Try and post samples of albums not discussed to death on /mu/ so people can actually discover new music

good call, homegirl.

here's a sample of Damien Jurado's album:

Oh shit I need to listen to Chthe'illist
How was it? I heard it's some pretty cool caverncore stuff
And how's the new Obscura album?
>>
>>63635030
Jurado has a new one out? I loved Brothers & Sisters of the Eternal Son, checking it out.
>>
>>63635076
I didn't know Chimurenga Renaissance had a new release, definitely checking that out
>>
>>63635076
>>63634968
>>63635015

honest question, not trying to be an ass...are you guys putting bowie #1 because you're "supposed to"? that album doesn't seem like it fits with your tastes and I feel like you put it there to avoid ridicule on a meme board
>>
>>63635106
it's my new favorite album of his. dimed out front ot back
>>
>>63635120
Not really, I actually loved Bowie's album. Previous to the album I had the original 'Tis as the #2 song of 2014, the new version holds up to the same level.
>>
>>63635120
I actually don't listen to as much metal as I used to, I just checked out a bunch of releases which sounded interesting to me
And I genuinely did enjoy Blackstar a lot. The title track is a legitimate masterpiece of jazzy prog pop. And there's Lazarus with the incredible lyrics. And then Sue (which I know is the most unpopular one but whatever) with its really intense buildup and release. I fucking love that album
>>
>>63635142
>>63635150
understood - I'll have to give it more of a shot...
>>
>>63635120
If anything putting Blackstar so high is inviting ridicule because this is a meme board
>>
>>63635120
I definitely payed way more attention to the album because of his death, but I think that just allowed me to get deeper into it, not overrate it
>>
>>63635150
>which I know is the most unpopular one
I thought that was Girl Loves Me, albeit the awesome nadsat lyrics and all that

>>63635120
Also, about Oranssi Pazuzu: Just listen to the album. It jams into outer space with distorted vibes. Their absolute best, for sure.
>>
>>63635169
I liked it a lot before he died but after his death (exactly one day after I heard it) the thing fucking blew my mind
>>63635175
God forbid someone likes a popular album and agrees with a popular opinion. Should I have fucking Zvi as my AOTYSF instead to up my hipster cred?
>>63635196
Not sure, Girl Loves me was the most out there one for sure. My least favorite was Dollar Days because it's a little meh for me compared to all the other god tier tracks

And yeah Pazuzu really hit the spot with their new album
Did you notice how well they incorporated odd meters throughout the album?

Yeah, I blame Bowie and them for being so behind on 2016 releases. I gonna catch some stuff from this thread to listen later.

Any good atmospheric black metal recs for the year?
>>
Grandfeathered - Pinkshinyultrablast
Spirit Phone - Lemon Demon
First Slice of Cake - Stuck in November
Everything Youve Come to Expect - The Last Shadowpuppets

Pretty good so far, and we're only 3 months into the year.
Looking forward to Weezer (White) and Gorillaz Phase 4, as well.

They went for a more dystopic science-fictiony vibe. It played out really well. Some of the riffs evoke pure apocolypse and the vocals were even more commanding than their last
>obscura
Fantastic riffs. Just about every song has a great one. They did a really good 9 minute instrumental track that was flawlessly composed, brilliant structure and timing. Definitely had some less than good cuts but a fairly good record overall
>>63635107
I liked it better than their LP. They actually used their Chimurenga influenced african rhythms way better and more often this time. And it was far more cohesive, less scatterbrained. And the political and social message was far more substantial and less gimmicky
>>63635120
I just thought it was a great album. I found it mystifying that after all these years, and so many different sounds, at nearly 70 he could draw from what was in right now and make a beautiful accessible yet off kilter record to describe how he felt about his imminent death.
>>
>>63636091
Oh shit nice. Their demo was pretty sick so I'm pumped for this one

Cool. I've never been a huge fan of the band Obscura but I can always appreciate a good technical performance when I hear one
>>
>>63636107
>a good technical performance

You'll enjoy this record then. I was impressed, mostly by the guitar work.

Any good AOTYSF contenders for you?

Damien Jurado got a lot of press in the late 90s as a seattle artist doing the indie folk thing when grunge was winding down....he's had a pretty accompliushed career since but hasn't taken many risks until he started working with a really great producer named Richard Swift a couple albums ago....this is his third straight album with Swfit and they follow the story of one character....this one is far and away his best though.

it's psych folk that I think is going to be discussed a lot as people redescover Jurado

>>63637774
I honestly wasn't a fan of Entertaining the World. Not as atmospheric as Noir, and wayyy too long for the amount of wankery in it. There were some great highlights but a lot of really stale stagnant parts.

Is Love Streams worth finding before release date? I've heard it wasn't all that good
>>
>>63637924
I'll agree with you that Entertaining the world was a bit long but there was definitely some cool stuff in it. As far as Love Streams goes I'd say it's worth it. It does feel that his collab with lopatin leaked into the style of it but still very interesting.
>>
>>63638061
Ya like don't get me wrong I can listen to 2 hour albums easy if they keep me entertaining, but there were a lot of points in Entertaining that chould have been condensed or excluded.

I definitely should have heard LS by now. I'll look it up
