What does /mu/ think about Tangerine Dream? their 70s work is pretty good
Love them
Best official release is Pergamon
Best studio album probably Force Majeure or Stratosfear
Best bootleg is Tangerine Trees 30
1985 was their last good year
Agree or disagree?

just got into them, i've only listenend to the virgin years. currently listening to Stratosfear for the second time. Pheadra and Hyperborea are my favs so far.
Yep, their 70's work is really good. I don't understand how their quality could go down so badly in the 80's and forwards. It's still OK but not nearly as good as they used to be.
Rubycon is probably my fave

They had many line up changes
Froese was the only constant member in the band
Funny thing is that his son got to play with him in the band
Imagine you in a band with your dad

Zeit is by far their best, it's literal god-tier Tasteless

No way. Their 80s stuff is great as well. At very least until Underwater Sunlight from 1986. There are also some underrated later albums like Mars Polaris from 1999.

Do people actively listen to ambient music? I always find it slipping into the background unless its a short song like treefingers

>I always find it slipping into the background
is this irony or severe autism

I just can't call it great myself. I mean it's still good and I like listening to it, but I see a lot of wasted potential. Tangerine Dream seems to have gone the "New Age" way, while for example Klaus Schulze took influences from classical music in his latest releases.
Klaus Schulze is my all-time favorite musician, but I don't care about TD a lot. They are almost always enjoyable but... Never truly great.
