How autistic am I for listening to and actually enjoying Gene Autry?
I love western music and especially Autry is so mellow and cozy.

what do you think of old boots new dirt

Gene Autry is the shit! His westerns and his music. Good taste anon

>""""""country"""""" singer debuting in 2005
Not going to lie, but a fairly reliable litmus test for country is if the singer's career began after 1990, they're most likely shit.
Never heard it, though.

Johnny Cash encapsulates the marvel and greatness of Autry in this song:

There's no modern equivalent to Autry in society or media. Real sad.
>>63387795
Exactly! it's good to know people still appreciate good music here
You're either 80 years old or you're congenitally retarded.
>>63387945
I'm worried that I'm congenitally retarded. But Gene Autry is so good.
>>63387732
GOAT coming through.

Fuck Gene Autry.
>>63387795
have you heard Nick 13? Probabally the most western of the newer country artists I've heard:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HtYGegYvGZg
For older western artists Tex Ritter is one of my favorites
>>63389644
a challenger emerges...
>>63389644
Bob Wills, like Ernest Tubb and his other contemporaries, was pushed off the charts in the 50s as the new young generation of outlaw countrymen like Johnny Cash rose up. He maintained that rock-and-roll was nothing original at all and his band had been doing that for decades. Jimi Hendrix cited Wills and the Texas Playboys as an influence, recalling that he used to watch them on the Grand Ol' Opry as a kid.
>>63389644
Bob Wills is a Texan God.
At the same time, though, he's Western Swing and has nothing to do with country or western music.
He's just the King.
>>63389645
This actually isn't bad at all, I can dig it. Needs more steel guitar and fiddle. Seriously, those are necessary. It's slightly too hipster otherwise.
The content is 110% Western music, but it craps on itself with the instrumentation. Too modern of the melody, just old enough on the vocals. I like it but it's Texan-fedora core with no instruments and barely any vocals. Not even western swing, pls go.

Cooley a shit, Wills is and will ever be God of Western Swing.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R88k3h6AzAc
srsly, fuck you if you think Cooley was even comparable.
Which outfit had Tommy Duncan? Which wasn't shit?
My grandfather used to have a bunch of Ernest Tubb 78s or something. The sound quality on those things was ass.
>>63389716
yeah, I was being kinda provacitive there, I agree that Bob Wills is the king whether you're in Texas or not.
But Spade is still well worth a listen, and it's crazy how forgotten he is today considering his popularity at the time and the scandal when he killed his wife
>>63389720
I have a few Ernest Tubb 78s and they sound amazing.
>>63389677
Too bad that guy was a psycho who ended up ruining his career and his life.
>>63389761
Spade is definitely okay, so long as you defer the title of King ot Bob Wills.
>we all know what happens once you cross that ol' Red River, hoss, Bob Wills is still the king

>>63389772
That's because the Texas Troubadour is always amazing.
>>63389716
And wtf? I said Nick 13 was western, not western swing.
And how you gonna bitch at Witchy for posting western swing and me for not posting western swing in the same post?
w/e, enjoy your thread of wikipedia pasta
>>63389720
The quality of pre-50s recorded music is usually pretty bad which makes it hard for modern audiences to appreciate.

>And wtf? I said Nick 13 was western, not western swing.
As I listen to Jerry Jeff Walker, I stand by what I wrote.
There isn't enough fiddle or steel guitar.
I didn't not enjoy it that much.
However, it's not quite up to my standards.
Great western songs include basically pistol duels, trains, horses, the prairie, and trains.
Michael Martin Murphey is the last decent western recorder thus far.

Nahhh, nigga, Tex Ritter is based:

Also, Hank Sr..
>>63389849
Mind, I am fully of the opinion that the definition of country music has been stretched way too far and that's why it's shit nowadays but you seem guilty of the opposite extreme - keeping the definition of a genre too rigid.
If the genre is too narrow of course it's going to be moribund especially one as old as western.
