Why that picture of Akita-san? You know he doesn't use his laptop anymore.

Have any of you seen Hijokaidan on their US tour? I saw them in Baltimore. Great show. People were moshing to the fucking JPop group that were with them.

the only noise artists that I know of who subsist mostly off of noise all run record labels.
>>
>>63686886
I think those are fake ratings
>>
>>63686971
no
even the biggest names in the game have day jobs
the few noise artists who have found a way to make a living off of involvement in art either also run highly successful labels, tour all the time, own and run record stores or all of the above

so who are the ones who can live off their music? merzbow i guess, maybe prurient, anyone else?
>>
>>63687167
iirc merzbow has a day job but that info may be out of date or just wrong. I was thinking of fernow and aspa. but especially with aspa he is also pretty big in black metal so he's not just making money off noise
>>
>>63687167
akita writes for magazines and shit, he doesn't make a living off of noise
fernow makes a living off of it but he's not a good example to look at considering all the various other activities he's involved in or has been involved in(the hospital record store/distro, his time with cold cave, the freak success of vatican shadow and all the touring he did in support of it, hospital's several major crossover success periods and so on). if all he had going for him was prurient there's no way he would be able to live off it.
dilloway runs a record store and a highly regarded label/distro.
so does ron lessard.
so does mikko aspa(though in his case i'm pretty certain that his record store and the northern heritage label/distro are what allows him to not have to take up a "proper" job, not freak animal).
>>
>>63686971
I remember trying to make harsh noise for some time. Never thought of making any money, I would be glad if I found some audience at least
>>

Mikko Aspa also makes mad bank in Deathspell Omega, right?
>>
>>63686392
I was there. Had a good time. Birth Defects and Jeff Carey were great as well.

Those moshers were fucking annoying. I got bashed into by one of them who was wearing a face mask like some weeb. It was an interesting crowd.
>>
>>63687669
>I got bashed into by one of them who was wearing a face mask like some weeb
Ha, I was right next to that dude.
>>
>>63687552
i doubt it, especially considering that DSO never have and most likely never will go on a tour.
i can't imagine deathspell omega have sold more than a few dozen thousand records(and even that might be an overestimate) throughout their existence, and the bulk of that money usually goes to the people involved with the manufacturing and release of those records. split whatever is leftover for the band between however many members they have(and i doubt there's less than 4 of them) and you don't end up with much.

>>63703146
this isn't really the thread for this
we discuss noise, industrial, power electronics etc here, you should look for those noise rock/shoegaze threads
>>
>>63686886
I contacted Lust Vessel and have a tape and cd copy on the way. If any anons down under want a cd, I can hook you up once I get some distro copies sent over.
>>
>>63699596
I'm not convinced you actually care about noise as much as you do the image associated with it. The hometown compilation was fine and guess what newfag, we'd been sharing our own noise and discussing making comps since these threads started. You know what actually killed these threads? People like you who are insecure and think you know what noise " means" when you just sit here and jerk off about the same artists without any actual discussion. You don't care about noise.
>>
>>63699842
>meant to be anti-music

Please stop with this shit. The people who think noise has a singular agenda are almost as bad as the tape label elitist s.
>>
>>63704358

Well he's not wrong, though it is a fairly narrow view of noise. It has become more than simply anti-noise, or the musical equivalent of dadaism, though there are very much still people who thrive in creating this kind of reading of noise. It's not wrong, just somewhat shallow
>>
>>63704538
By the assumption of the genre in general encapsulating this sentiment, he IS wrong. I understand the history of noise and I understand the initial motivations of some of Europe and Japan's key players. Regardless, attaching this label to all of noise narrows its value down and neglects to mention the aural importance of noise in its production, composition, and sound, thus giving the anti-bandcamp wannabes more fuel. I don't attach myself to this medium because of an art movement or a statement - I actually listen to the stuff.
>>
>>63704999

Very true, this is what I was getting at when I said its become more than just anti-music. Those of us who actively consume noise generally wont care too much about noise posted on such sites. That being said, some of my favourite stuff has been found on random soundclouds and blogspot pages, or even just linked here. I've always maintained the position that a good visual aesthetic which compliments the music is paramount to getting your stuff noticed.

For the record I've never heard of any tape label elitists, though I definitely see a preference towards this medium among noise makers and listeners, for better or worse.
>>
if you think noise has any philosophy at all you are a pretentious fuckwit.

>>63705302
>though I definitely see a preference towards this medium among noise makers and listeners, for better or worse.

tapes and home-recording noise artists/labels have a long history together, it's only natural
CD-Rs were getting pretty popular throughout the 2000s, up to the point where some people thought they might replace tapes as the go-to affordable DIY friendly format for releases, but they seem to have died off for the most part

>>63705814
if you think it doesn't have a philosophy you're absolutely clueless regarding the genre's history or the ideas behind it

>there is no meaning

No, you're just ignoring whatever meaning is ascribed by the artist, as well as the fact that no meaning is a meaning in itself. One of the cornerstones of post-modern art is the rise of the audience in creating meaning
>>
one of these threads' biggest problem is the insecurity of the people posting in them about how knowledgeable they are about this shit and the way that said insecurity manifests itself in the way they humor each and every epic memer or dilettante that comes through trying to irritate them or beg for spoonfeeding
learn to ignore these fucking people

No, nobody posts about anything. Nobody discusses anything. It's share this, I like this artist that we've talked about before, and a random bandcamp link once in a blue moon without any identification of who they are, why they're doing what they're doing, what they like, etc.. When people here actually start talking about noise, these threads will be "good".

