I very much agree but when theres a popstar whose entire pop personality is just how much she masturbates and how much she can ironically appropriate British dialect into her interviews for the "qtt" factor then I think it's allowed
>>
what happened to my thread
>>
>>63636103
>entire pop personality is how much she masturbates

I mean, she's more open about that part but I never felt that was the only aspect of her personality as an artist or a person

Hell, only Vespertine really focuses on that theme; most of her other albums (when they are based around singular concepts) are based around other things. I can't speak for her in terms of interviews but I doubt she's trying to forge some sort of persona there either

The real question is: why we don't have any female artists today that can reach near the half of Bjork?
>>
>>63636972
Because geniuses can't be reached by anyone, neither by other geniuses of their own, simple. They are unique in a way that makes them unclassifiable, at the point where the culture period in which they are can only take influence or inspiration.

>>63637227
Absolutely.

In answer to >>63636972, for example, I find M.I.A. to be similarly inspirational in her creativity, and how she retains her sense of self in so many styles, and how her creativity extends beyond music into fashion, visual art, videos etc. I love that, and I think it all applies to Bjork too. But their actual works are extremely different, despite M.I.A. and Bjork being good friends, and big fans of each other's work. I think the best artists have a singular, though flexible, voice that can manifest itself in all sorts of ways. The Bjork of Vulnicura sounds/looks (and I'm not talking about age) different from Volta Bjork, but it's all distinctly Bjork. Not many artists have that all encompassing creativity, and for the ones that do I'd called them 'genius'.

>inb4 sperging out about M.I.A.
You probably have other artists you rate similarly highly, and that's cool. Just giving my opinion on things :')

I feel inspired and also motivated in searching people like her when I see such polyhedral attitude as she got. I believe it has to do with the native country too. Usually, most of the popular artists we know come from the same countries, generally America and Europe. When a new artist is native of a foreign and exotic place we still don't know anything about, culturally and artistically (like in the case of Iceland, which is a place out of the world), that artist may bring a lot of unique new things. The place where we come from is always a factor of what we do I think.

Björk is one of the greatest minds of the contemporary scene in which to art is concerned.
She has the ability to combine pure poetry, perfectly executed melodies, visual accompaniments video that fit perfectly with each idea of what the songs represent, and last but not least, a unique voice that comes deep inside you and touches your inner senses like you never experienced before, as it has been for me the first time I listened to her.

This. Though rlly drastic statement, Grimes is writing and producing her own shit, and it is unique as fuck. Look back at Bjork's first few releases, like, Debut, it's not too far from Grimes' Art Angels. Grimes has tons of potential and room for growth as an artist. Mad respect to her for not being a woma who just makes what everyone tells her to. Also, she's not selling her sex for attention. She's all about the art in music she's bae.
>>
>>63642077
como?
>>63642364
>not thinking volcanoes are sublime and beautiful and utterly awesomeeeeeeeee
>>
>>63642730
The difference between them is Bjork started off pop and drifted further away from it every release. Grimes is getting poppier with every release. Their trajectories do not line up.
>>
>>63642049
Not yet, Newsom and Holter are great though.

>>63642730
>"Also, she's not selling her sex for attention. She's all about the art in music she's bae."

>Implying Bjork sells her sex for attention.
>Implying Bjork is not all about the art in music.

Please go away. I don't even think you really know the subject of your argument.

>"Debut, it's not too far from Grimes' Art Angels"

Yes, from saying by your own words, probably Grimes is doing today what pratically Bjork already did in 1993. But with no internet hype or any meme helping her to get popularity.
>>
>>63643022
Bjork started off being a punk in multiple bands, with zero popularity, zero money and no financial connection outside Iceland. Way hard to begin any career.
>>
>>63643022
You forgot that Bjork had another career with The Sugarcubes before Debut, Post, and the other albums.

>Bjork's work with Sugarcubes -> Lethe, Geidi Primes, Halfaxa, Darkbloom
>Debut -> Visions
>Post -> Art Angels.

Grimes didn't make her Homogenic yet.

>Grimes is getting poppier with every release.
So far, yes. But I'm willing to bet that her next album will be different than anything she's done before. She even started learning guitar and hopefully other instruments.
>>
>>63643295
>Post -> Art Angels.
LMAOING AT YOUR LIFE
>>
>>63643278
Same for Grimes. She started with zero money and zero connections. Read more about her beginnings and you'll see that Grimes is basically a self-taught/self-sustaining musician.
>>
>>63643278
Bjork was heavily promoted by her record label starting with her Debut album, tho. Grimes didn't have even 1/10 of her bugdet.
>>
>>63643357
>self-sustaining
bruh why are you talking about a human being like she's a 16th century monastery
>>
>>63643325
Post is half great, half average. Art Angels is all great except California and Belly of the Beat which are just average.
>>
>>63643161
nope, you're misinterpreting me. I said that to show the similarity between the two, not to imply that bjork sells her sex for attention. Neither of them do. Bjork's use of nudity just correlates with her icelandic-mother-nature-flow, it's pretty clear she's not just trying to be cute.
also, don't pretend at the time of Debut, that Bjork had LESS access to publicity than grimes. If you want to talk about that, why not bring up Vulnicura , or even Biophilia, which was released as a fucking app. Great app though. Bjork has achieved a status of fame that's mind boggling, she's already had a fucking retrospective at the MoMA. She's got connections. She's so celebrated, and I'm not saying at all that she doesn't deserve it.
I don't think some people on the internet realize that grimes is literally not a meme outside of 4chan.
Also your tone is silly, y not discuss shit regularly instead of "wah I wanna disagree with you go awayy" ugly ass /mu/ lmao
>>
>>63643427
I like that expression. When Grimes is making her music all by herself (even production and covers) and doesn't depend on anyone, that it's kind of self-sustaining.

Bjork got that app made at her own behest to enhance the 3D representation of Biophilia. It isn;t like her label was shilling her app on the appstore.

She got the MOMA exhibition because she's Bjork and she had a body of work behind her that deserved such recognition. When an artist is that deep into their career, their fame is largely self cultivated.
>>
>>63643671
And she didn't even want to make that exhibition originally, she has been eluding Klaus Bisenbanch since 2001, he asked her to make the thing multiple times after accepting.
>>
>>63642077
M.I.A. it takes upon herself the burden to disrupt the many converging systems of injustice in this world with her art and activism, and in this struggle she displays herself as a human being, complete with flaws and imperfections. A fraud, though? Nope, far from it.
>>
Underrated track. Should of been on the album ffs

>>63643295
Are you for real dude? What even are the musical connections between the Sugarcubes and Grimes?

You're out of mind and forcing yourself, Bjork and Grimes are by essence two different artists. It would be more appropriate comparing her to FKA Twigs at least, they're also on the same generation besides. Bjork is an artist with 40 years of career into music, Grimes came out just 6 years ago. It's like comparing Arca to Autechre in terms of depth and dimension, it just doesn't make sense.
