The live rework of Blood Promise is the best rock song of all time, so I'm gonna go with Blood Promise.

Swans was good when i first got into no wave. but when i dig deeper into the real realm of no wave and experimental music, i realized that Swans is not that good. very boring and not interesting textures

Sorry fäm, got your post numbers confused. Best albums from their respective eras are Swans Are Dead, Cop, Anonymous Bodies in an Empty Room, and White Light from the Mouth of Infinity.
>>63709473
Yeah man, I'm sure people picking up Mars Alt Takes and Rehearsal Demos are doing so with the expectation of unique textures.

It's about visceral, percussive ferocity and proliferation of noise and atonality with rock music.
>>
>>63709337
White Light from the Mouth of Infinity, Soundtracks for the Blind, The Seer and To Be Kind are my favourites and Children of God is quite good too
>>
>>63709798
Yeah dead, infinity and anon bodies are pretty good. Filth>greed>cop
>>
Swans is a band that everyone loves, except for the fans of the genres they belong to. No-wave fans do not think Swans is one of the greatest no-wave bands of all time, post-punk fans do not think Swans is one of the greatest post-punk bands of all time, and post-rock fans do not think Swans is one of the greatest post-rock bands of all time. They are essentially "weird" music for people who are too afraid to venture any deeper into the genres that their music falls into.

In my opinion at least.
What kind of music are you looking for exactly?

1. Just A Little Boy [Not Here/Not Now]
2. Just A Little Boy [The Gate]
3. Her [Omniscience]
4. Blood Promise [Swans Are Dead]
5. Some Things We Do [To Be Kind]

Top Swans songs, objectively.
>>
>>63709848
Well I'm new to Swans so I just would like something that would impress.

You can't go wrong with Great Annihilator for the first album you listen to.
Either that, or Soundtracks for the Blind if you want grandiose and scale.

>No-wave fans do not think Swans is one of the greatest no-wave bands of all time
I mean, that would be kind of odd seeing as how no wave had essentially died by the time Swans formed.
>>63709861
>implying it's not
My point is that the handful of highly prolific no wave bands didn't have high fidelity recording equipment or production engineers at their disposal with which they could bring forth a focus on texture.

To say that no wave approached a key value of texture at its core is just ignorance.
>>
>>63709885
Do you have decent album art for Omniscience?
>>
>>63709916
Are there some exact songs to both albums? Or is it a full album-must?
>>
>>63709845
Those are my three favorite genres and I don't feel that way at all
>>
>>63709947
Uh, I'd recommend Celebrity Lifestyle, Blood Promise, I Am The Sun, She Lives, and Where Does a Body End, honestly, you're better off listening to both albums all the way through.
>>
>>63709337
Everyone hates the album, but I can't help feeling that God Damn the Sun is one of their best songs
>>
>>63709995
Thanks.
>>
>>63710037
Hell yeah man, Burning World was a fucking solid album despite them deviating from what they were doing at the time.
Funny enough, I've been listening to God Damn The Sun a lot lately.
>>
>>63710041
No problem man, I love Swans, and I hope you feel the same.
>>
The Sound is pretty much the song to beat still
>>
>>63710132
>The Sound is pretty much the song to beat still
I listened to that for the first time today, definitely my favorite song off of Soundtracks, over Helpless Child, the buildup and power are just unmatchable
>>
>>63710164
It's almost indisputably the best song on that album, and SFTB is almost indisputably their best album - that was my logic.
>>
>>63710190
I agree, because Soundtracks for the Blind just has so many different elements going for it.
>>
>>63710164
>>63710190
The live version on Swans Are Dead blows it out of the fucking water. Befittingly, it's also the superior album.
>>
best song is love will save you
best album is sftb
>>
>>63710164
not how they suffer? one of my favourites on the album
>>
Top 5:

1. To Be Kind
2. Filth
3. SFTB
4. The Great Annihilator
5. Public Castration
>>
1. Love of Life
2. The Seer
3. White Light from the Mouth of Infinity
4. Burning World
5. To be Kind
>>
>>63710760
I haven't had time to listen to the entire album yet, I'm sure They Suffer is amazing too.
>>
>>63710829
well I hope you listen to it
I really like how they suffer because of its emotion, for the feels

The live version of The Sound is their high point to this day, though live versions of the Seer/TBK stuff comes close
>>
The Seer >= Soundtracks for the Blind > Children of God > White Light from the Mouth of Infinity = Cop > Filth = To Be Kind = The Great Annihilator > My Father = Love of Life = Greed = Holy Money > The Burning World
>>
>>63709337

everything else a shit

tru
I listened to that on repeat when my dog died
>>
>>63709402
My first listen of Filth was definitely an experience.
I listened pretty much only to Radiohead with some indieshit thrown in. I listened to Filth and it was a beatdown. Right from the first track I was feeling it. Once the opening to Weakling started I was just thinking "oh shit."
I've become more desensitized to it now, but it's still really good.

Swans EP: 7.6/10
Filth: 9.3/10
Cop: 8.2/10
Greed: 8.1/10
Holy Money: 8.1/10
Children of God: 7.9/10
The Burning World: 5.4/10
White Light: 5.8/10
Love of Life: 5.6/10
The Great Annihilator: 8.2/10
Soundtracks for the Blind: 9.3/10

>>
>>63714849
I went to see Swans with my girlfriend at the time and I spent the entire show worrying about her because she had a heart condition. Had to stand all the way at the back because it was too loud for her