>>
>>63717703
the way i remember it, the most decent phases of this general were when it was just the same bunch of people talking noise with nothing else

the more complicated things got with activities beyond chat or with people beyond that (now largely departed, unfortunately) crew showing up and asking to be spoonfed or asking the same questions which a google search would answer for the 50th time or to shove their first time fucking around in audacity in everyone's faces, the more tense and shitty these threads tended to become
>>
>>63717876

i know how much glorious nipponoise tugs on your weeb heartstrings, but BLJ is the quintessential live noise unit(at least as long as there's people onstage who know what they're doing, which i'm sure was the case this time as it was an austin show) and TEF can bring it like not many others in that particular field of noise

i've listened to plenty of it
their novelty music is shit that gets old after one listen at best
their "serious" music or "sound art" is beyond banal

it's a shitty band that gets by more on its mythology than the quality of its output, i don't know why that's something worth getting so upset over
>>
for those of you who produce your noise using synthesizers: what synths do you use? What is your process like? I'm looking for synths $500 or under.

how can a general exist for 2 years and have its posters remain just as ignorant as they started out as being?
how can a general exist on the basis of like 10 people posting the same 10 albums over and over and never saying anything worth saying about them?

I haven't seen any recent pictures of him. What does he look like now?
>>
>>63721139
Oh buddy trust me, i've been there

Mohr stuff is practically impossible to find, except for a split with Maeror Tri and a 90s 7" record

I remember that the other stuff i could find was on rutracker.

Someone compiled all the releases from an 80s industrial label and uploaded there, so to find it you need to go on discogs, find mohr's labels and research then on rutracker

It's your best shot, good luck

Same old impotent complaining with no effort to make things better. Congratulations on making /noise/ 10 times worse with every post.
>>
>>63727720
This, idc if you said "you made efforts before", honestly all the "noise is shit" posts are shitposts at this point.

Does somebody have the new Jason Crumer?

Who /poshisolation/ and /northernelectronics/ here?
>>
>>63729851
you european?
>>
>>63729982
>/poshisolation/

not a fan
there was always something about them that felt weirdly careerist and manufactured, not to mention way too heavily focused on building and maintaining an image
the way they seem to operate solely by latching onto one temporary trend after the other based on the audience which they're trying their best to attract(raw black metal and power electronics in the early days when the fans of those genres were the only ones paying attention, techno, synthpop and Wire writer-baiting"academic" electronic music now that they're going for some sort of haphazard crossover into more profitable and "respectable" waters) always really bugged me as well

their output is pretty middling as well, technically well-made but way too derivative and devoid of an individual flavor. just the new puce mary(and puce mary in general) sounds like a record that could have come on tesco or CMI back in like 1997
i can't imagine anyone giving a shit about any of these releases 20 years from now.

>/northernelectronics/

that's a techno label though, innit?
most of the things that bug me about PI bug me about NE as well though i admit to not being nearly as familiar with their output as i am with PI's

the shit varg is doing feels like a chinese knockoff version of dozzy

Any label/compilation recommendations?
>>
>>63730553
more recent ones or in general?
>>
>>63724721
Should be as simple as running it through an interface into your computer

>>63703876
Can you rip the cd and bonus tape when it arrives? I wanna hear both but I'm flat broke.
>>
How do i release my musix? I dont want to go down the bandcamp sound cloud path, and im not sure performing noise is a thing so idk
>>
>>63730976
>and im not sure performing noise is a thing

huh
>>
>>63731103
well mainly where i am, i have no idea what sort of place you'de perform noise. If its acoustic, folk etc you go the local bar / tavern, if its edm you ask the clubs if you can dj etc. Im not sure about noise though, uni campus maybe?
>>
>>63731138
>Im not sure about noise though, uni campus maybe?
The basement of a local degenerate
>>
>>63731423
Exactly my point Cynthia, it's a very abstract genre, that even though my compositions have proper form I feel as if they would fail to attract any crowd. Thats the problem with noise, I think the stuff I made you need to listen to what isnt there.

I think Ill go back to dj'ing at the club and playing my shitty tracks and big name tracks.
>>
>>63731581
If you're only trying to attract a crowd, you're not getting into noise for the right reasons.
>>
>>63731616
No of course not, Joe.

It's not about attracting a crowd, my concern is with getting my music out so that people have the opportunity to listen to it. I still have the issue of not knowing where to perform live.

I think Ill just upload to mediafire and drop the link somewhere
>>
>>63731714

why would you use mediafire? just use bandcamp/soundcloud like a normal person and figure out which city nearest to you has noise shows and start going to them
>>
>>63730169
yes
>>
>>63731138
Art galleries and record stores sometimes put on Noise shows.
>>
>>63735141

who know who else do? people with soundclouds and bandcamps or facebook
