I honestly don't know how you could choose just one. All I was getting at about Filosofem was that it seems to be the token black metal album in people's charts, not that it was a bad. The nearly 30 minute ambient track alone eliminates it from GOAT Black Metal album though.
For first wave probably Bathory- s/t or Under the Sign of the Black Mark. But then you also have under looked bands like Root and Master's Hammer.
There is also a surprising amount of diversity in the second wave. I feel like Hvis lyset tar oss did what Filosofem did but better. For more of the pure black metal sound Under a Funeral Moon and A Blaze in the Northern Sky are hard to beat. Then there's Vikingligr veldi off doing it's own thing as well.
I think I'm going to go with A Blaze in the Northern Sky simply because it's the perfect balance of being historically important yet still relevant. When Kathaarian Life Code starts it blasts you in the face with everything black metal is about.

He is incomprehensible, his major two topics are violence and drugs (most notably lean, which is VERY lethal) and is honestly not as innovative as other artists.
