New York had the best hip hop in the 70s and 80s. LA had the best in the 90s, and now Chicago's making a name for itself in the rap game with people like Kanye and Chance.
In terms of sheer skill in the art, the East Coast can't be fucked with.

The regions are alright but you left out a ton of relevant and influential rappers.
The Midwest has a ton of alt-hip hop. Eyedea, Milo, etc. Philadelphia has The Roots and Jedi Mind Tricks. Chicago and Detroit deserve more than an honorable mention. Common and Eminem are the first that come to mind and they're hardly irrelevant.

I feel like these kind of maps are irrelevant after 2000. Each regions "sound" has taken influence from other regions sound, resulting in all rap sounding kinda samesy, regardless of where it came from. There is still differences, sure, but they are not nearly as drastic as they were in the 90s.

The fact that you can get devil shyt, street hip hop, conscious hip hop, and bounce music all from one region is amazing. The diversity really puts it over
the top.
All of the regions have good music, (and what region you come from doesn't really matter as much anymore because of how the internet has affected the type of music people are exposed to), but the south is just too good + southern album covers are the best.

I think the South is killing it right now at least. Seems like trap is becoming the dominant hip hop subgenre if it's not already, and a lot of artists from other areas are using that style.
