mai nigga
>putting the second canonic voice into the superius
What the hell Blume, that's not what the Munich manuscript says. Not to mention doing so clutters up the upper register so much the top voices are just trading intervals at all time, forms parallels with the altus, creates a gap in the middle register, and forces 3-1 cadencial motion instead of the usual 6-8 between structural voices. I guess this is what you get for trusting German prints.

Pirates of Penzance, Mikado - Sullivan
Le Postillion De Lonjemeau - Adam
Can you guys tell me why does classical still use violins, string, woodwinds, brass, etc.. still? Its been couple of centuries and we haven't invented new instruments?
>>63746130
Because they sound good. It's not like plenty of composers don't use other things as well.
>>63746130
Steve Reich, Philip Glass and most Minimalists use other stuff as well. Is this b8?

April fools, I hope all this is gone in the morning.
>>63746130
Classical is using new instruments though. Look up the Lupophon. Its a fairly recent addition. Classical also uses synths (since the 50s), electronic effects and recording of live sound (since the 60s), and pretty much any instrument composers can get their hands on.
Classical music is essentially just music written by trained composers. the actual instruments don't matter. There's a concerto for turntables, a solo piece for urine dripping on membranes, a piece for yabahar and string ensemble, there are many lera auerbach pieces with theremin, many pieces with live electronics +(insert instrument). New instruments get invented, and composers write for them. Composers are almost always interested in new sound and instruments.

??
is kanye modern classical?
>>63749601
Basically
>>63749601
no. Kanye isn't a trained composer. He doesn't write scores. he writes albums that are stored on recordings. He is the embodiment of popular music. The exact opposite of classical.
>>63748769

>>63749601

Glorious days.
>>63749601
No but Jeff Mangum is.
What does /Classical/ think of John Taverner? He's so underrated imo
>>63751603
He's rated just right. There's only one contemporary of his that is perpetually underrated as a mass writer however...
>>63752056
Robert Fayrfax? He isn't even listed on the wikipedia list of Renaissance composers
>>63752301
>He isn't even listed on the wikipedia list of Renaissance composers
And no, the fact that the portrait wasn't even recognised is further proof that the Light of Spain in Music is underrated.
>>63752395
I actually ignored your portrait. Spanish music of the period is pretty good though, if you like that late period style. Looks like Morales.
>>63752728
>Spanish music of the period is pretty good though
They're so and so, which is not surprising considering they were drowned out by the first magnitude stars of the musicians from the Low Countries that Charles brought over. Morales belongs to that category as well since even his countrymen considered him foreign rather than native. I wouldn't exactly call his style "late period", it's still very much mid-century, but modern in the sense that it's more relaxed and with much smoother voice leading. He was definitely the best mass composer of his generation, if not of all time. If only he got a job offer from either the Imperial Chapel or the Medici's private chapel, then perhaps he would have lived longer and published more.
what is the best recording of the rite of spring?
>>63753162
mine
http://onlinesequencer.net/230675
Anyone recognize this song? This is the intro part It's probably in the wrong key and tempo but it's all I remember from it. Pretty sure it's a famous song.
Is there a classical pastebin at all?
Favorite recording of Shosty 9? Anyone here have thoughts of the political implications of the publication of Shostakovitch 9?
I've played classical violin (incl. in orchestras) for over a decade but never listened to much classical. New World Symphony is my favorite. What else should I listen to to get into it more?
>>63755209
>>63754880
I like Klemperers I guess. Not my favorite Shosty though. As far as the political implications go... I think it's kind of interesting but ultimately I find it annoying how most people discuss the politics behind Shostys music more than the actual music itself.
>>63755522
That's because Shostakovich's music isn't interesting and therefore is not worth discussing.
>>63755369
Danke
Is there a classical equivalent of this image?

>>63758804
how do you feel about Harnoncourt's recording of Bach's Mass in B?
>>63759562
Which one? The earlier I feel indifferent about, the later one is probably my favorite ever.
>>63731873
>tfw my local orchestra puts on best performances
I wish I could take someone who'd be actually interested in that sort of thing, there is absolutely no qt sophisticated women near my age range where I live.
>>63759664
yeah, i was talking about the latter one too, i don't like the really early one either.
there was a live recording from 2010 posted on SS you might be interested in (just recently). i listened to it a night ago and my first impression was that it was better than his latter studio one, BUT it's been awhile since i've listened to the studio version so i'm not sure if that's entirely accurate. regardless, i still liked the performance quite a bit.
the audio quality is fairly nice too, you can really hear the bass. there's a few clicks left over though (easily cleaned up anyway).

Hildegard is the most overrated Medieval composer.
Just found out I'll be in a performance of Verdi's Requiem next year. And Handel's Coronation Anthems this fall. I am too hype right now OMG

L
do you think leonin is overrated too?
>>63727723
German because it's the one I use.
But seriously, one is not inherently superior to the other. I like German because I think the bass should have something special to set it apart from the other strings, since it doesn't get hella range like a cello or the visual versatility of a violin.
>>63764459
No. Leonin's fine. I just get annoyed with everybody who takes a high school Music App class namedropping Hildegarde like it's supposed to impress me or something.
