I've recently gotten into Post Rock quite a bit. This genre get's a lot of flac for being pretentious and so on but I'm not fussed.

The hardest part about listening to this genre is finding new albums to listen to that get put under that label. It is a largely varying genre.

I've listened to Godspeed, (current) Swans, Sigur Ros, Slint, Mogwai and so on and I don't know where to go next.

Suggestions?

So far you're doing good my man

Give A Silver Mt. Zion and Set Fire a Flames a try. Similar to Godspeed (both bands share members with Godspeed) but yet vastly different

>This genre get's a lot of flac for being pretentious
well yeah

what other bitrate would pretentious twats want their music in?

:^)

but seriously, check out some Talk Talk if you haven't because they're essential

Someone crop out all that garbage at the bottom
>>
Tortoise in my opinion is the least "pretentious" group of the genre. Try Millions Now Living... and TNT.

Other favorites are Bark Psychosis' "Hex" (has a Laughing Stock vibe to it) and Disco Inferno's "D.I. Go Pop (lots of sampling)
>>
>>63678398
I like Mt. Zion but haven't really listened to Fire a Flames much. I will get into them.
>>
Remember that most third wave is generic crescendocore even though there's some good ones too
>>
>>63678459
Tortoise are easily THE most pretentious post-rock group kek
>>63678463
Do so, it's like F#A# but more field recordings, odd instumentation and way less crescendoes
>>63678471
The second half is pretty off but the first half is correct
>>
>>63678434
I've listened to all of the first wave and most of the second, don't really like most of the third :/
>>
>>63678491
Damn I gotta say that's some good taste
Third wave is really shit so not liking it is a good thing
>>
>>63678456
>>63678491
you passed the test anons
now you are ready to shitpost about how post-rock sucks now
>>
>>63678514
Thanks babe. Most of the third wave is just bands taking the most generic sense of what post rock is and executing it poorly with no flavour
>>
>>63678485

>Tortoise are easily THE most pretentious post-rock group kek

How?
>>
>>63678541
We literally just said we enjoyed all post-rock except third wave you stupid crescendoshit
Learn to read
>>63678543
Np famo
>>63678544
They're really self-indulgent and make themselves out to be more than just a mellow post-krautrock group
>>
>>63678485
I'd say most of the third wave are the pretentious ones...
>>
>>63678572
I don't think they feel that way, not like GY!BE and related bands. Anyway, filtered
>>
>>63678586
Definitely, although if we're talking good post-rock Tortoise are the most pretentious out of them. Still good though
>>63678603
Wew
GY!BE don't make themselves out to be more than just a group of leftist libs making protest music, don't see why anyone calls them pretentious
>>
>>63678610
Tortoise are great. The only album I might say I like from the third wave is that Explosions in the Sky album, but I wouldn't say that I love it
>>
>>63678642
I honestly really hate EITS, they rip off Godspeed and then make post-rock a genre that's no better than top 40 pop
>>
>>63678572
I was complimenting you dickface
>>
I still don't see how Tortoise is pretentious
>>
>>63678665
That was a compliment? Huh, sorry I guess
>>63678674
I already said they're a little bit pretentious in a genre that's really not that pretentious at all when you ignore all the crescendoshit
>>
>>63678663
I love Godspeed a lot, Explosions in the sky is very similar stylistically, but they do have their moments. But yeah they do rip off Godspeed of sometimes.

GY!BE and ASMZ think of themselves as punk rock. They pretty much influenced post-rock without even trying.
>>
>>63678833
That's what I was gonna say...
>>
>>63678897
They think of themselves as protest bands against the music industry and capitalist society. So yeah punk rock

Listen to more new Swans.
>>
>>63679323
Haha I can't, I have a signed copy of To Be Kind, and I have the Seer. Both of which I have listened to multiple times. Swans are one of my all time favourites, including their 80s and 90s output.
>>
>>63679348
then listen to them louder
