The sound's not bad.
The lyrics are garbage.

I guess one aspect of her music is better in this song.

My Bloody Valentine
Ministry
Underworld

Boredoms in a way too, though Pop Tatari and Chocolate Synthesizer were popular enough they're more popular for their Super æ and Vision Creation Newsun style now.

Bark Psychosis were originally a Napalm Death cover band (actually, Bark Psychosis would have been a great Death Metal name)

Swans
Pink Floyd sorta

Eh Pink Floyd with the departure of Syd is understandable. Waters and Rogers obviously had a different artistic vision

I was so surprised listening to Geek! for the first time...That was no where near Loveless/Isn't Anything type of sound.
It's like a subdued, wobbly Viet Cong x Beach Boys mashup.

Talk Talk is the most correct answer
>>
>>63706635
No it's true
>The band started life as a teenage Napalm Death cover project, reflecting the members' early interest in extreme noise. Other early influences included Sonic Youth, Talk Talk, Butthole Surfers, Big Black, Swans and Joy Division.
>>
Pantera
>>63707051
yes
>>
>>63705272
Wow, it's sorta refreshing hearing Billy actually put some deepness in his voice instead of trying to sound like a dying old lady.
Still like his later vocals though.

Before anything they tried to be a blues band. You can find Syd trying to sing "I'm a king bee" on youtube

Every musician that started in the sixties. They had to get the contractually obligated play some songs by other writers albums out.

Yes but that's not what they're famous for. If they were a punk band that got famous from that prog album then it would fit the thread

oh yeah. They went through like 3 completely different phases. Young dude raps about sex and girls over fast slap bass funk and metal. Young dude is friends with a wonderful guitarist, the bassist cools down, the drummer is top shit - they make beautiful, sexy, funky music that is really fucking great. Young dude is no longer young and sings about romantic love, abandons eroticism and speed, guitarists brings in synths and very poppy arrangements.

Before Nine Inch Nails, Trent Reznor was in a 80s synth-pop band:

You could say the same about Ice-T. The truth is Punk and Hip Hop are comparable simply because of the emphasis on attitude.

Joy Division > New Order

Or even just New Order in general.
>>
>>63705272
>Bands/artists which started off as totally different genres to what they became famous for
>>63712412
>Joy Division > New Order

Joy Division were already famous.
>>
I wanted to say Scott Walker, but he was actually already known for his earliest releases...

But I'll say Scott Walker all the same.
>>
>>63712412
Joy Division would have gone techno anyway
I can totally imagine Ian Curtis singing Blue Monday or Temptation
>>
>>63712435

What? The statement or subject was "bands who started off in one genre and became famous for another genre", not "bands who were famous then became famous for something else" . Joy Division was totally different from what New Order is famous for, which is dance synthpop or whatever you want to class it as.

Only layne was in Alice N'Chains

When he formed a band with Jerry Cantrell, he used his old band name.

Neurosis used to be a hardcore punk band

Was thinking more of the fact they went from shoegaze and dream pop to britpop

I took it as "band play one genre of music and is unknown, changes genres and becomes famous"

either way the joy division to new order change has always been interesting to me

Sparks probably had the most dramatic change that I know of, they went from glam rock to disco to new wave to orchestral pop

pretty much any group thats just one or two people if it manages to stick around is going to change style a lot though
>>
>>63707748
Eh, debatable. I always figured that their post-2005 sound is something that could only be achieved by starting where they did musically.

New wave to industrial metal

no, but it's still great

Honestly I'm looking forward to their new album. Curious to see how the new guitarist has developed his sound amongst the rest of the band

Debut - Uplift party mofo plan
>phase 2 - funk/alt rock
MM - BSSM
>phase 3 - wat
One hot minute
>phase 4 - alt rock pop
Californication - I'm with you

However between Josh and John I guess they could also have entered a new phase
