We need to be more along the lines of objectivism, but with way less of a sense of socialism. More emphasis on individualism and science.

We will hit peak rage soon, then it's all downhill from there.

There was a song called Happy on the top of the charts for like 10 fucking weeks last year. It was all about how the guy was really fucking Happy.
>>
>>63529520
3 years ago and it is an outlier. the music videos made the song popular.

we just got through a period of excess. free music movies whatever you want on the internet. massively popular electronic music festivals where people do party drugs and feel sexual energy. there are a lot of parallels to the 60s (huge leaps in mass communication + large-scale hedonistic rejections of social norms). now we're bored of all that and are searching for meaning (once again like the the 60s) through activism and identity politics. i think if clinton is elected we'll have our generations version of the 70s (the countries mood will sour even further, govt. distrust will increase, the economy will stagnate) and if trump is elected we'll be trying to skip ahead to the 80s (lots of ra ra america is great bullshit that makes everyone feel good and juices the economy but is built off the back of some despicable shit)

You're argument seemed strong until you said we need more individualism and science.

Why would that be a bad thing? Thinking logically and forming your own unique opinions?

It's just a thought. Dystopia is better anyways, because the best art comes from despair and pain.

I'd say it's the opposite, meaningless airy indie-pop peaked around about the same time as the financial crisis. Compared to the gloomy economic outlook, it's very jovial and upbeat - I mean, remember how popular bands like FUN and Noah and the Whale were?

I think there is a certain about of animosity and dissatisfaction present in music as well but I think it's more exclusive to rap rather than pop. (Arguably this is because the rappers are members of the working/middle classes most effected by social stratification and the economic crisis, compared with the middle/upper class indie bands funded in infallible mega-labels, who in turn prefer to push limited range of music anyway (songs that are generally upbeat or carry universal messages, i.e. unrequited love, ect) because they wish to cater to the broadest possible demographic and unsurprisingly, most people don't like to listen to music that's actually depressing (i.e. any kind of music that deals with personal relationships/loss/mental illness).

I suppose what I'm trying to say is that, no. Most people aren't angry. If anything we're living as close to the 50s/80s as is possible in a relatively liberal society. Once again, the in the face of adversity, the state is all seeing and all protecting and people feel more inclined to make sacrifices in order to further protect the community. To remove themselves from that sacrifice, they look for outlets that are detached from that feeling or more in line with their desires.

If you think society is angry or cynical now, then ask yourself if you could imagine Paranoid Android charting now. Because honestly, if it was to come out today, I think people would turn their ears away. People aren't skeptical of the government in the same way they fear the outside world now.

>implying the resource wars won't make 20th century politics obsolete post-environmental collapse. We will fight to the death for a glass of water. And then the survivors will die from neuropathic prions. So kick back and enjoy the last Golden Age while you still can.

well.... actually the best art comes from the resurgence out of that despair and pain.

Nope. How about learning about what "Capitalism" is? Marxist definitions are shit.

I don't know. Music in the 10s seems to pretty happy and positive. Maybe a bit too positive. Like compare today's alternative music to the 80s and 90s. It's a lot more upbeat and lighter sounding. In fact it may be too upbeat and light sounding. You can't even really rock or even have fun listening to a lot of this stuff. In the 80s there was post-punk and goth. In the 90s there was grunge, industrial and other types of dark alternative rock and metal. Now, the alternative music scene seems to, for the most part, consist of upbeat, light sounding rock. So light sounding that most of it sounds like a fucking bore. Now I'm not saying that the alternative music scenes of the 80s and 90s consisted solely of dark and angry music. There was definitely some light and upbeat music in those decades. But the point I'm making is that there was a balance. The light and the dark coexisted.

So basically no, the 10s haven't been a very angry period. In fact it needs to become more angry. I'm starting to realize while typing all of this that I'm sick of the castrated crap that's considered alternative rock dominating the Today's Alternative station on Pandora.
