Alright, first time listening to this album, here are my ratings (may change later):

California Kids - 6/10
Wind in Our Sail - 7/10 (solid 8+ if it had a solo)
Thank God for Girls - 4/10
(Girl We Got A) Good Thing - 5.5/10
Do You Wanna Get High - 8/10
King of the World 7/10
Summer Elaine and Drunk Dori 7.5/10
L.A. Girlz - 9/10 (is it just me or this sounds like Susanne?)
Jacked Up - 8/10 (again, no solo?)
Endless Bummer - 9.5/10 (dat ending, dat everything)

Overall great and comfy as fuck album. I put blue and pinkerton at the top, followed by EWBAITE and White with a close 4th place. Good to know good Weezer isn't dead yet.

>that bouncy piano

It feels like an original Weezer song, whereas a good majority of the tracks on this feel like they have a foundation that can be tracked back to previous Weezer songs. It's catchy without being familiar. It stands on its own and feels like an actual new approach. The bridge of "why do they die?" is a nice dark contrast to the positivity that some of the lines on the song convey. Honestly, this songs a grower, but after like six listens it's my favorite.

Now please, tell me why any of the 3 singles are better.

>piano
Guitars have always been Weezer's greatest instrumental asset. I saw them last night and people were singing to the solos - "el scorch," "the british are coming," even fucking "beverly hills." The piano would be great if it wasn't so dominant in the mix. It sounds like it came ripped from a panic! at the disco song, or maybe Kevin Bell slept through rehearsal. I don't know.

>falsetto chorus
I'm amazed you can take that whining. He recurrently sounds like he's getting kneed in the sack (on the high notes) and while his lower register is fine, it's amazing that even within a pop context, he'd go there.

Your point about contrast is compelling, I agree that it's a contrast. Only thing is, this album's got a narrative arc to it: fall in love, hit the peak, break up. So it makes sense that it would develop that way. In terms of feels, endless bummer is more on-point.

The best single and the best track on the album period is "L.A. Girlz."
> the way the two guitars weave together in the verses, not to mention that solo
>the lyrics about being pregnant and sleeping on the edge of the girl's bed
those are even more vulnerable than the ones you stated previously; he's so in love with her he'd bear her child, in pain, and she doesn't give a shit. That's some pinkerton level stuff.

>the bridge
Now -that- is a falsetto, and the way Cuomo alternates between a number of registers atop that steadily-growing guitar progression feels natural, not forced as in "Jacked Up"

I'm happy to keep discussing this, I could go on about that song all day.
>>
Endless Bummer is a great closer. I don't think there's a single song I actually hated. Thank God for Girls is the worst track, though.
>>
>>63716892
Yes, I picked up on some of the same Pinkerton tones as you. Honestly, I don't really get the disconnect you have between the falsetto on Jacked up and the falsetto on LA Girlz. I liked both, but I thought its use on Jacked Up was catchier.

That being said, I would say LA Girlz is probably my third favorite track so it's not like I can really disagree with you. For reference, I'd probably go
1. Jacked Up
2. California Kids
3. LA Girlz
4. Endless Bummer
5. Wind In Our Sails

>>
I'm really liking that every song on this album is equally loved it looks like.
Probably the first Weezer album post Pinkerton where there isn't at least one song that everyone unanimously agrees is shit.

Like, I don't really like Jacked Up but I see tons of love for it.
I think Good Thing is 10/10 but others see it as the worst.

It's real neat.
>>
>>63721774
I like it, but it's very reminiscent of their Raditude/Hurley shit
>>
I'm really loving this album. There's not really a song on here I would skip over.
>>
Weezer is on Jimmy Fallon tonight btw
>>
TGFG is polarizing but it's really NOTHING like the shit from Hurlitude Weezer.

It's different and it's definitely not Weezer at all, but the lyrics have 10000000 times more effort put into them than those albums and even the music is cohesive.

That said it's one of my least favourites on the album, I just really appreciate it and would not remove it

this
EWBAITE is overrated imo, a lot of the songs are pretty bad. i feel like rivers put a lot more of himself into this album.
>>
>>63702004
Meh. EWBAITE was the comeback and compared to this still feels more deserving of that title. This album isn't a disappointing follow up, just a really mediocre one.

There's some catchy classic Weezer style songs like King of the World, Summer Elaine and Drunk Dori, L.A. Girlz (Suzanne re-write btw) and Do You Wanna Get High. But then a lot of the songs are like weak piano ballads and for some reason that opening song California Kids makes me want to punch the wall.

>>63726536
I don't know man. It's just an album a lot of us have been waiting for from Weezer. I know it's not a 10/10 but it means a lot to us big fans. It's a comforting nostalgic feeling to hear Weezer to kind of dig up the past in a way. They kept their modern pop feeling but successfully integrated the old sound which is what we've all wanted from them for the longest time.
>>
This album is safe as hell. I mean, fuck, it's so samey structurally that 7 out of 10 tracks range from 3:24 to 3:30 in length. It doesn't sound bad (and that's something, I guess) but only L.A. Girlz and, to a lesser degree, King of the World hooked me like so many songs on EWBAITE did. Jacked Up is also nice, at least showing some instrumental imagination, and the closer's melancholy was enjoyable, but neither really do much as a song for me in terms of them going somewhere. Barring the second half of L.A. Girlz, there's nothing here that's as instantly captivating as that little skipped beat in the chorus of Cleopatra or the falsetto in The British are Coming, nor the sheer size of the little 3-part opera at the end or the big album-title refrain at the end of Foolish Father.

After all the shit they put in the 00's it would be insane to call this a letdown, but EWBAITE is the better album by a sizeable margin.
>>
>>63726571
I really felt like it would be an album I could compare to the first two by the way it was hyped here so I am bitterly disappointed. Having said that it's not bad at all just nowhere near the hype.
>>
>>63726588
Yeah I get that. I guess when it comes to Weezer you can't really compare it to the old stuff. Once Matt Sharp left, the sound definitely had a definitive change. But this is probably the second best post Matt Sharp album.

I like Blue and Pinkerton, and I liked EWBAITE a lot too. I think basically everything between those 2 albums is cringeworthy laughable garbage, except some songs off Maladroit and Green. Will I like this?

You're right. The scores should be much, much lower.

I don't understand how anyone could think TGFG is better than DYWGH. TGFG is the only track I don't like and DYWGH is the best song since Pinkerton, followed by LA Girlz
>>
>California Kids
>Thank God for Girls
>(Girl We Got A) Good Thing
>Do You Wanna Get High
>L.A. Girlz, as in, it actually genuinely literally says 'Girlz' with a 'z'

is this tracklist for real? this would be embarrassing if he was 25, but he's fucking 45. dude needs to sort his life out
>>

Reminder that Rivers has loved naming tracks stupid shit to annoy people for literally a decade.
>>
>>63736276
>>63736295
Also, read the lyrics to Do You Wanna Get High, it's not a DUDE WEED LMAO song at all.
>>
>>63736295
You know how ironic shitposting is still shitposting? This is the real life equivalent of that. I doubt it anyway, unless you're going to suggest he's been making shitty songs just to annoy people for literally a decade too?

LA Girlz sounds completely opposite of what you would expect from the title
