This is so much fucking better than I expected it to be. Plebs listen to this? I'm honestly surprised.
>>63681281
Plebs don't listen to it anymore
>>63681287
I know a few personally.
Sonically it's overwhelming how advanced it still sounds now, this is like the era of ace of base but it basically hasn't dated a day soundwise.

Yeah, unlike most other popular industrial metal from that time, this album sounds like it could be out today and wouldn't sound particularly "old"
yeah, for a minute Reznor was the Bowie of the 90s.
One thing to note, though, is that the most popular songs on the album are the least challenging and interesting. Reptile is crushingly powerful industrial in an almost Neubauten way, but nobody seems to listen to it. They're usually not interested in the percussive experiment of Piggy (which calls to mind industrial pioneer Z'EV), or the sound experiments of Eraser or the title track. Nope, the popular songs are the dance pop song Closer (which, admittedly, is a great track), and the bland punky song March of the Pigs (which is kinda awful)
>>63681835
It's not really the quality of production so much as it is the style of the production.
Trent avoided instruments with tropes that would give it a specifically 'dated' sound.
>>63681998
>March of the Pigs

"no"
Which Halo was this senpai?

Also, I don't think there are many people that use this board that are near 40.
>>63682174
It was worthy of teen angst during the 90s

Unless your career pertains to music in some way, what are you doing here instead of worrying about paying bills, raising children, and stressing to the point of hair-loss ?
>>63682521
>Unless your career pertains to music in some way
Just answered your own question
>>63681281
I honestly am surprised /mu/ doesn't really talk about it, it's a great album
>>63682563
It's constantly posted and discussed though

That doesn't look like Lonerism

But...I think March of the Pigs is good...
The Becoming is my favorite song
Production is great, Reznor's lyrics, not so much

looking for fresh rec's and laughing at errors of young generation.
This said Downward spiral was one of the best thinga I remember from high school, listen to it to this day. But I stopped after the Fragile though.
>>63682417
36 here.
what happens is you stop listening to new music because you dont have time with work and bills and kids and then you lose ability to lay back and listen to an album or sort through it to discover the tracks that speak to you.
You end up just falling back on the stuff that makes you feel good because it was playing during a positive memory or because you know it and it can help you zone out from the day to day grind.
you really lose the will and drive to expand yourself as life drags you along, it becomes a fight to push forward and continue growing.
also the venues and how music is consumed has changed so much and there is so much available its hard to sort it all out, especially when all you had to do was go to national record mart and look through a small smattering of new releases.
be warned youngfags

35 year old anon here. This is the truth.
>>63684684
31 and it has happened. I used to listen to everything I could get my hands on, now I stick to the albums that I found most interesting or emotional from that time. Granted I found noise, drone, and all forms of avant funk jazz rock and electronica from the 60s to mid 2000s, so I had at to digest. But I don't care about keeping up with new stuff anymore
>>63684684
so much truth n this words, it hurts...

This is why I want to write music reviews for a living.

Literally the only tracks worth listening to.

>>63681998
>March of the Pigs

Nah.
Trent has said that he primarily likes experimental music, but when he goes to write songs, they always end up in a pop format. Which is basically what NIN is: pop songs created with experimental sounds
>>63685104
>his somewhat decent Hurt cover

Don't even start with that shit.
You know it's a Cash song, TR will tell you it's a Cash song (look up any interviews from around the time the video got big), it's a Cash song, period.
>>63685246
>it's a Cash song, period.
Doesn't work that way. Trent wrote it, it's a song made by Trent. It's irrelevant if he thinks Cash made it his own, he's still the creative mind behind the song.
>>63685281
>Trent wrote it
[citation needed]
>>63685246
He still wrote the song
In no way is it a "cover"
>>63685246
>implying that because Reznor claims that Cash did it better that it makes it not a cover

Nine Inch Nails is one of the few artists that can be enjoyed by people with bad or good taste alike.
It's really a good album and Trent is a great artist. Only weak thing about him are his lyrics. But they are generally good if you can look past their edginess.
>>63681998
March of the Pigs is mental live
>>63686084
Generally good on this album I mean. Compare it to Pretty Hate Machine, lyrics there are cringeworthy sometimes. Downward Spiral is a huge step up.
>>63686110
it's the low point of every single show, you can tell literally everyone's sick of the MOTP/Piggy section, Trent included
>>63686175
Probably. It's a crowd favorite, they must be sick of playing Hurt as well.
I'm listening to TDS right now as we speak.
Currently at I Do Not Want This which is the worst song the album imo.
>>63686434
The last two minutes of that song are great.

Trent Reznor is one of the best industrial producers of all time but his lyrics are "good enough" at best and "even an emo middle-schooler at Hot Topic would find this too tryhard" at worst
