I've picked up playing the organ again and I'm working on a short EP. I'm also experimenting with tape loops too.

So if anyone wants some organ or synth on their music, I'd be happy to help out.

New album for preorder, sunk a lot of money into it, well, 100ish dollars, want to get enough preorders to release it on iTunes (45 bucks.)

There's an album called recurring daydreams vol 2 that came out yesterday, it's all remixes other people made of my compositions.

Please check it out if you like happy sounding edm music of all style (exluding things with a lot of lfo and dubstep noises such as dubstep and glitch-hop.)

It wasn't the whole account, just the new album. I'm not happy about it but, it was our label and I'm still not sure on all the details and is just the way it goes. It really sucks though. I made a few good friends and some really great musicians on these sort of threads and we'd help each other out with advice, artwork and such. I appreciate you asking man.
>>
>>63561854
Shit, that must be awful.
Honestly not a big fan of most record labels, I don't trust them
>>
>>63561877
Nah, I totally agree and definitely understand where you're coming from, seriously. They seem to prey on smaller, unknown, independent musicians and give them this feeling of success and accomplishment. But, a lot of the time, numbers don't seem to add up and promises don't seem to be kept and deals break. It happens. Yeah there are some good points like, yeah your CD can be seen on the shelves some high-end stores but, is it worth it?
>>
>>63562046
Yeah, I agree.
Who are you signed with by the way?
>>
>>63561854
I've never found a label that offered me anything I couldn't already do myself.
They could front me money for advertising, already have a large subscriber base to promote me (but submitting to promotion channels does this) But I could also earn that money, getting on itunes through a distributor that takes 10% plus a 45 dollar fee is super easy. Then again I'm not a touring musician, and I don't mess with big money. I always sign contracts and agreements that let me upload and use my music whereever I please.

What did your label offer you?

from >>63560792
I'm self invested, so I'm 85 dollars in the hole on artwork, which is being made, the artwork shown is just a temporary sketch.
>>
https://thelivingtoys.bandcamp.com/album/ghost-dance

>Ghost Dance is the debut EP from The Living Toys. Taking release inspiration from Car Seat Headrest, the Living Toys' debut is a remastered and remixed collection of songs spanning across several years, from 2012 to 2015, and includes a few brand new songs. The harsh soundscapes interspersed with journeys into conventional pop music and ambient tracks make for a varied and interesting listen.

>>63562186
They offered a fair bit. Nothing financial though like, money to tour or accommodation but, I don't think any label does that to be fair. We got put in Prog magazine CD and an advert of us so, some coverage. We used our own money to get us an ad in Terrorizer and a track on the Fear Candy CD that comes free with the magazine. That's what got us in touch with the label first place. But, our CD is in HMV now which I'm really happy with and if we sell enough CDs we could get a batch of 500 to sell, which won't come out of our own pocket (the first 200 CDs came out of our own pockets as we printed those before we were signed). But, if we sell enough, we might get a vinyl pressing. Which is my aim in life. There's nothing wrong so far, we just feel we need to keep pushing them to make things go ahead.

>>63562110
I'm not sure if I can say now, I feel like I've said a bit of shit about them when I've not. They're doing great so far. I'm just getting a niggling fear that things might go to shit. Y’know?
Our label is doing fine, but I've heard so much about other labels. That's my worry, I've read about Rising Records and I'd hate for that to happen to us.

gave a few songs off heavenly bones a listen. i like the use of weird loops as background noise to keep the instrumentation feeling fresh. it was a good production choice. i also enjoy how there is variety in track structures. as much as i generally enjoy most ambient that comes out of these threads (yeah i'm one of those people fight me fucker), i can't deny that within most BC ambient albums, the structure of songs stays largely the same. even from the small amount i sampled, i can tell there is a lot going on here. would buy a tape of/10

>>63569261
well, for that first song, I was trying to communicate an idea musically that coincides with the samples. Alan Watts at first presenting part of his philosophy re. coming to terms with death, and then Robert J. Oppenheimer and his reflections on the first test of the atomic bomb. The idea was that the music set to both of these is symbolic, where there's a climax after Oppenheimer's words that cuts out- like to show how quickly it can all "become nothing," i.e. what Watts was talking about.
Valid question though. I'd rather sound convoluted than boring honestly
>>
>>63569498
>rather sound convoluted than boring
Those aren't mutually exclusive. Thing is, if both Oppenheimer and Watts presented their case, then why would you drop a guitar beat under it, instead of making the riff into a full-fledged song? Both statements are already extremely impactful and there's no way that you can put it in a song without sounding corny as fuck. Also, I think that Oppenheimer speech was sampled in a Linkin Park song which is a bad path to follow.

I understand your criticisms, but I disagree w/ the notion that "there's no way you can put it in a song without sounding corny as fuck." I think there are plenty of examples of artists using different samples (and combinations of samples) to accentuate an idea or connect ideas in a meaningful way, and as well I reject the idea that music needs singing or a riff-based formula. I also think musically this can be accomplished without sounding cut-and-paste (I tried especially to match the different production aspects to have musical thematic connections with the samples, as to avoid the song sounding like "dropping a guitar beat under" samples), but I can't appeal to everyone.
Thanks for your input, helps me be aware of what to avoid musically. Bumor to hear about that Linkin Park usage though

For me, it can go either way with sampling: you will be corny or you won't. You have to provide leverage with your music, depending on how impactful the words are.

I really like it. Cool riffs and the bridge is interesting. Production could be a lot better, but good songwriting. Looking forward to new stuff.
