What games have amazing sound tracks / OST's?
Im gonna have to say MGS V has one of the best of all time sound tracks. Metroid / Super metroid has one of the best osts
Shin Megami Tensei
MGSV has a great OST, highly underrated imo.
NieR has one of the best ost's I've heard period, really beautiful stuff like Shadowlord.
LISA has a great one as well, blends a lot of different styles and genres and makes then sound great. Garbage Day is one of my favorites from it, Goodbye Baby and He's My Dad as well.

An obvious choice, given Santaolalla's pedigree. Stunning nonetheless.

The OST is underrated.. or the game?
Because the game is unfinished, you know. They fired the director before it could be completed.
Anyway, Killer 7 had a stellar OST.
/mu/ has terrible taste in games, so they'll only post pure garbage from shallow high-budget games that are basically the equivalent of pop.

well for one i never actually played mgs5 or any of the metal gear games, i just really like the osts. Super metroid also had one of the best sound tracks for a snes game, metroid even more so for the nes.
Low budget games tend to just have chiptunes.
Games like touhou have good music but 1) its stolen 2) Its random 3) it doesnt follow a good structure most of the time
>>63700144
Have to agree with your MGSV sentiment. Just sad how the game actuskly turned out. IMO, Halo also has some very good tracks.
Red dead redemption

Ayyyyy true

>Low budget games tend to just have chiptunes.
This is how I know you've never played a low budget game that wasn't "retro"
Chrono Trigger >>>
>>63700712
You mean ODST, the only good halo game, has some fantastic tracks. Right?
>>63700795
>tend to
>meaning not all
Nice reading comprehension /v/, the most popular low budget/indie games have been heavily retro inspired with pixel art and chip tune

The most popular indie games in general have been made by rich people making shallow garbage that competes with the equally shallow AAA games, you retard. The vidya industry is so fucked up that you have to PAY game media outlets to talk about your game, and they don't ask for a small sum, it's always big money.
You have to have extremely creative marketing schemes in order to get your game popular nowadays, such as Superhot.
Those "indie" games you played aren't indie, at all.
I like a lot of the music featured in Hotline Miami. That sort of retro-wave styled music. Think it has some /Moon/ and MSTRKRFT or something.
>>63700795
most games that are low budget do TEND to. Besides this is a discussion on music, not the game.
>>63700869
most indie is just kickstarter now days, doujin games are where its at
Vanilla Binding of Isaac
>>63700897
Hotline 2 for sure has some Perturbator on there. The first might as well.

Well we're on /mu/ in a thread about video game soundtracks, what do you think?
The games finished too. He actually said it was finished a couple weeks before the rumors came out about him not being with Konami. He clarified too that the one mission that everyone freaked out about was cut a long time ago because they didn't think it belonged in the game.
>>63701291
An ENTIRE CHAPTER is missing from the game, you idiot.
Do licensed soundtracks count?
>>63701187
I prefer the original's MSX-like soundfonts.
Spent quite some time playing the original so it stuck and I never played much of the remake though.
>>63701304
Says who? A picture found in the files? Ooooh how damning. Maybe they made the image and restructured the chapters later so it wasn't needed, maybe mission 51 was just what chapter 3 was considering chapter 1 and 2 aren't exactly an equivalent length. Point is, you don't know. There's no decent reason to suspect that, especially when he said the game was within budget and only a couple months late
>>63701408
According to the evidence that Chapter 2 was rushed as fuck and had far worse writing that chapter 1 with a garbage ending.

>>63701664
ODST was fucking god-tier you filthy plebeian.
Donkey Kong Country OST is GOAT. Especially the water level
>>63701506
Akira Yamaoka is a GOD
Every game with soundtrack made by Jessica Curry (Dear Esther OST is my fav), Kentucky Route Zero, Axiom Verge, Transistor has two versions of OST and both are pretty impressive

honestly every original composition on this is so good and catchy, so much nostalgia from this music https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_4UUHYBVLI
Loved the game, loved the soundtrack. Machinarium was also exceptional
Any Final Fantasy game.

Wat. The ORIGINAL soundtrack was beyond shit. Only songs I remember off it are the Sins of the Father and Quiet's Theme, but that's also due to the fact that I watched and listened to those songs well over 300 times (Sins of the father at least). Licensed music choice was good though. But overall they don't come ANYWHERE near Harry Gregson-Williams fantastic OSTs.
Anyways Crash Bandicoot games had amazing OSTs

what does this actually mean
1) it IS stolen some of the time, gibly works especially
2) jun literally stated he sometimes just writes in japanese into a midi sequencer
3) it has no form so its not listenable for long times
>>63701333
>no respect for the trips
underrated post
This game was one of the things that helped me get into music. Good times.
MGSV has the worst in-game OST out of all Metal Gear games
the only thing it had going for it was the licensed music
this is actually pretty interesting
>>63700144
The soundtrack for MGS V was terrible, what are you talking about? It's just poor imitations of schlock hollywood trailers.
You know they got like a teenage Swedish kid to 95% of the soundtrack right? Kojima blew through the budget and there wasn't enough money to keep people like Rika Muranaka around, or Harry-Gregson or any of the great Japanese composers that have made music for the series in the past. They cut out all middle men and essentially brought a kid with little to no experience on his plate and told him to do 90% of the music himself.
It's a genuinely bad soundtrack, especially if you compare it to the other ones in the series.
>>63704777
He didn't mean the OST but the licensed tracks
>>63704862
The licensed tracks are utilized horribly, with the exception of the intro to the game. It was such a haphazard way to make the game "feel" 80s. They did nothing else to give the game that vibe, it's just the cassettes and music, and not to mention there's music from past 1984 as well. So it was just a bad reminder of how poor the use of setting and time period was in this game.
Sure the music is good, but outside of "The Man Who Sold The World", it contributes absolutely nothing to the game itself. Look at Vice City comparatively, that's a game that uses the soundtrack to strengthen the game world and setting. Hell, look at MGS3 too, the soundtrack, visuals and art design did way more to sell you on that setting than MGSV ever did. It's not like it's a great sin to include these songs on tapes in the game, but all it was to me was a reminder of just how poorly realized everything in that game was. Not used well at all.
>>63704975
Yeah, I agree, but the songs themselves were tastefully chosen.
>>63704777
Yeah i can't believe people are choosing mgsv and it's generic forgettable soundtrack.
>>63700144

>Yes, even 4.
Why wouldn't it? OST is also made by Harry Gregson-Williams.
>>63705805
It's not really great on itself but it's effective for what it's need to do and that makes it work really well. Metal Gear is just a huge schlock fest of pulp spy and scifi concepts and it's amazing if you are into that kind of stuff.
I think the soundtracks capture that feeling very well.
