That's because they all charge so fucking much for one record. They can stop whining on about piracy now, even streaming is making them a fortune.

Any non-shit ones will do, you don't have to have USB output, just RCA-to-single jack adapter into line-in in your computer. Just don't do it directly from the turntable, but from phono preamp

You can build your collection until you get a better setup.
Just don't spend too much on expensive new albums
>>63554919
What are the odds, I'm the guy who was asking about those. I wish I lived in the States, $15 for Diamond Dogs would be an instant sell. I'd go to the same for a decent condition copy of Master of Reality.
>>63557547
I know how you feel. I had a bunch of vinyl from ages ago which I put into storage after my player broke. My girlfriend unearthed it and decided she wants to get into vinyl, knows fuck all about players, and decided to buy a Crosley without telling me anything. Had that thing a week before I told her to return it, I've never heard a worse-sounding piece of audio equipment and I own a fucking 1979 walkman. The skipping and wow/flutter was beyond anything I've ever experienced.
I've heard that Vinyl records warp the sound on the last track. Is that true? Has it ruined any music for you?
>>63558167
What the fuck does that mean? Do you mean distort?
Yes, inner groove distortion is a thing, but it can be fixed - or at least alleviated - by properly aligning your cartridge or installing a finer stylus (Shibata, microline).
>>63558191
Alright then, I just wanted to know.
>>63558167
If you use a linear tracking turntable you shouldn't hear it.
i'm heavy into disco at the moment. Buying old stuff and new stuff now-a-days.

>not being well liked enough to get discounts at your local record store
lmao!
Guys, what got you into vinyl in the first place? I'm curious about why you each started doing it.
Personally, I got tired of music being as cold and sterile as just picking a track from a playlist and clicking it. I enjoy not having a shuffle or repeat function. I like having to take care in cleaning and properly storing my records. I feel like having an material component to your music makes it feel more like a real, appreciable thing and less like a huge incorporeal list sitting on a hard drive.
Went to record store yesterday and I purchased:
- Buena Vista Social Club
- Stoned Jesus : Seven Thunders Roar
- Aphex Twin : SAW 85-92
- AC - Painting With
- Big Lebowski soundtrack (fuck yeah)
>pic related, my player, also have a Denon PMA520AE stereo receiver and two big old Technics speakers, they sound pretty good.

Isn't it pointless getting all these digital releases on vinyl?
>>63566664
I actually have the older version of that model, no carbon. Switching from 33 to 45 is as easy as can be, just slightly stretch the rubber band and put it onto the other groove.
>>63567168
Only as pointless as you feel it is. It would be pointless for you, because you think it is. Other people don't think so.

What's the best way to get into vinyl as a poorfag? I want to get a Jensen but I heard those fuck up your records. Is this one fine?

>>63572934
Try either the AT-LP120 or the U-Turn Orbit
>>63572979
>300 dollars for a turn table
>180 for the other
This hobby is far too fucking expensive for me.
>>63573013
Who said it was cheap
You can try Craigslist for vintage
>>63573013
The LP-60 is fine as a base-level hobbyist, but that is the absolute minimum. Do NOT buy a crosley, tempted by the low price as you may be.
Upgrade as soon as possible if you don't want your records fucked in the long run, but in the short term you should be fine. Just don't buy or play anything you particularly care about preserving.
>>63573143
What's the absolute minimum AT model if I don't want to fuck up my records? Also couldn't I just replace the stylus with a quality one and have it fuck them up less?
>>63573264
The cartridge on the AT-LP60 is fixed, and only one stylus model fit in it.
>>63571149
Is it damaged or does it still sound clean?
>>63568147
4/4 I miss Isis (NSA: I'm talking about the band)
Pic related arrived in the mail on Monday, but I was out of state until today. Sounds perfect and is pressed on white vinyl, which I think matches the mood of the album pretty well.
>>63573350
What about for the Crosley shit? Wouldn't those be fine too with a replaced stylus?
>>63573264
The minimum you want for that is the LP-120. It's not directly the stylus that wrecks the records, it's the tracking weight. The LP-60 is pre-balanced and lacks a counterweight, while the 120 is adjustable and has a counterweight. A tone arm with a counterweight is basically essential if you want to preserve your records as long as possible, since too heavy a tracking weight wears down the grooves on the record sooner.
It's overstated in most cases, though. You'll never eliminate degradation, the best you can do is go to extraordinary lengths to minimize it.
>>63573376
The tonearm is a spring loaded piece of plastic shit.
>>63573409
I think I'll stick with the LP60. Will it cause my records to skip and repeat? If so, how long will it be if I plan on playing the albums I get a few times a week?
>>63573409
This is an ok beginner turntable. It's plastic and shit but has a tonearm you can set up properly. I've listened to one of these and it sounded pretty good actually.
>>63573376
Same case.
Crosley is worse because they use ceramic cartridge, instead of moving magnet from the better turntables, and they actually require heavy tracking to play properly.
>>63573376
Absolutely not. With regards to >>63573409, the tracking weight on crosleys is insane. The ideal weight is about 1.6 grams. Crosleys measure in excess of 5 to 6 grams. Combine with the fact that they skip all the fucking time, it's like taking a razor blade to the surface of a CD.
>>63573475
What the fuck? Who the fuck would ever buy these, you're paying 20+ dollars per record.
>>63573498
Hipsters who care more about the image and idea of vinyl more than the hobby itself. I don't give a shit why anyone gets into vinyl, I'm glad people enjoy it because it means more people to discuss it with, but I can't stand people who just want to look like they're into something trendy and cool with no regard for the actual detail.
These are the people Crosleys are made for.
>>63573447
Months, if you store, clean and prepare them for play properly. The degradation from the LP-60's weight won't even be markedly noticeable until you're using a turntable and speaker system with a combined value of several hundred dollars anyway.
Bought my first two last weekend. I think I'm off to a good start

new to this, are jensen's notoriously bad?
>>63574252
The turntable Jensen and Crosley use literally comes from the same factory in China.
It's cheap shit
>>63559406
cool setup
>>63557547
don't stop collecting. what i did was got every album i wanted (this was about 20 albums) over the span of a year. and from there i built my setup. which is a Audio-Technica AT-LP120-USB and audioengine a5+ speakers. both of which were pretty easy setups and sound nice! the turntable is easily modifiable too---this is what i hear. haven't done any yet.
>>63573361
Holy shit where did you get that The Room poster?
went to the record store today and got:
japandroids - celebration rock
run the jewels - rtj2
and a single from definitive jux that has a song by "the weathermen" (el-p and a few other artists) and "mr. lif & murs". does anybody know much about this single? its a 12 inch thst includes the normal version, instrumental, and clean version of each song.
i also am looking for a new player/some cheap but nice speakers. preferably under $100 for player and under $70 for the speakers. suggestions?
>>63574950
paying under $100 for a turntable is a death sentence for any record you play on it.
at-lp60 is the best cheap entry level turntable you can get.
>>63575813
thanks, you know anything about speakers?
>>63573361
jealous of the record and the room poster fuck
