I'd get one with 15 strings, afaik you can only play one note per string? So more strings means more variety. Haven't played one since I was a kid though.

If you're buying your first kantele I recommend the 10 string. Small students usually start either with a 5 or 10 string kantele. I guess the strength of buying a simpler Kantele is that it's less complicated to play and so, easier to learn. The drawback is off course that you wont be able to play more complicated tunes.
