Modern music would be much better of if rock just never happened.
True or false?

Modern /mu/ would be better if you stopped making this thread
True, "rock music" is terrible and only appeals to assholes who are unable to wipe thier asses properly and love to drink shitty beers.
If rock and roll didn't exist then there's a chance that the fan base would've killed themselves already and that's a good thing.
>>63688934
>>63689037
why are you on /mu/?
most of /mu/ core is rock
No doubt
>noise originated in rock
>use of electronic instruments originated
>album oriented music originated in rock
>independent artists originated in rock
>psychedelic originated in rock
>rock music mended experimental and popular music
And than literally every genre that is a sub genre of rock and all the good records that are labeled as rock.
>>63689092
You say that like its a good thing.
>>63689115
>use of electronic instruments originated
false

>>63689037
So it's a good thing they're not dead?
>>63688934
Music would be more patrician if black people never happened. Everyone would be listening to classy AF germanic stuff like Wagner or Bach, not a syncopation in sight
>>63689118
yes I do, rock is the superior genre
>>63689239
Why do you lie on the internet?
>>63689305
what genres do you like the most?
>>63689414
Thats really not relevant here.
>>63688934
shit would be more entretaining if it was based on samba or balkan folk rather than blues and r'n'b

So you can't defend rock without attacking my choice of music? Yes, I guess it is then, I've no time for discussions with kids.
>>63689521
Meaning, of course, that debilitating challenges to the intellect prohibit you from understanding my posts and you're too scared to face that fact that I'm simply your intellectual superior.
Noted.
Have a nice fucking day.
>>63689521
I can defend rock, but since you said that's not relevant here...
and you haven't even told me your choice of music
>>63689092
All of /mu/core is rock, with the possible exception of 2-3 jazz albums which could be considered /mu/core

>Stylistically, reggae incorporates some of the musical elements of rhythm and blues, jazz, mento (a celebratory, rural folk form that served its largely rural audience as dance music and an alternative to the hymns and adapted chanteys of local church singing),[5] calypso,[6] African music
>>63689739
Stylistically they're very different but reggae's supposed to have originated from jamaican's trying to play American music ie rock
>>63689782
(not true by the way)
>Reggae (/ˈrɛɡeJ/) is a music genre that originated in Jamaica in the late 1960s. The term also denotes the modern popular music of Jamaica and its diaspora.[1] While sometimes used in a broad sense to refer to most types of popular Jamaican dance music, the term reggae more properly denotes a particular music style that was strongly influenced by traditional mento and calypso music, as well as American jazz and rhythm and blues, especially the New Orleans R&B practiced by Fats Domino and Allen Toussaint, and evolved out of the earlier genres ska and rocksteady.[2]
>Ska (/ˈskɑː/, Jamaican [skjæ]) is a music genre that originated in Jamaica in the late 1950s and was the precursor to rocksteady and reggae.[1] Ska combined elements of Caribbean mento and calypso with American jazz and rhythm and blues.

>>63689782
Swap rock for R&B and you're right.
All Jamaican music stemmed from local Calypso and mento styles with R&B and jazz influences.
>>63689739
To be fair, reggae evolved out of ska which shares a lot of the same roots of rock n' roll to the point where, in retrospect, we could basically consider it a genre of rock music, and reggae even more so.
It's pretty anachronistic to say reggae was impossible without rock but it's not exactly wrong.

Nah its this or

>implying syncopation is bad

this if youre a faggot
When I first came to /mu/, /mu/core was only ITAOTS, MPP, Loveless, OKC, Kid A, and MBDTF, and sometimes ITCOTCK. I dunno when fucking Pink Moon and Remain in Light became /mu/core.
Rock is only good when it's fused with other genres in interesting ways. There's a reason the term "dadrock" was coined, it refers to rock music that is incredibly bland and derivative and vapid (Guns N Roses, ACDC, Kiss, Queen, etc.) There is a lot of good rock music, but you have to dig beyond the surface of pop to discover it.

If rock n' roll / rock never happened, ska and reggae still would have. It merely happened at the same time.
