Electric Wizard and Kyuss are both pretty good stoner metal. Since you like drone, I'd suggest Naked City's Leng Tch'e. It's weird as fuck but easily one of my favorite drone metal albums. If you're looking to branch out into other subgenres of metal, try some Darkthrone, Mastodon, or Agalloch.

Agalloch has a lot of variety which means that a lot of their shit is really really meh. But they have a lot of very memorable stuff. I can hear the riff from "Falling Snow" clearly in my head. I can't remember any CC songs, even though I could name some - "Hammer Smashed Face", for example. But too bad the name is more memorable than the song, even though I've heard it I don't remember how it sounds like. Probably just chugga chugga death metal.

I wouldn't dare to say my favorite "pop metal" bands but some of the stuff I enjoy the most is Ghost's Meliora was pretty great poppy trad doom/metal, latest Mechina album could be a great contender for this too, some Amon Amarth doesn't hurt either

i mean yeah sure death metal with it's riff frenzy is definitely there, and black metal with it's atmosphere. but thrash did tend to experiment with its song structures quite a bit as well. i guess anything injected with punk you lose that verse/chorus effect?
