Their s/t is a pretty big part of what they're all about, but at the same time another huge part about them is in their live performances. If you want full perspective on them then listen to some of their live stuff.
But yeah basically a lot of their output sounds like the s/t does, and it's probably their best release honestly (though the second album is good too, as well as Alan Vega's earliest solo releases), so if you couldn't get into that then you might not like them a ton. Basically though the thing I love so much is the pulsating rhythms and how the music can almost become meditative in places, all the while there's such an antagonistic tone to everything they do. The raw aggression being in such a unique field that they have is their biggest strength.

I had heard of Suicide since long ago (honestly I think it's because I googled the term "suicide" on youtube at some point when I was like in middle school and that's when I first saw their live performance of Ghost Rider), maybe this is just something that you have to let yourself grow into liking rather than immediately being able to enjoy it.
Just do what I do I guess, go into it with a blank mind and let it make itself at home in your head on its own, rather than you intentionally forcing yourself to appropriate interest for it.

It took me a while to appreciate Cale so I can understand where you're coming from. What I like about Fear is the darker tones he took with this album, a lot of the lyrics are witty but touching, often in the same songs and overall it's just an album that sounds good to me.
Tracks 1, 3, 5 and 7 are my favourites. If you can only get into that track, try Vintage Violence first, the songs have more of a thread running through them and I'd generally argue it's more accessible as an album
