ITT: the five most essential albums in every genre.

I'll start, hiphop:
>illmatic
>straight outta compton
>the low end theory
>the college dropout
>madvillainy
>>
>>63643784
hip hop could also be

>Straight Outta Compton
>The Chronic
>Doggystyle
>Illmanic
>GKMD
>>
I'd replace College Dropout and Straight Outta Compton with possibly Paul's Boutique and It Takes a Nation of Millions To Hold Us Back.
>>
>>63643784
>madvillainy
no
>>
prog:
itcotck
close to the edge
brain salad surgery
the power and the glory
the civil surface
>>
Post rock:
>F#A#infinity
>Agaetis Byrjun
>Laughing Stock
>Hex
>Spiderland
>>
Hardcore:
>damaged
>fresh fruit
>minor threat complete discography
>bad brains
>zen arcade
>>
Black metal:
>Det som engang var by Burzum
>Sunbather by Deafheaven
>Destroyer by KISS
>De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas by Mayhem
>The Amazing Jeckel Brothers by Insane Clown Posse
>>
>>63643889
why not?
>>
>>63644148
>excluding EITS
you can't be that contrarian, can you? there's a reason why they're so popular
>>
Grindcore
>Scum
>Drop Dead
>World Downfall
>The Inalienable Dreamless
>Reek of Putrefaction
>>
>>63644347
>essential albums
they dont add anything GY!BE doesnt have, they may be popular but that doesnt make them essential.
>>
>>63643784

brutal death metal:

>Paranoid
>Master of Puppets
>Back in Black
>The Festering Crypt
>Falling in Reverse's cover of Gangsta's Paradise
>>
>>63644347
hey, i'm not hating on EITS, but they're not that good. I wouldn't put in a top 5
>>
>>63644404
haha fuck everyone
>>
>>63643784
definitely someone who isnt actually into hip hop
>>
>>63644425

This line of music really extended the genre of black metal to new heights of brutality. Before this, brutal death metal only addressed a "I dislike this particular person" attitude, but fuck *everyone*!? That is very inappropriate and mean, and it is easy to see why this has shocked people and made the cover a staple of brutal death metal.
>>
>>63644498
nice observation, time for an auto?
>>
>>63643936
>Emerson Lake and Palmer
lolno
>the power and the glory
I think you meant octopus
>>
REAL TALK:

Do you have to be cuckold to fully understand rap music?
>>
>>63644347
They've never made an album better than those five nor have they really revolutionized the post rock genre. I don't even hate them. But it's okay, you can label anything you don't understand as contrarianism.
>>
>>63643845
Except for most of those are west coast hip hop, where's the variety?
>>
>>63644562
No you have to be the bull.
>>
>>63644312
Underrated b8
>>
Post Punk:

Hex Enducation Hour
Entertainment!
Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me
Closer
Script of the Bridge
>>
>>63643784
>>63643845
>faggots

It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back

whatever else is nice, but not essential

Good music:
>Mozart
>Back
>Bethoven
>Chopin
>Tchaikovsky

U propably don't even know them u fcking beliebers. I wish i was born in 50'
>>
>>63644638
I mean there's other essentials but that is possibly the most obvious one that they miss. Even though hip hop is the only black music /mu/ ever talks about, it's pathetic how little they know about it
>>
>>63644635
I'd put Pornography instead, maybe Marquee Moon or Metal Box instead of Entertainment
>>
alt rock;
>Is this it?
>Kid A
>To be kind
>Spiderland
>Lonerism
(This is kind of a general term)
>>
>>63643784
Hip Hop should be like this
>It Take a Nation Of Millions (classic era)
>Illmatic (90s era)
>Stankonia (2000s era)
>MBDTF (early 2010s)
>GKMC (NOW)
>>
>>63644268
I'd replace Fresh Fruit with Plastic Surgery Disasters
>>
Hip Hop:
36 Chambers
Illmatic
ITANOMTHUB
Paul's Boutique
Fear of a Black Planet
>>
>>63644772
best one so far. i would put paid in full somewhere maybe
>>
>>63644651
Idontgetit
>>
>>63644723
I mean the only thing those have in common is that they're 1) not poprock 2) made after 1990.

Is This It is more indie rock, TBK and Spiderland are post-rock, and Lonerism is neo-psychedelia.
>>
>>63643936
so much better Canterbury than Egg
>>
>>63644651
What a desperate attempt at being funny. Contribute or get the fuck out, faggot.
>>
>>63644723

thats a fucking mess of a list for Alt Rock. First remover shitty is this It for the far superior Funeral from that era.

Swap To Be Kind for The Queen is Dead. To be Kind is good, but wouldnt fit it in alternative
>>
>>63643784

>Pharcyde Bizzare Ride II
>>

>crass - feeding of the 5000
>rites of spring - rites of spring

>titus Andronicus - the airing of grievances
>dead kennedys - plastic surgery disasters

>>
>>63645034

>>
>>63644905

>>
>>63644772
>>63644788

>>63645371
An """""intro"""""" to hiphop must be mostly from 80s-90s since the genre was at its peak at the time. And you won't understand an art without knowing how it originated.

I don't know if a single one of these albums is alt rock

what meme?

British folk

>Pentangle - Basket of Light
>Nic Jones - Penguin Eggs
>Fairport Convention - Liege and Lief
>Anne Briggs - Fire and Wine

>>
>>63646090
You should have included Cat Stevens.
>>
>>63645330
>LoFi
>No Ariel Pink

Prog Rock
>Close To The Edge
>In The Court Of The Crimson King
>Octopus
>Selling England By The Pound
>Thick As A Brick
>>
>>63643784
Illmatic is probably the most overrated hip-hop album ever, Straight Outta Compton is second.
>>
>>63646245
Yeah I can't get into illmatic personally
>>
>>63643936
>the civil surface
No one's heard of that. No one listens to that. Even though it gets plenty of attention, Dark Side of the Moon is still definitely an essential prog album for people who have never heard prog rock.
>>
>>63646324
It does have a few nice tracks but it's heralded as a godly album and the best of it's genre, it's too far from that.
Big L did everything better than Nas.
>>
Well this is a bit hard with only 5 but OK.

>Blues rock:
LA Woman - Doors (could be any doors album though)
Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin
Are you experienced - Jimi Hendrix Experience (Though electric ladyland is great too)
Disraeli Gears - Cream
Pearl - Janis Joplin for something a little different?
>>
>>63645330
>Slanted and Enchanted
>ITAOTS
>The Glow Pt. 2
>All Hail West Texas
>Twin Fantasy

inb4 being called will

Any noise rock albums? I only know Lightning Bolt and Afrirampo.
>>
>>63647008
Big Black - Atomizer
Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation
Lightning Bolt - Wonderful Rainbow
Melt-Banana - Cell-Scape
Les Rallizes Dénudés - '77 Live
>>
>>63643936
>>63645231

Where the fuck is Amon Duul II - Yeti in your prog lists?
>>
>>63645427
Nigga nobody wants to listen to a bunch of dusty shit as an intro to hip hop. I'd say those 5 are good for introducing someone to hip hop.
