Jazz and Philosphy are absolutely as niche as I think they are. I've literally met one person, ONE that listens to jazz regularly. I've met a handful of people even that know anything about philosophy. After 2/3rds of a semester of music appreciation, most people in my class still think Bach is from the classical period. This, as I'm sure you know, is the most basic of knowledge. Spend 30 minutes on the wikipedia page for "philosphy" and you'll know more than 90% of the people you will ever meet, I promise you.
