But goddamn those lyrics, I mean how the hell do you write"Fake Tales of San Francisco" at 17?

>>63538862
that's not god-tier. i like him as a lyricist, but he's not particularly deep.

>but he's not particularly deep.
>how straightforward
jesus christ the stink of pleb off you is unbearable.
It's okay I'll educate you though. Arcade Fire's music is all about the human condition, and more importantly people's mental state. Win#'s lyrics are all about why we think the way we do, how are head has been shaped because of the environment we were brought up in and how we can reject the pressures on us to conform and be truly ourselves. Each album tackles another societal institution that makes forces people to conform. For instance, Funeral is about Family. Neon Bible is about Religion. The Suburbs is about Suburban Life/Existentialism. Reflektor is about the media.
Now if that's not "deep" to you you are empty, nothingness troglodytes that are incapable of understanding any concept that is even slightly important and you should crawl back into the cave whence you came.
>>63539063
>jesus christ the stink of pleb off you is unbearable.

thank you for proving my point, you are incapable of understanding other points of view and everything you see goes through a heavy filter of autism before you think about it

can you, like, chillax for a little bit there, Brian? look, I like Arcade Fire. as a matter of fact they are one of my favourite bands out there. I like the themes they explore on their albums, some of them are close to my heart. however, I still think Win's lyrics are anything more than very good. They're honest and open and that's great but sometimes they lack subtelty and it has nothing to with the subject of their music

Wait so are you the guy who posted the cringey iron meme? Cause if so that's really sad that in one breath you call AF plebian and then in another you say their one of your favorite bands out there
Anyway I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt that you aren't that guy. So okay could you please point to instance were they "lack subtlety"? Preferably on Funeral because that is their most acclaimed so it's only fair you look at their best when we're talking about the quality of his lyrics. (You would hardly look at a 2010s Cohen album to judge if he was a great lyricist or not)
I always find Win's lyrics to be incredibly nuanced in the way that he tackles these core social issues, it could so easily come across as preachy and overly pretentious but I find that he manages to make you care more about the themes because he personalizes them so that they're relocatable and tangible. A bit like Kendrick Lamar done on his latest record.
>>63539478
Arcade Fire are okay and your posts are cringe-inducing
Manic StreetPreachers : the thread. Seriously OP check them out, they have some of the fi est lyrics of any rock band ever.
Also, La Dispute. That shit is fantastic.

>>63534784
YES
Listen to the song "I know it's over"
>>63542075
I like her muted, unassuming, but clear and witty style. She makes me laugh, she doesn't take herself too seriously (*ahem* buckley, win butler etc.), and shes sharp in her detail. Now is she 'God-tier' (whatever the fuck that means)? I couldn't say. She's done a lot for me lately though (all these artists have). Im not a fan of obscurantism, I like plain speech over muddy metaphor, and barnett and most of my list are straight, poetic lyricists. I realize aesop and malkmus are the exception to the rule, but i like em anyway.
>>63542075
ive recently been digger barnett's kim's caravan. so many images I can see clear as day. The seal gasping on the beach, the bust of jesus frowning down at her as she tries to sleep, the dredgers upending the great barrier reef. eco-horror is not easy to write a tune about, but she does it. evocative stuff
