> For artists seeking a financial boon from their fans, it might be more important to get them to buy vinyl than watch their YouTube videos, according to new statistics.
>On Tuesday the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) released information that for U.S.-based revenue, vinyl sales outpace income from all free-to-consumer streaming services combined. This includes YouTube, Vevo, Spotify, SoundCloud, and all others.
>Vinyl sold $433.2 million across EPs, LPs, and singles in 2015, compared to the revenue generated by streaming services only hitting $385.1 million. Vinyl sales grew 32 percent from 2014.
Explain this bullshit, /mu/
Whelp, time to start pressing my album onto limited edition colored vinyl
>>63561374
>Explain this bullshit, /mu/
vinyl is stupidly expensive but people still buy it. it's fucking gold !!
>>63561374
hipsters are rich kids with too much time on their hands
>>63561604
this, also look at the source of the study
>>63561374
The vinyl trend is for total fucking morons.
vinyl won't make it to the 20s. CDs and casettes are hot right now
>>63562321
Cassettes are cheaper and way cooler than vinyls
Vinyl is for people that like looking at their collection more than they listen to it
>>63562348
8tracks are better bruh, they let you pick what track to listen to without all that fastforward/rewinding nonsense
Beanie babies make more money than regular stuffed toys because there's an incentive to have them in a collection
It's the same shit
>>63562379
Let's face it, physical media is obsolete, it's only point is for collecting/because it's cool
Form > function
>>63562405
All media is physical tho.
>>63562379
>skipping tracks
>>63562424
Everything is physical if you want to be that guy.
Also, supernatural is a meaningless concept since anything that exists must by definition be a part of nature.
>>63562424
not as physical as when I get physical with ur mom, nerd
>>63562467
Yes.
>>63562469
Ok.
>>63562321
>vinyl won't make it to the 20s
>2020s
that just threw me off guard gimme a minute
>>63562449
>not having personal flashbacks to specific moment in your life that make the buddha at the river look quiant and which can be recallled by simply hearing a specific tracking
>[current year]
I bet you still smell lemon cakes or some shit
>>63562504
what
>>63562553
I think he's making a Proust reference but forgot that he isn't on /lit/
>>63562405
not sure about that. are generic soundcard DACs anywhere near as good as the ones in cd players?
Anyone see As who? With more vinyl...
>>63562567
>proust
literally what
>>63562837
>he doesn't know proust
I know this isn't /lit/ but could you be any more pleb
>>63562837
French writer, wrote a book called In Search of Lost Time that's famous for being really long and difficult. Also he's a /lit/ meme
>>63562222
those quads though
>>63561374
>vinyl made more money than free streaming
I also made more money than something that is free
>>63562884
/lit/ memes are Joyce, Pynchon and DFW, not Proust
>>63561374
I hate this fucking bullshit study and everyone who shares it and says "Le VINYL is coming back!" (And Im a huge vinylfag)
This only accounts for FREE streaming. You pay 6 bucks a month to Spotify? Doesn't count that. You pay however many dollars a year to Tidal? Doesn't count that either. And those are way bigger moneymakers for the actual musicians than the free streaming, where money is only made off of ad revenue
>>63563168
It literally says "includes ... Spotify". Are you just calling them liars outright?
>>63564546
it only counts the free tierof streaming services, it says it plain as day that they're not counting revenue from any streaming service that is paid tier
>>63564593
>it says it plain as day that they're not counting revenue from any streaming service that is paid tier
In the original article maybe, but I don't see that in the OP anywhere. My bad I guess.
>>63564669
my bad, I mixed up threads and thought you were
>>63563421
here's the article I was referring to
http://pitchfork.com/news/64345-vinyl-sales-made-more-money-than-free-streams-last-year/
BREAKING NEWS: Vinyl is expensive.
Who woulda thunk it
>>63562285

TOILET PAPER MADE MORE MONEY THAN WIPING YOUR ASS WITH YOUR HAND IN 2015
>>63562348

>>63566419
You're supposed to listen to them not eat them.
>>63566631

>Paid services made more than free services
damn...
>>63566653
Shit comeback.
>>63566740
that wasn't a comeback
>piracy is stealing
>streaming basically fucking is too
Both made more money than torrents and pirate sites so they should shut the fuck up about it.
>>63561374
>>Explain this bullshit, /mu/
One word: Pitchfork. /thread.
