There is literally nothing wrong with being an avant teen.
>>
Sure, but if you call yourself one you're a pretentious idiot.
>>
Explain how avant teen music is good.
Use specific musical terminology in your response.
I dare you.
>>
>>63579231
I mean, why give a genuine response when you use a buzzword to describe music. Why don't you name specific albums you want a description of that you apparently can't understand without someone explaining it to you?
>>
>>63579293
Do the one pictured, or anything by Mememan.
>>
>>63579180
My only problem with some avant teens is that they will skip a majority of the foundation for taste or musical knowledge and go right to what is the most "challenging" or "experimental", thus removing every meaning from either of those words because they have absolutely zero frame of reference

add to the fact that they often look down on people who don't listen to what they do, despite the fact that they don't even understand it themselves, and I can see why people hate the fuckers

if you know your shit though I have no problem with you regardless of age
>>
>>63579231
It holds your interest.

It challenges you.

It provides interesting and unusual combinations of sound, timbres if you want to get technical

It treats sound more abstractly than traditional classical music.

It is he product of the 20th century. We no longer live in 18th century Germany, why should we listen exclusively to music from that period or before?
>>
>>63579231
Define ''avant teen music''.
>>
>>63579231
The fact you're calling it scant teen mysic, a term and concept that only exists in the context of /mu/ and virtually nowhere else, shows your limitations and is why you will not be able to see past your own point of view on this matter.
>>
>>63581306
"any 20th century composer I dont like"
>>
Your opinions don't matter until you are 21, everyone knows this.
>>
>>63580681
Exactly. Typically these guys won't actually know anything about the music they listen to or it's context, which is 99% of the time totally crucial regarding avant. It's pretty sad. They'll listen to it just to pass time and scrobble.
>>
fuck internet music culture

i despise it all so much

you're all juvenile teenagers or early 20 somethings using it to socialise and meme on, there's no genuine passion whatsoever
>>
>>63580681
>muh tradition
what's wrong with people listening to the music they like?
>>
>>63582745
Feel better?
>>
>>63582920
Nothing. Looking down on others for being less esoteric in one's musical tastes is pathetic though

This is what the entire board is based on.
>>
>>63582745
I run a radio talk show at my university about weekly releases, a radio show where I play stuff at the same station, and make music with my friends most weekends. And I've heard ~1500 albums since coming to /mu/ in 2013, all out of genuine interest

Do I pass your arbitrary passion index anon
>>
>>63583148
For some. Personally, I don't give a shit what you people think of my taste. I use this board mostly to talk about stuff I like, find new music, and receive recommendations from people with similar tastes. I'd like to think at least a decent portion of the board does the same
>>
>>63583174
The whole pleb/patrician and poseurcore and reddit hate or /b/ hate or normies hate and dumb troll charts etc are based on superiority complex. Then in board genre fighting.

> find new music, and receive recommendations

You can do this a lot easier and quicker without /mu/
>>
>>63583213
You're right, I use RYM mostly but I don't mind it here most of the time
>>
>>63579180
If you are using the term "avant teen" to judge somebody's taste or describe youself, well you probably are a teenager yourself, if not physically a teenager you are still one emotionally.

Nobody cares about the music you enjoy. Once you get that straight and stop caring about what kids on /mu/ say about your favorite composers or pieces, you will much better off for it.

>I'll take "Loaded Language" for 800, Alex.
sometimes when we unpack language we find inside the box not a description of a thing, but instead a prejudicial epithet that lacks real descriptive content, which says more about the moral judgement of the person using it than the person they're supposedly describing. "dilettante" is a good example of this. "decadent" is another
"avant-teen" grows out of these charts that seem to contain exclusively relatively obscure classical composers, free jazz, field recordings, and generally anything with black/white/gray/sepia colorscale
it's easy to make people like this seem like "tryhards," but even that doesn't feel like a good word, since that seems to complain at someone's genuine enthusiasm of discovering underappreciated music
literally the worst thing that could happen to the music is they'll do one of two things:
A.) discover that it's too abrasive/minimal/formless/whatever for their taste and drop it sooner or later
B.) actually come to love it, or see the beauty in it
whether they will stand up next to the more popular and lauded works in their genre, or if they will fall away when compared to them, is something for each of us to discover ourselves
there's nothing wrong with accepting everything until you find a good reason to stop listening to it; how would you ever discover if what you're listening to truly is the greatest if you don't take a chance on something different or less popular?
>>
>>63582745
agree. It's just dick measuring, acting superior, tell other people how much their taste is awful, there is never no middle ground: you either love it or hate it. And the worst of all: no fucking "spoon feeding", if you want to discover new music, do it yourself. Then why you come to a fucking internet board, if you aren't going to show what do you listen to? what's wrong in showing new music other people?
fucking cunt patricians, plebs, pseudo academics, music theorists from the college of shitness.
The best part is that i fucking bet all of you are daily raped in the ass by the governments of you countries and don't even care.

>bored one day
>realize ive never heard a jazz album, much less free jazz
>look up free jazz and listen to the first thing that comes up which was albert ayler's spiritual unity
>loved it
>browsing mu one day and someone made a chart of avant teens, shit ive never seen mentioned in my 5 years of lurking mu
>apparently liking noise and free jazz makes you a teenage tryhard
>im 25 and i unironically like those genres

This is actually pretty good, not even cringe at all. I'm not usually into orchestral or atonal music but this is alright. Anyone got anything similar?
>>
>>63584568
>someone made a chart of avant teens

I'd like to see that.
>>
the only people who i think deserve the name avant teens are the people who listen to obscure rymshit when they have no knowledge or grounding in music as a whole

for example people who have listened to etat brut but have never heard the stooges
>>
>>63583145
he's actually right
