Deathcore fan here. I wish I could explain it. I used to hate metal screams of any kind. Then it became one of the only genres I listened to. That and metalcore. Strangely enough now I almost exclusively listen to hip hop. I still fucking love this music though.

Yeah there's definitely an energy and anger element to it. I still listen to bands like Bring Me The Horizon, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Northlane, Protest The Hero, Thy Art Is Murder etc.
With a couple of them I'd say I'm mostly loving the energy, and not paying too much attention to the lyrics, but some of them I honestly enjoy the lyrics of.
I never saw any reason to hate something purely because it's "angsty".

I don't really like the screams that are done with all sorts of technique and practice, I just love when artists will scream and yell because mentally something in my brain releases the illusion that I'm doing it myself, it's kind of stress relieving.
