>I get that this is supposed to be a deconstruction of rock, blues, and jazz, but at the end of the day you have to examine this record purely for what it sounds like. And if I'm being completely honest with myself, I don't enjoy it. I really don't. I get the novelty and I get where it's coming from. It's cool to appreciate it for what it has achieved. But I genuinely think that the people who claim to enjoy this record are either pretending to for hipster cred, or have listened to it a significant amount of times to the point where they've become brainwashed.

I shut the actual video off when he started using "meme" as a critique, synonymous with the typical underaged /mu/ hipster and when he expressed that his take on the lyricism was just "random" and "laughable". Which is entirely subjective but of course he believes this is how all listeners take it. Yes the lyricism is random and can be humourous but that's the point, it's lyrical expressionism, take it how you will.

I know it might not be negative but I think his take on the album is very close minded and the way he approaches is thoughts come off as they are objective, like that "the brain favours certain patterns in music" which was really dumb to me, or when he just blatandly goes out to insult it with buzzwords like "goofy", " obnoxious" and "childish". I just think it's a very poor review that lacks objectivity and opinions made in bad taste and based on ones subjective experience with the album.
Now now, it isn't like any of you understood it after one listen either.

I think for most people it's not really a matter of use, but of entertainment. No reviewers are really useful unless they create a massive encyclopedia of their reviews like Scaruffi, or write some kind of book. People like to watch this guy so they can disagree with him, or feel validated when they agree with him. He's a good reviewer because he's entertaining, not because he has particularly poignant insights about music.

I've tried to listen to it a few times and I honestly don't see the appeal. At all.
I've been listening to rock pretty extensively for the past 7 years and finally decided to tackle TMR. I've listened to it 5 times and the first thing I did after my first listen was write this. It is a direct influence from "China Pig." I typed the lyrics it in a stream-of-conscious manner and played the guitar part when i was black out drunk last night,

I don't get this "understand" concept you kids have on music. There's nothing to "understand" about the record. It's a matter of weather you can get into it or not, and not everybody can but that's fine. My problem is that Anthony approaches his shitty opinions very objectively which is really dumb and I don't like the way he insults and dismisses it, basically telling his followers that they can't get into it, because he couldn't.
It's all a matter of weather you want to get out of your comfort zone. Some people are happy listening to music that they are familiar with and that's great. Then others just seek to test their ability to comprehend and enjoy unfamiliar sounds. A problem is that some people will take it as novelty and that's probably /mu/s fault.

I'm not sure how a much a few is, but it took me about 6 or 7 listens before I "got it," and I've heard that number echoed elsewhere as well. Don't be afraid to listen to it in chunks, too, it is a double album after all. If you try doing all that and still don't like it, then fuck it
I will say what I like about this album is that he essentially pinpointed the "essence" of music, the only thing that really defines good/bad music, if you will, and then took everything else around it, all the superficial sounds that define music to pleb listeners, and just did whatever he wanted with it. Fantano doesn't like it cause he doesn't really like music. He even complains that you have to actually listen to it while listening to it, like that's a bad thing.
