can't really deny that.

>>63749991
Shit musician, good rapper. It's not the same. If you consider rapping as creating music (I don't), then Eminem is a good musician when it comes to rapping only.

You're lucky you closed it there, they have Blu at number 18.

whats the point in judging rappers by their skill in rapping alone if they make shitty albums
skill in rapping doesnt mean shit if you cant utilize it properly
>>
>>63750182
>le everyone is stupid except for 4chan
Very few people here know jackshit about hiphpop, whatever enjoy your memes.
>>
>>63750222
If you're being serious then facebook is the worst place to discuss anything pretty much. I've seen people on Genius say Wayne has 14 classics, I've also seen a fair bit of hate on there for Em. Reddit is just as bad as here for discussion but at least here you can't have people downvote you. With all that said Eminem will never be GOAT with albums like Encore and Recovery.
>>
>>63750165
it's a still work in progress obv. Redman is sure to move down as i venture further into his disco. Kendrick is sure to retain his number one spot tho.

What, pray tell, did you find wrong with this list?

>>
>>63750251

Em is very divisive. He always has been. A lot of people on Reddit, 4chan and other sites love him. A lot of them hate him. A lot of them like the old Em. A lot of them pretend to hate him to be cool. Etc
>>
>>63750201
Yeah... Eyedea at 2 already pissed me off.

>>63750210
I mean, enjoy lisetning to rap by itself. I appreciate the rhymes, the flows, how it's written. It's obviously better if the album is a whole musical project with the beats being an integral part of it - but I can put up with Eminem rapping over some wack piano beat if he's going to rap the way he does.
>>
>>63750252
It takes into account how good the discography is not the influence each artist has had, which is probably this biggest part of a greatest list as most other things can be pretty subjective.
>>
>>63750289
What's wrong with eyedea, he's one of the few to really succesfully blend rock & rap. He also has one of the most philosophical and deepest minds in hip hop.
>>
>>63750017
MF Doom is literally the only deserving top 10 there, and even that is debatable.
>>
>>63750289
I can at least understand Eyedea being high if you're into that kind of rap. He wouldn't be in my top 10 but I can understand why someone would put him there.
>>63750288
And how much of that divisiveness comes from 12 year olds or straight up fanboys? My guess would be a lot, most people agree that Em dropped off.
>>
>>63750301
I don't particularly care for influence. i mean it's good, but I judge more on quality (obv this is subject), but there are tons of things that are influential but are boring to me. Most 80s hip hop for example or rakim, meanwhile masta ace may not be as influential as his peers, but in the 00s was a better rapper than the ever were.
>>
>>63750323
name ur ten favorite rappers than.

Black thought definitely earned a spot through consistency alone, plus he got better over time (well he declined in 2010) but yeah, in 06 he was the best rapper in the planet. Biggie only had two albums worth of material but both were classic, cant fault him for dying early, he didnt produce trash. Outkast needs no explanation. Ice cube is gonna move down once i go further into his disco. And i guess i can get not liking spoonfull, he's not for everyone.
>>
>>63744697
>Whereas eminem is rap's hemingway,
This post is strange. Why would you insult Eminem in the middle of a bunch of praise?
>>
>>63750251
Facebook obviously depends on which groups you take part of. Many are terrible, some are great. Genius has some idiots I guess, but I had many great conversations there as well. I don't really go on Reddit but I know more than a few people with great taste who do.

Recovery is decent by the way, but I have to agree with Encore being bad.

>>63750334
You have to be into a VERY specific kind of rap to put Eyedea on your top 3....
>>
>>63750335
You should really try some of that 80's rap again, Rakim is easily top 10. Even based purely off of skill how can you compare rappers who've released 10 albums and stayed consistent to rappers who've released 2 and thats it.
>>
>>63750367
Funnily enough both those replies are to me. Facebook has most of the discussion on pages, the majority of the people who like a page will like the thing that is being discussed leaving little room for proper discussion. Take Em for an example, go on his page and say something bad againsts him and you'll have 50+ fanboys talking shit against you within an hour. Everytime I've been on Genius (admittedly not a lot) the discussions been the same, if you don't fit into that hivemind you're going to be downvoted constantly, making it so you can't reply to shit, Same with reddit. As for Eyedea, the guy who made the list obviously fit into that, there was atleast 3 Rhymesayers rappers in his top 20.

Dude who is having discussions on an artist's page? There are close "forum" groups dedicated to hip hop, some of them are great, you usually have to find them through friends or something.

Man, no matter how you feel about Em you can't argue that this isn't great. I can see why people didn't give a fuck about him with this style though since it was too common at the time.

Man, I can't believe there's no official instrumental of this anywhere. What a top tier beat.

No one said he was a bad lyricist, but you need more than just that.

Like SSLP - MMLP - The Eminem Show was one of the GOAT trilogies and Encore is alright but then he just fell off in terms of everything else except lyricism.

The Marshall Mathers LP (Columbia, 2000) refines that approach. Eminem's salacious fantasies of Britney Spears and other assorted "bitches", "sluts" and "faggots" are crowd-pleasers (if the crowd is morbid enough, as crowds tend to be), but the art is elsewhere: Stan (whose rude male rap alternates with an angelic female lullaby over sounds of a storm and a Neil Young-ian rhythm) and Kim (whose thundering, symphonic score punctuates the screams of two arguing lovers and contrasts with a romantic melody a` la Francoise Hardy) are psychodramas (not only songs) that force hyper-realism into rap music the same way the Doors forced drugs into pop music.
It is not a coincidence that Mathers' tragic peak comes with the post-Morrison Freudian nightmare of Kill You, a rap (paced by brutal pauses) that sweeps away any remaining taboos about sex and violence, a conversation piece in which vulgar language becomes "the" poetic language. To emphasize the melodrama, The Way I Am employs even death bells and a Beethoven-ish piano figure, and its rap is as visceral and desperate as Eminem music can be.
When it works, Eminem's pantomime is a force of nature.
On the other hand, The Real Slim Shady is a farcical rigmarole with a vaudeville-esque rhythm, I'm Back is virtually a cabaret number turned rap, Drug Ballad employs a stomping beat, a strummed piano and girl-group backing vocals, Criminal sounds like a mockery of Eminem's own hit My Name Is, and Marshall Mathers is a parody that borrows from Broadway musicals and western soundtracks: Mathers has no respect for his own art.
Mathers is a calculating pop phenomenon (songs alternate with brief spoken interludes of people commenting on Eminem's attitude, of he having oral sex with two guys, etc, the ultimate form of self-glorification) that viscerally exposes calculating pop phenomena.

>Doesn't sample

This is a disgrace to hip hop.

Hip hop music was built on Turntables and sampling.

Without people like Marly Marl and Afrika Bambataaa hip hop sampling on turntables hip hop wouldnt even exist...

Why would someone who doesn't like black people even want to listen to Hip Hop, Jazz or funk music anyway?

Shouldn't you be listening to skinhead music instead?

Hate his fan base, and he is seen as a god by kids. He is a great musician but people hate him cuz of his fanbase.
