rec me some good bebop /mu/
also, jazz general
>>63679130
You've probably heard this one before but IMO it's one of Parker's most beautiful solos.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HOoZ6zo8HAQ
why does /mu/ hate jazz so much
>>63679283
>implying
Why should everyone like jazz? Don't you think life would be dull if we all liked the same thing?
>>63679319
>Why should everyone like jazz?
Because it's good
pls rec me something like dancing in your head
>>63679283
/jazz/ is a slow general because no one on /mu/ really listens to it outside of a few classics.
I'm not a fan of bebop too much, but the last record I heard was by jazz accordianist Frank Marocco, which was the "Be-bop Buffet". It was decent but I probably won't listen to it in the future.
>>63679988
On top of this, posting charts in /jazz/ helps a lot of newcomers, just because of the many different styles of jazz and its long history and lack of popular discussion make it seemingly difficult to enter, similar to some people who have little experience with metal wanting to get into the genre.
On top of that, the best way to use these threads is to open up a new tab and browse other boards/threads and check back every 15-20 minutes. Seriously, these threads move slower than traditional threads even when hampy is spamming links and charts
>>63679988
I'd say that jazz discussions on /mu/ are more varied than other genres with the /blindfold/s and all where the same albums and bands are discussed daily
so, /jazz/, what the fuck is with the way anthony braxton titles his compositions? just... why?
and whats your fave braxton album?
>>63680248
I would agree, but that still doesn't cahnge that fact that jazz threads are really slow.
I've been spamming this for the past few weeks in the odd jazz thread, but Walter Wanderlys Rain Forest is a very good Bossa Nova abum and is very relaxing. If anyone is looking to explore south American/bossa nova, this album would be a very god place to start, IMO
>>63681872
You mean like this shit?
>B-X° / N O I 47ᴬ
What're you listening to right now?
listening to some Kenny Barron after likening him on last week's blindfold test.
anybody have any favorite albums by him?
>>63682023
One of my all time favorites actually.
>>63682023
Great pick.
Not listening to jazz right now. But I've listened to this recently and I dig it.
What other Coleman Hawkins records do you guys dig?
>>63681872
always found it weird
as well as the album titles, most of the time is trio/quartet/quintet/etc (place) year
>>63681872
>what the fuck is with the way anthony braxton titles his compositions?
I don't know... It's not really any worse than how every fusion band's song titles are something like "Memories of Tomorrow" or shit like that
>>63682175
Hawkins! Alive! At the Village Gate is a really good live record of his. The stuff he did with Webster is cool too.
>>63682054
Barron's not the leader here but he's great on this one
>>63682276
Yeah, I've been wanting to check the collab with Webster but I figured I'd listen to that one first.
Also noted alive at the village gate.
>>63681964
yes, what the fuck?
i kind of love it but mostly fucking abhor it.
>>63682066
Nice!
>>63682023
saw this cover posted in a /jazz/ thread a while ago, interested me enough to see what was inside. i was expecting some just chaotic noise but it's actually really good. there's some vocal parts that bring it down but it's actually kind of funny and chill
shoji aketawaa - Shudan Seikatsu
if yer interested
>>63682496
Yeah this album cover really, really makes him look like he wants to break his piano.
Although listening to a bit of it on YT now, it's nice. Good share anon.
>>63682496
Aketagawa is a nice pianist, you should check out pic related if you're interested in him. It's mostly blues and japanese folk rather than jazz but it has some wonderful playing. There's a few more rare (like most of his stuff) albums on the archive though it's likely you saw them already.
>>63682496
>listening to good jazz album
>3 of the tracks have shitty vocals that ruin the track
>the rest is really good
why do artists do this?
Hey speaking of crazy jazz, have anyone of you head this Albert the list goes on Ayler recording? I've heard it's really good and I got FLAC of it.
>>63682496
>>63682588
Actually the album I uploaded by him is gone. If you want me to mega it I can later, as I'm leaving soon. You could get it from soulseek also, as I'm leaving my computer on and I'm sharing it there.
>>63682588
>>63682636
ITT: Post Crazy and interesting jazz
>>63682590
the longer pieces don't have vocals at all so it kind of evens it out, one of the pieces is closer to flamenco and is still really nice but the other two are just kind of atonal yelping
>>63682554
if you give me a minute i can pop up the whole album on mega
>>63682588
i actually nabbed mine off soulseek but i dug this album enough to seek out some more, i'll definitely look into this one though m8, cheers
>>63682662
yeah that sounds great man, what's yer soulseek name? I'm NoveltyCondom

This week's theme is bossa nova
>>63682054
>>63682066
Nice. I've been checking out the Fred Hersch one. It's long but really good.
>>63682716
I shall be there
>>63682664
Alkebu-Lan: Land of the Blacks - Live at the East is p cool
>>63682694
~Smurmelade
maybe you're not able to browse me because I'm a dumbfuck and have some ports closed I think, if so, I'll up after coming back, going to the movies now
>>63682716
seconded
>>63682716
Bossa nova is not my favorite but I will check it out. I didn't think I would like the piano trios last week either but some of the tracks ended up being pretty good.
Anyone knows any album that is similar to pic related? I'm not only drawn to the intensity and energy of the whole album, but also the cohesiveness of the songs which makes it sound like a concept album.

>Alkebu
Good pick.
>>63682767
>>63682843
Thanks for the recs. I'll go "know myself out" now.
>>63682839
It doesn't have the energy and intensity that black Saint does, it's much more subtle but it has probably an even more cohesive feel.
>>63682870
No problem, have fun "knocking". :^)
>>63682887
Thanks for the rec! I've been listening to Aranjuez on repeat but haven't given a fair chance to the rest of the album. You're right, though, it is in some ways more cohesive than Black Saint.
But Black Saint, man, oh my god. Mingus is such a master of building up tension and creating conclusions that pay off well (That build up in Solo Dancer to the orgasmic release at 2:36 always gets me). In so many ways, that album alone destroyed my perception on how jazz should sound, and Mingus made it in as early as 1964!
>>63682023
Aye,
does anyone have a quality rip of this album?
All the archive links are dead?
Cheers /jazz/
>>63683363
Sorry for being so late anon. This should have a bonus track. Have fun.
