Do they have rich parents? A trust fund? Slave away playing at bars and streets? What is it then?
>>
They don't

which is why everyone plays it safe now.

I hope you're happy

not as much people pirate shit as you think

They have jobs as well you fucking retard
>>
Youtube.

The views chart songs get are unreal and they all have advertising.
>>
in certain genres, I only respect the touring musician.
they should be making all their money off of touring and merch
I say this knowing exactly how hard it is and knowing quite a few bands who have given up

but if you're into something obscure, something you just won't find a following for even if you make it, I think you have to find a day job. Which isn't the worst thing in the world, you know.

luckily we live in a world where recording costs have become negligible. music should be free anyways.

1.sell your music to be used in commercials and movies and tv
2.merch
3.live music

Im a painter and i had this idea once, i was thinking about art and the history of music, before the invention of the record did musicians make money?
Its a kind of new phenomenon.
Before the record you had to have a rich person or royalty commission you for a song.
And if you are a painter you get commissioned all the time to draw shit for people.
So im thinking why dont musicians get commissiond, like why cant i pay you to make a acid house song or a goth song

>So im thinking why dont musicians get commissiond, like why cant i pay you to make a acid house song or a goth song

Like Max Martin or some other hitmaker?
>>
>>63443759
No, like how on deviantart some random retard can pay an artist to draw a furry porn.

Why isnt there a system where i can pay a musician i like to make a individual tailored song for me
>>
>>63443737
this happens all the fucking time for movies, tv shows, commercials etc.

for you to get commissioned you have to make something for a purpose, you don't get commissioned to make a acid house song just for it to exist
>>
>>63442927
They have a job.
Some guys such as Jefre Cantu-Ledesma are lucky enough to have a job that involves making experimental music for avant-garde museums.

Well, that's my theory anyway, if you check his bandcamp you'll see it's full of commisioned work.
>>
>>63443737
you are not very smart
>>
>>63443857
why not?
What if justin biber woke up tomorrow and made a youtube video and said "okay people are always whining about how music sucks, well i will make you a custom song of your choice for 500 dollars"
Then i gave him 500 bucks to make a vaporwave song.
If the common man can pay a musician for a custom song then the musician makes money and the man gets his music
>>
>>63443737
You saved my reaction picture from a previous thread and I'm sad and annoyed that you're using it to back up your absolutely terrible opinion

>>

I think that the only thing stopping people from doing this is that people just don't want to pay that much money for a single song, the common man already has plenty of music available for him and he doesn't need to pay hundreds of dollars just to have a song tailor made for him. Having a song tailor made for him can even be boring, people want to be surprised by art.

Our concept of art and artistry also probably prevents this from happening, art often isn't considered authentic if it's only made because someone paid the artist to do it. Commissions mostly happen in places where music is considered business or a part of business and people don't generally consider this as artistic as music made for other purposes.

am i the only sane person here?
>>
>>63443059
i agreed with you til you said music should be free. Does that apply to all forms of art?
>>
>>63444032

yes, and I love them very much
>>
>>63444169
Are your parents rich? How do you imagine they will spend their days after they retire?
>>
>>63443343
Because it's not logical asking for money for basically a recording, a copy.

Performances should be paid though.
>>
>>63444199
>not logical
>>
>>63444192

yeah they're rich. they don't even have to work anymore. I'm set for life too. I mean we don't have Trump or Shkreli money but we still have a ton. millions. I generally don't like to talk about it because everyone hates rich people.
>>
>>63444199

>Because it's not logical asking for money for basically a recording, a copy.

Why not? Its worth is defined by who makes it/sells it, not you.
>>
>>63444199
How is not logical? Most stuff we buy are copies of something.
>>
>>63444225
I'm just surprised how OK you are with not multiplying your family's fortune. Oh well. Different people have different motivation statuses. At least you are not feeding off from the government's money.
>>
>>63444248
Yeah and that's what I don't understand. A download should not cost money. Not talking about CDs/Vinyls
>>
>>63444225
>everyone hates rich people

I don't hate you I love you gib moni pls
>>
>>63444295
so in your logic you just have to find one idiot who pays for studio/mastering/musicians and so on (should be around 350000 for a Bieber album for example) and then the download should be free.

do you go to school?
>>
>>63444295
Well, we live in a society where the guy selling can give the thing he is selling whatever price he wants, whether this is right or wrong doesn't really have anything to do with it. Even digitally distributed music has to be recorded and produced and so on, and that costs money. Running a server costs some money too. Making music isn't free, because if not anything else time will always be money. This is why software costs money (sometimes even really much) even though there's very little actually physical things that the software company has to pay for to make and distribute software.

I'd also say that when paying for music people don't really pay for the disc or the file the music comes on but the ability to listen to the music when they want to.
>>
>>63442954
Literally everyone pirates lmao

Music purchasing contributes fuck all to profits, it only hurts record labels.
See the band live or buy a tshirt if you want to support them
>>
>>63444499
Facts and figures to back up your argument?
