But it's not a perfect album, even though it was the perfect way to go out strong. The singing is sometimes really bad, although I doubt it could've been helped, and some of the tracks (last half of Blackstar, I Can't Give Everything Away) have cheesy production

You can think an album is overrated and still like it. I've thought of it as 7/10 since the start but it has glaring flaws (production and vocal performances), even though the lyrics are heartbreaking and some of the arrangements are super cool

I've been a huge Bowie fan for years prior to his death. After living with this album for a few months now I think it seriously might be his very best record. I listened to Station To Station (one of my favorite albums) right after Blackstar last night and STS fell totally flat.

Seems pretty standard, I guess every band is bland because just about every band uses this instrumentation.
I haven't heard the album in its entirety and don't really care to do so, but from the couple of tracks I've heard, the instrumentation is perfectly fine because it's in the hands of perfectly capable musicians (Mark Guilliana, Jason Linder, etc)
