Why has Goth been rebranded as "post-punk" in the last couple of years? Goth was a reaction to punk selling out and becoming jarhead slam music or evolving into hardcore, it was a place for people to go where they could keep up the punk diy sprit and not have jocks knock them down for writing something other then some corny shit about anarchy. right now there are people making goth music like deerhunter but they don't get called goth because it has this stigma. and im not saying postpunk isn't real im just saying that a lot of the stuff that is getting the post-punk brand simply isn't post-punk
Because Americans love labels but are really bad at applying them.
In the end do labels really matter?

Goth is an offshoot of post punk. Also I'm pretty sure the Cure don't like to be called goth anyway. There's a lot of overlap. But to be a bit clearer, name some bands you consider post punk along with some you consider goth.

post-punk was also a reaction to punk- keeping in line with the diy spirit of punk but abandoning the original message in favor of the avant-garde and the non-traditional.
Goth is a subgenre of post-punk, Joy Division and The Cure being the most notable examples.
