Today I listened to granada by Silvia Pérez Cruz & Raül Fernández Miró. Raül plays the guitar while Silvia sings songs written by a variety of people (From Piaf or Cohen to Lorca or Schumann) in six different languages. The album itself is pretty austere and the song's styles vary a bit from song to song, some are not particularly my thing but Silvia's singing is nice and tender in all of them.
She's coming to my city next month so I'll give this a few more listens and probably go see her.

What next?

Pseudo-docudrama set in 1500s about conquistadors interacting with local tribes on a search for El Dorado, based on the writings of a monk on the journey.

But really, this shit is not very good. It comes down to the instrumentation being really awkward. Its nothing special to begin with, just really generic prog with cheap, cheesy, and more ambitious than their talent production values. At times, the music gets spicy in a weird way. Like they figured out something was missing, so why not add a little Latin heat to the music. Its odd and messes with the Lovecraftian tone that I think what the album is all about. What really took the piss out of me and dropped the album was that half-way through they decide to add some "sinister atmosphere" by layering a bunch of samples of cats hissing over each other and what seems to go on forever. I don't know what vibe they were trying to convey but it was awful, to point where I couldn't go on.

I don't what else to say other than this is bad and that they should feel bad.

Have you seen Naked? It's the quintessential movie for those who like their fair share of cynicism and nihilism.

As for those ratings: 2/5 doesn't really mean i didn't like it, the only things I don't like are in my 1.0s (and 0.5s for true shit). I just felt like Totoro, as cute of a movie it is, suffers too much from being meant for a much younger target audience, whereas Spirited Away was more fleshed out and fantastic in that regard, and Princess Mononoke is clearly more mature than either and I have a thing for nature, I guess. Even so, 5/5 doesn't mean perfect either, rating movies is hard so it's all kinda arbitrary.

Intent can offer some insight in what an album's supposed to express, but if an album isn't too enjoyable on its own right I doubt any amount of 'it's supposed to be shit' is gonna make you like it. If the intent adds a considerable amount of enjoyment to the work itself you might want to include it, but I'd say a good album shouldn't need any sort of external justification for why it is like it is.
>>
>>63617186
so if an album is perfect except for 2 bad songs (so not perfect) you give it higher than a 9 because a 9 (very high) would be too low? damn, keep doing what you do I guess

honestly it was just trying too hard to be bad, i dont know if theyre actually legit or just making bad music on purpose. it feels like its on purpose because who the fuck thinks about mixing scene, screamo and crunk? its not the worst album ever, but its up there. the thing that set this apart from the other albums ive give 0.5s to is that the others that i have down there are musicians that are respected and take their work seriously, so my hatred for it feels more legitimate, while for this it feels like it wants me to hate it, so its not as fun to tear apart.

HELL CUP

Kanzler vs Erudtiey

Kanzler's pick was interesting. From what I've seen the band is all white, correct? The way they switched between what sounds like a British accent and Japanese was bizarre, but I definitely enjoyed the release and found myself thinking "I need to hear this song again'' several times. Also the singer sounds like the one from Don't Hug Me I'm Scared
Eruditey picked some blistering jazz from Coltrane.
In the end, the jazz was phat and Eruditey wins.

>James Brown - The Payback
I'd listened to this before and loved it, great funk. Would definitely recommend this for anyone who hasn't properly listened to Brown before, I was recommended Live at the Apollo and I don't agree that that's the best entry point. 4/5

man this thing is long and dense
some heavy riffage and very sweet vocals, but this album has a lot of problems
really tested my patience. there's a lot of moments on this album where not very much is happening, and in an unflattering way
the climaxes don't even really feel like climaxes, sounds just change without much of a buildup to anything
5/10

sissy spacek - s/t
haha holy shit
really creative harsh noise, lots of changes
more fun to listen to than incapacitants or something by a long shot, and doesn't overstay its welcome, but it's hard to put it on repeat
