Damn I really need to get into The New Blockaders.

I think I remember Fernow talking about them in an interview somewhere as being one of the first noise groups to pioneer "reverse" acousmatic listening, in the sense that you were supposed to be picturing them banging hammers on a metal floor; they were kind of exploring this idea of physical actions being captured as audio, and the process of visualising a narrative that would change depending on the interpreter. As in, the metal was being struck in different places which produced different tones or timbres and a listener would be trying to work out what's actually going on to make those recordings.

I hope that makes sense. To me that idea is really fucking cool. It has definitely been done is electroacoustic music, but I love the seedier and more violent spin that noise has on the same practices.

Currently listening to this for the first time. It's amazing.

>>63561917
Yeah, seeing and hearing those sorts of gutter-industrial visions applied to ideas pretty heavy on the academic angle is really compelling.
TNB are tops in every regard. Both in their concepts and the way those concepts translate into sound and object.

When you do start getting into them, don't miss out on Nihilist Assault Group, especially the Aural Retribution LP. One-off(not counting the NFF live performance captured on the Silent Movie DVD/12") collaboration between Rupenus, Lessard and Fernow. Up there with the best work in any of those guys' bodies of work and one of the best noise releases of the last decade.

>>63562106
It's one of the all-time great noise compilations for sure.
Just the way in which it's constructed and the roster of artists featured on it is a mindfuck, and that's not even getting into the sounds themselves.
>>
>>63562492
>(not counting the NFF live performance captured on the Silent Movie DVD/12")

Wait, I just remembered that the NFF performance wasn't even a collaboration between that lineup, as Lessard didn't perform and could actually be seen watching it from the side of the stage and Rupenus most likely didn't show up either. Fuck, I wonder what the actual lineup was.
Richard Dunn was credited with "live support" on it, I guess he was one of performers?

My money's on Kris Lapke.

Was the 24 Hours Of Showers performance the second-ever EJ live appearance? The only other one that I'm aware of is one he did when the PTC box came out(pictured here).

No idea. That image is the only other bit of information about a live EJ performance I've ever found. I know nothing of when exactly that performance took place.

Do you guys know if Dom has ever performed as RSE? I'd throw all my money towards a show for that project. It pushes all of my buttons and then some.

>I know nothing of when exactly that performance took place.

2010, according to an Instagram post I stumbled upon once. It was to commemorate the release of the Trans Industrial Assembly box-sets.
>>
>>63564025
I don't think so. Same with CC. VS is the only of the trinity he's performed as.

Also

CC > VS > RSE

imo
>>
>>63564025
None that I am aware of. Of the RSE/VS/CC trilogy, only VS functioned as a live act.
>>
>>63564051
>CC > VS > RSE

No way, I gotta agree with the other dude about RSE being the best of the lot(though I'll admit to having a heavy fetish for that sort of thick "heavy" ambient music and generally not caring much for techno).
RSE and CC are the keeper projects for me.
When it comes to VS the only release which has had a long-lasting appeal to me is Death Is Unity With God.

I thought that the first VS tape was alright and that it had an interesting atmosphere, but I think that he took that "pure" transcendent religious mood and did more interesting things with it in CC.
It was a long time since I last listened to the Washington... decks but I remember not liking that material at all.

>Some of the best work to his name is in that thing, I fucking swear.

Are underground Japanese Noise shows as lame as western ones?
>>
>>63567316
I haven't been to a noise show, but they look either fun as fuck or boring as hell.

Not exactly underground (for noise anyway) but Incapacitants put on a hell of a show

If the only reason you have for going to a show is getting drunk and spazzing out you might as well just go to shitty punk shows instead. Not every noise artist is Incapacitants.

>>
>>63567566
noise literally came out of punk/psychedelic culture in Japan
>>
>>63566845
nice
>>
>>63568175
No, noise came out of Futurism, Dada and (primarily European-led) experiments in electroacoustic music and musique concrète during the second half of the 20th century.
>>
>>63568175
>>63568343
Guys, guys! You're both correct.
>>
>>63568369
Japanese noise was just one strain of the early formation of noise into a concrete culture with its own specific methods and audiences. Saying that it was entirely the beginning of noise is hella dumb.
You think Boyd Rice or Richard Rupenus or the Come Org/Broken Flag/Controlled Bleeding crews had any idea about Japanese noise(which was at the time still in its infancy and had no concrete unified identity) in the late 70s and early 80s?

>>63568452
>or the Come Org/Broken Flag/Controlled Bleeding crews had any idea about Japanese noise
Yes because Whitehouse was big in Japan, they toured there
there are Japanese records from from the 80's talking about William Bennett's penis. They bought all those records coming out
>>
>>63568175
>>63568343
This guy's right that you're both right >>63568369

Personally I still like the Dada stuff more than the Japanese stuff
>>
what sort of time period did japanoise as a phenomenon take off, anyway? late 80s and early 90s?
>>

>>
>>63568550
>Yes because Whitehouse was big in Japan, they toured there
>there are Japanese records from from the 80's talking about William Bennett's penis

Nice way to ignore

>in the late 70s and early 80s?

Of course they came into contact eventually, but in those formative early years these were still isolated cliques carving out their own paths.
If anything I'd say that the UK, European and US people were more important in the formation of the whole thing in those days because it was simply easier for them to communicate with each other than it was for them to communicate with the Japanese or vice versa.
>>
>>63568452
>Saying that it was entirely the beginning of noise is hella dumb.
Congrats, you discovered why I said both posts were correct! Well done.
>>
>>63568757
>early 80s?
Yeah, most of those records were there by then. 20 Jazz Funk Greats had a Japanese release in 81 and that's not even counting imports and bootlegs.

my point was that noise music in Japan grew out of punk and psychedelic culture which is why Incapacitants shows aren't going to be the only ones where people are "getting drunk and spazzing out"

Yeah, there's a time and a place for getting drunk and spazzing out (while noise). Going nuts during an excellent cut-up or PE set is wonderful. Doing the same during a LAFMS or Damion Romero set is not.
>>
>>63568175
And that makes every noise artist a branch of that i their motivations? This is the problem with you guys that want to lump every noise artist under the same category. There's value in noise other than a "statement".
>>
>>63570703
>And that makes every noise artist a branch of that i their motivations?
nope I didn't say that, just that noise music in Japan grew out of punk/industrial and psychedelic culture
>>
>>63571141

>>
>>63571248
are you fucking autistic?
the person said
>you might as well just go to shitty punk shows instead
my point was noise shows are punk shows in Japan by and large and the reason they are is that noise music in Japan grew out of punk/industrial and psychedelic culture. Psychedelic music in Japan also being a large part of what is considered "punk"
