See, the ironic thing about Fortunate Son is that it was released at the end of 1969, which by then most ground operations in Vietnam had already ended and American troops were being withdrawn. It's notorious for its inclusion in Forrest Gump, but that part of the film was most certainly set around 1967-68 - thus creating an anachronism
